We lost, but team is looking more cohesive just not nailing shots and still making bad passes/turnovers. Glad to see Pickett playing with more balance. Don't know what happened to Malinowski in the past few games.....the best is yet to come for our Hoyas!!

Final Thoughts: The Good McClung 21 pts, Pickett 18pts
The Bad Hoyas bench 9pts vs Butler 22 bench pts Providence 43% FG, 38% 3pt Georgetown 37% FG, 27% 3pt
The Ugly Starters Akinjo, Leblanc and Govan 5/20 FG's, 21pts combined Hoyas lead the game for a whole 2:23 (all in the 1st half)
Final Grade: D
St. Johns lost to Providence today and Georgetown could not capitalize by winning and taking sole possession of 3rd place in the BE and a firm spot on the bubble. Too many times the team had the chance to tie the game or take the lead and ended up missing the shot or turning the ball over. While Butler would make a crucial bucket to extend the lead. Up next, Seton Hall
Final Note: Ewing falls to 3-5 this season in games decided by 5pts or less and OT and 6-12 overall

Was this game even televised? There was no network signage at the arena. Yes on the Fox Sports Regional Networks Like Fox Sports Florida

Was this game even televised? There was no network signage at the arena. It was on FSN (not FS1) in Boston, not part of regular DirecTV

Our center was not very effective...not sure what the statistics tell. Weird game for our team. Some stepped up, some stepped down. Agreed. God forbid Govan and Pickett play well in the same game. Mac and James haven’t clicked offensively at the same time, but I think they need to work through that. hm The two plays that get me are the drive by Baldwin where Jessie backed off and is out of bounds. The shot went up and Fowler got the offensive board, putback and one and Jessie is still standing out of bounds. I mean, pursue the play. It's the opposite of LeBlanc. The second was his choice to take the jumper one-on-one at the end. We got exactly what we wanted and instead of going at Fowler and drawing a foul or getting the bucket he just settled for his security blanket jumper. I know he is out of time to become an aggressive player, but I just wish he was.

I almost feel like our front court are intimidated by each other’s game. Neither one can have a good game if the other is playing well. I’m also at a loss as to what is going on with our post play. Dear god......such terrible performances all year.

It seems like we've said it before..but this loss is a killer. I was having dreams of an NCAA invite, whether foolish or not. Those final couple minutes were just disastrous...turnovers on passes to Leblanc. Jagen throwing it out of bounds...what he is really good at, again...can't remember. ...James just seemingly incapable of making hoops in Big East play the past several games (with occasional exceptions)..Jesse disappearing and Mac can't get a call when driving the lane and getting hammered.
Finally...I love Pat..but our clock management in the final 20 plus seconds was abysmal.
Oh well..Kaleb and Pickett played great and Mac, for the most part, but less so after the ankle sprain.
Maybe the rest of the BE fans feel like we do..so close , yet so far.

Significant loss today. With SJ losing to Prov, our game had bubble implications and we couldn't convert. Would have been big going into Seton Hall 6 and 5 with momentum. Very frustrating! Season not over, but we must clean up sloppy turnovers, have better communication, and more from Jessie! Will be at Seton Hall game and hope to get back to 500.

I don’t know what to say. It’s becoming harder and harder to follow. Just can never break through. Sloppy. Upper classmen playing with less intensity than I have sitting on the couch.

Tough loss. But let's take this with a little bit of perspective.
Hoyas played a poor first half, and struggled early on in the second, but never let the game get away from them. In other seasons, when Butler started pushing the lead out, Hoyas would have crumbled. Today, they did not.
Ewing pulled all the right strings today. At a pivotal moment in the second half with Hoyas trailing by 12, he put in a line-up of Mourning-Johnson-Pickett-Blair-Moseley. That line-up didn't simply give a quick rest to the starters--it went on a 7-0 run and gave the now refreshed starters a winnable game with 6 minutes to go. And, while the starters were unable to finish, we were in a position with 50 seconds to go to take the lead or tie. Ewing drew up a really good play, Mac got to the rim (and appeared to take a lot of contact to the body) but the shot didn't fall.
Hoyas actually played quite well on D in the second half. Tucker had 14 in the first half, and 1 in the second. After Butler hit those two big 3's to start the second half, they rarely got an open look (2-9 the rest of the way). If not for Kamar Balwin making a handful of circus shots down the stretch, there is likely a different outcome.
We outrebounded Butler 42-33, and had a ton of second chance points. Even LeBlanc, who generally had an off day, found a few in the second half. Even when things aren't pretty, this team uses grit to hang around.
Akinjo is struggling from the field over the last few games, but this should not be cause for panic. Not long ago Mac was the one who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, and he fixed it. When Mac and Akinjo both decide to go off in the same game--WATCH OUT.
Hoyas missed a big opportunity today, no doubt. This Hoyas team has shown a "2 steps forward 1 step back" kind of progress. Keep making the net gains, though, and things are going to start looking way up.

His overall shooting % is not good, but prior to being 0-6 from three over the last two games, he was 20 of 49 from 3 in BE play for a more than respectable 40.8% clip. He still needs to figure out how to score in the lane, but at a minimum, the three point accuracy will come back (as it did with Mac).

Random thoughts: Josh baseline dunk (blocked by Tucker), Trey's 2 missed FTs, Mac missed layups all big opps wasted while the game was tight. There were certainly others... Really needed to get it tied down the stretch.
Sub lineup played well to get us back into it in the 2nd half - Jagan, Jahvon, Kaleb, Trey, Greg. Was thinking at the time Pat left them in 1 TO too long but they def held their own.
I don't know if this team has a "best" player, but Josh continues to do his thing better and more consistently than anyone else in our lineup.

Pat did leave them in one TO too long. Georgetown only had 2 TOs left and he needed to get a stop of possession to get them back in. Stop of possession didn't come until approx. 6:30 when Jagan threw it out of bounds, which in reality was probably fortunate, because a missed shot could have resulted in the starters not getting in until closer to the 4 minute TO!

Did anyone notice if there were any recruiting targets attending the game?

Frankly, I just wish all our remaining games were on the road. We play better there. True. Crowd was big today but dead. Students really add very little at the moment. Even when they show up. I was there. It got really loud for a couple of moments in the second half but the team could never make the big play to keep the energy going.

The worst part about attending the game today was having to watch our smug Vice President and his country club friends loudly celebrate the Butler victory in one of the luxury suites.
