I have a feeling the season is about to get exciting. I think (what's left of) this team will surprise people.

What makes you think it's going to turn around? Allen and Alexander stepping up? Pickett playing much more aggressive? Less of forcing it to Yurt despite losing to huge weapons? I need something to make me feel better about this. Please, give me the guide to optimism.

I am not optimistic but I am curious to see how we adjust. We were certainly not a great team with Leblanc and Akinjo playing though I enjoyed watching those two guys play immensely. This certainly gives Ewing an opportunity to display what he can do as a coach. There is still plenty of talent left but they will still need to have the sum be greater than the parts.
I think we will get a good idea of how his players feel about him based on how they respond these next couple of games.

I have told others that I thought the only way to turn this around was for Allen to start at PG. Akinjo seemed to have iced out Mac and became very selfish this year. The defense should also improve a bit. In no way is losing a James a good thing but the team should be less selfish now. The problem is Mac has shown to be incredibly selfish as well and now he will presumably have a green light which hasn’t really shown to be a good thing.
I can’t think of any positive for Josh leaving. He was that good and exactly what this team needed. I don’t think this year year will be a complete mess. I think we likely win some games we shouldn’t and look awful in others.
The big problem is the long term. We have no reasonable PG replacement coming next year as of right now. That could definitely change. Replacing Josh will be be tough next year unless we go the grad transfer route. He was so advanced for a player of his age.

Replacing Josh will be hard. Replacing James a lot easier.

Lmao. The hottest take out there. I appreciate the positivity, I really do. But no way is this team better without akinjo and Leblanc than with them on it.

You are crazy. Things will not get more exciting with the program this year. You lose two of your better players and you believe things will get exciting. That’s not a logical take especially with Ewing as the HC who has proven nothing so far in his tenure to be able to overcome this mess. Btw, I am not blaming Ewing for this.

If the other parties implicated in this debacle are suspended/dismissed as well, you're left with the following roster
Mac, Yurtseven, Mosely, Pickett, Allen, Blair, Wahab, Wilson, and Tim. Not counting walk-ons.
That means you're looking at a starting lineup of
Allen, Mac, Pickett, Mosely and Yurt
backed up by Blair and three centers.
There is nothing on this roster that will be able to compete with anyone. Our starters will likely have to play 35+ a game. It's going to be atrocious.

In that group I would start Blair for Allen, and I would use Wilson some at F. I think Chuma will also get PT. This game at OK State is gonna be "interesting".

Interesting to say the least. No idea how rotations will work, how the players will come out or anything. Fatigue, who starts, who ends up playing, everything. Hard to be optimistic, but definitely curious and intrigued.

There are plenty of top 25 teams out there that only play 7 or 8 guys meaningful minutes. Josh was more or less a non factor so far this season, he appeared to of already checked out mentally. Galen and Myron had a few bright moments here and there but were essentially non factors as well. If they are in fact gone as some presume, it hurts more so for the following seasons than for the present, as neither guy looked ready to be a steady contributor. James is of course the guy that was by far contributing the most this season. That said, switching from a shoot first PG who's more interested in one on one battles with opposing PG's to a pass first PG who's a significantly better defender might not be such a bad thing. Akinjo was the best player on the team along with Govan last year and Yurt this year, because that was the role he was given. He lead the team in minutes played both last year and this year... unlike players such as Josh, Mac, Pickett, he was always allowed to play through his mistakes and almost never sat on the bench for more than a few minutes no matter how poorly he was playing. James was IMO not nearly as good as a lot of people gave him credit for. He simply played the most and as the PG had the ability to call his own number whenever he liked.
Do I think we will be better? No. But I don't see us being much worse, maybe about the same as we would've been had these guys stayed. Sure if none of this ever happened and Josh had been starting all season, and James wasn't such a selfish kid with a bad attitude, the team would've had a chance to be top 3 in the Big East. But with how they looked in pretty much every game but the Texas one, it was clear something was off. The team has had 0 chemistry all year. This should at least improve their chemistry and bring the kids who are still around together. It's also a big opportunity for a lot of guys. Allen is now the starting PG. Mac should get several more touches and shots per game and also some backup PG minutes. Blair will finally get consistent minutes off the bench. Those are the three that will get the most opportunity from this, but everyone else should see at least a slight uptick in playing time and shot attempts.
Injuries will be the biggest concern, as the team can no longer afford to really have any. Assuming they stay healthy though, they can certainly be just as mediocre as they would've been had everyone stuck around. Personally I'll be glad to see Akinjo and his fake tough guy, thug routine take a hike. I'll miss what Josh brought last year, but he hadn't been the same Josh this year, so it's moot I guess.

Alright, I slept on it and it looks like there's a possibility we could lose a couple more guys...
That said, still optimistic!
The situation was clearly toxic before. It's time for Yurt, Mac, and Pickett to show what they can do. The pressure is off. No more high expectations. You are playing with house money now, guys. Let's surprise some people!
Looking forward to the game tomorrow!

I do not believe you are crazy and also believe the team will come together and surprise. They will quickly become warriors! They may lose some games. So what. They will rise and hopefully become men. I would take personal development over a win any day, life is short.
