Very disappointing loss. Back from Irish Channel after swilling Jamesons since 230. Onto SHU. Drink Red Breast..you’ll feel better

Painful on so many levels. No leadership from Jessie again. Akinjo could be hitting the wall. We’ve asked a whole lot from him as a frosh. But he’s got to be better offensively. If you had told me that Mac and Pickett would have played that well, I would have predicted a 20-pt win. That is at least the second home loss to a team who is considerably inferior. We have no biz losing to Creighton or Butler at home. And Pat has to open up a can on the officials. We play 5-on-8 in every home game. Ewing came out of the locker room early before the second half and worked over the officials for a couple of minutes while the team was was warming up. He tried. This is true. He was pretty calm doing so. One of these day’s an in-game T might help if it keeps up.

Big John flat out intimidated the refs. This sounds terrible, but I truly believe they need to be a little afraid of Pat. He’s doing us no good as a docile newbie coach.

Just got home from the game. I said before the game that this was going to be the game where Govan had to step up if he ever wanted to play in an NCAA tourney game. Well kiss that goodbye Jesse.

Didn't deserve the win today. Need to step it up next game. The team played poorly and really blew their best chance to make the tourney. Can't believe it's been that close to being 4 seasons. Next one is must win, 2 of the next 3 need to be won.

Agreed, Jessie was dreadful today. Soft and completely wanting as a leader. But we need him going forward. He simply must turn it around for us to max out our potential.

Although today's loss was disappointing, there were a couple of positive notes:
-we buckled down and played real good defense for the final 10 minutes or so of the game. We ave them way too many pen threes up until that point, but got back in the game when the bench group locked down on D
-Pickett played his best offensive game of the season, and he has been playing better offensively recently. If he can provide this kind of offense on a consistent basis, we can compete with any team in our conferene
Now we just need Govan to shake his slump. Tough to win getting as little offense as we have been getting fro Jessie the past three games.

Problem is that Jesse NEEDS to score 20-25 points with double digit rebounds to overcome his defensive deficiencies. I am by no means enough of a hoop expert to know whether Jessie’s D problems are a matter of effort or physical limitations. I love the kid and hope he makes a good living next level, but damn I’d like to see some fire...... Had that same thought. I don't know what it is, Jesse is a kind of finesse player. Certainly not a garbage man type of player.

Frustrating loss today. It's not fun, but to be expected I guess with a young team. On to Seton Hall.

Had our chances didn’t capitalize. Josh goes up for a one handed dunk instead of going up with two and making the defender reach through him, Jessie misses a wide open Josh, Jessie shoots a jumper instead of taking his man to the block where he has just had gotten fouled, Mac misses a layup. Hopefully one day soon we start taking advantage of these opportunities more

One enormous positive today was attendance. Far bigger than I expected. It shows there’s a big appetite for this program if they can deliver an exciting, relevant team. Big chance lost today but all is not lost. I still like this group - particularly the second unit today, which made it a ballgame when it really had no right to be one.
EDIT - one more thought: the security line logjam really hurts the team at the start of these games. The place was mostly empty at tip-off. Very annoying. We got to arena a half hour before the game and still weren’t in our seats until 2 minutes in.

I was impressed with the grit Mac played with after the 2nd half injury(reinjury). To be hurting and still beat 2 guys for a layup that would've tied it shows the kind of athlete he is. A freshman at maybe 70% of his ability still getting to the rim. Those shots will start falling. Hope it's this year, but fun times ahead when his game fully starts clicking!

Been away all day today. Caught the results of the Hoya track and field, and there were some outstanding efforts, both present students and grads. So I was hoping the good vibes would carry over to bball. Sigh! When our two best players (up for bid) go 2-14, hard to win the game. I am disappointed that they do not play well at home against teams they should beat. Aaaarrrggghhh!

Breezed through the line in ten minutes, got there at 11:40 and in seats before the national anthem.

I think the next step for this team is to win games you’re supposed to win. They were supposed to win yesterday, but didn’t. That’s the next hurdle to clear as a team and program. Wish it happened yesterday, but I’m confident it’s going to come. I hate playing Butler bc they basically gum things up and make it ugly. Similar to Providence. We had more talent than them but a few key plays were not made when they needed to be. Couple that with an egregious shooting performance and you usually lose. Still proud of the effort and heart shown by this group to stay in it and have a chance at the end.

We beat X and Providence fairly handly, but couldn’t quite close the deal with Butler.

I think folks are starting to appreciate the new and improved Hoyas and I wouldn't be surprised to see some !5,000+ BE attendance next year, especially against Nova and Marquette. I assumed the long lines were because Obama was attending the game. Surprised to see it was Pence. I could say something about Trump and how important it might be to protect Pence but I don't need a visit from the Secret Service.

The lines are like this every home game that has more than 10k in attendance. The level of security I experienced was the same as any other game. The main issue is that at the F street entrance they only open half of the metal detectors. At first I thought it was a staffing issue, but 10 minutes before tip off they opened one more door. Seems like poor planning to me. Also it doesn’t help that people bring in bags that need to be searched backing up the whole process.

Well, according to the jwp91 model, we were much better than 54-55% to win this game and should have been ranked above Butler. Guess not. This is one of the advantages of these models some don’t like. They aren’t perfect, but they aren’t swayed by emotions and feelings either, and are at least based on some basic level of objective stats. All that said, it’s only one game. I hope we turn it around and win as an underdog on Wednesday. For someone who claims to understand the math, you certainly don’t seem to understand it very well. You are suggesting that I thought in the range of possible outcomes that Butler couldn’t win. I would like to invite you to have sex with yourself. One game does not prove KenPom right or wrong.

You’re taking my post too literally, and without the intended sarcasm. Of course I know that, considering that I’ve written it in this very thread. And explained that exact point multiple times. You’re right. It was one game which is essentially meaningless on its own to the bigger point, either way. I realize my post came across as petty, and I apologize for that (probably shouldn’t have made it), but I just found it humorous how insistent you were about it, only to have your prediction be way off. But again, I probably shouldn’t have even posted. And I seriously hope you’re right that we are better than the models say. I really think this team has 9-9 potential and I would like to see that happen. The Butler result just makes it harder. As for your insult, keep it classy.
