Enough with the pro-ACC posts, DFW. Nobody wants to hear them. Plus, we don't need Duke, Duke needs us, blah blah blah.
Right, _way?

I like this move. Playing Duke gives you instant non-conference schedule credibility with ESPN, which affects both poll rankings and the selection committee. I think its crap that Duke is so beloved etc etc, but if that's the way it is lets play them, beat the crap out of them, and dance.

LOL! I hope Duke is national enough for the_way! This is yet another fantastic move on the scheduling front... As I've stated before, it's obvious and compelling that III has really, REALLY upgraded the OOC and is making his indelible mark on the program.....

This is a HUGE add. Duke is #1 is the county next year, so we will prolly be playing for 2 years in a row the #1 team in the land. If we can knock them off, then look out rankings and RPI. I think we matchup pretty well again them pg- dockery-cook sg- nelson-owens sf- redick-bowman pf- mcroberts-green c- williams- hibbert
The matchup that will be great to see is Green vs. Williams. And we do have win the matchup in height at every postion except pf- but green makes up for that. Also, if you all remember 2 years ago, Bowman did shut down JJ so will see what takes place. If BB can play better D this could turn out to be a great win for GTOWN.

I know 99.9% of this board is jumping head over heals and doing cartwheels when they heard about the matchup. I know some on this message board will be sleeping outside MCI overnight waiting to get tickets for this game to root for Duke, ehem, I mean G'town.
The only positives I see is that Duke is the nation's and this message board's most beloved program. Therefore, this game will be nationally televised, and we will get a chance to show the world and some on this message board that Georgetown is better than Duke, and the Big East is better than the ACC. This is an opportunity to shake up the world, ALI-Liston style (first fight). I hope we spank those pansies. We ARE Georgetown.

Looks like our mirrors are South Florida, St. Johns and West Virginia.

UNBELIEVABLE! ;D
Yep, we finally got that marquee non-conference home opponent we were talking about. I can't wait to get payback for that game at MCI two years ago that I consider the nadir of Georgetown men's basketball of the last 30 years. This is a chance to show how far we've come since then. I can't wait to see the game 100% official on our schedule.

The only positive from this mirrors is that there is no positives to glean from this. I would say that being able to see the Hoyas at MSG would be nice but 0 - 5 against the Johnnies in games I have attended at MSG. After the non-conference games are over someone wake me up before the Big East tournament stars.

I don't know about anyone else, but the only reason I want to play a Duke or a Maryland or a Kentucky or an Arizona or ANY big program is for the reason you mentioned (beat people on national TV, shows the public/media/recruits we're BAAAAACK) and for the boost it should give to our RPI as opposed to playing, say, Howard or Costal Carolina in that slot. That's all any of us have wanted along (at least that's all I THINK anyone has wanted... its at least what I want). And yet you'd rather play Navy?

I myself really wanted to see us play Louisville this year, but I guess that didnt come true. But we do host Syracuse Pitt and Cinci and WVU so if we can knock them off it will look good and then we travel to UCONN the hardest game out there for us I think in the Big East. That will be the game to watch. Hardest games this year- @uconn, @illi, DUKE, and @ore- I think those are some great games to boost our RPI.

I just said this was a good game. What are you talking about. I rather play Navy AND Duke or Kentucky or Arizona, etc.. Just no Maryland or GW. You need a mix of patsys and solid teams to play for OOC. You don't need Maryland or GW. It doesn't do us any good. You got to think big Buff. We are trying to win a National Championship. Not a local championship.

Not a local championship. Actually _way, you don't get it. I think sentiment around here - at least mine has been - has been to play Maryland or GW as the solid teams for the OOC. Whether or not they are the only ones makes no difference to me. Now that our OOC looks bad ass without them, I dont' care if we play them or not. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what everyone else is saying about playing GW or UMCP, but I've only wanted to play them if it were a boost to the OOC. With your beloved Duke, Oregon, Oklahoma and others on the schedule, I agree... we don't need them. But I'd still rather play UMCP than Navy. Get as good an OOC as possible. Keep the patsys to a minimum.

Buff, you need patsys. Everybody plays patsys. You need a couple especially during finals, etc. Navy is a good patsy because of it being a National Institution. A good OOC schedule has a mix of strong teams with a few patsys. You don't want to go overboard. Your In-conference success in the Big East depends on whether you really are tournament bound or not.

I think we actually agree, we're just arguing from different points on the timeline. I want patsies as they play an important role, my point was just that we should try and play some legit teams as well. Maryland and GW are more legit than a bunch of no-names like (with all due respect) Navy and Howard. But that's pre-the current OOC. Now that we've got who we've got, I'm with you... screw UMCP. We're CURRENTLY better off.
