Had Marcus returned he would have likely been 1st team all BIg East and continued to assert himself inside and out. It’s not a stretch to think that Marcus would have a shot at the nba. His outside shot alone is a skill set that would put him into consideration to play at the next level.
The sad truth is that if you don’t leave after your junior year, it’s almost considered as a ding against you that you had to stay and play a fourth year.

I hope it works out for Marcus. I also hope he availed himself of foreign language courses at GU. If he plays in Australia, NZ or even Israel, he can get by with English!

I hope it works out for Marcus, but I suspect his representation is being optimistic there.

I'm more optimistic of Derrickson's chances of playing in the NBA. It probably won't be right away but he is an elite shooter at his size and physical makeup. A stretch 4 is what every NBA team is looking for. 3 Point shooting has become the most desired skillset in the NBA.
Not saying Derrickson's a horrible defender but A lot of players who can't defend a lick are in the NBA because they can shoot the heck out of the ball. Derrickson can also rebound the ball at nice clip. That's 2 skill sets needed to excel in the association. Do I think another year under Coach Ewing's tutelage could have locked in a draft spot for Derrickson, absolutely! Especially if the team wins and return to the NCAA tournament in what looks to be a weak 2019 draft class. But to say Derrickson will never play in the NBA is a bridge to far considering how much his position and skillset are highly desired in the Association.

If Marcus could have replicated his 46% from 3 next year, I don’t think we would be discussing then if Marcus was going to be drafted, but how high. Besides, he would have had another year to tighten his defense and rebounding, making him a more attractive player.

FWIW, I had a conversation with someone on Marcus' representation team. They say he has lost more than 20 lbs from his playing weight and has gained some agility and vertical explosion. They think he will get a "two way" G League contract and not go to Europe. This allows the NBA team to pay the player more than the G league scale and normally players under this two way contract are more likely than the average G leaguer to get called up..although someone with better knowledge of that..feel free to correct me! Ahhh! The Austin Freeman Regime: wait until the last minute to get into NBA combine shape! Remember how Austin got his body ripped from late March to early May of his senior year? Look where that got him. Pat needs a change of culture and he’s working on it. Get gym rats like Mac, James and Josh (and IIRC Pickett?).

Derrickson was in fantastic shape, don't think he can improve it much to make him a better, quicker, more athletic player. If he lost pounds it is most likely muscle he is losing, a trend that has been going on in the NBA for a few years. In fact Derrickson didn't wait until his last days in college before he got in shape like some other Hoyas. He changed his body around in between his senior season in high school and the beginning of his first year at GU. Lost a lot of his fat during that time period.

Actually I recall that he trained for and ran a half marathon before enrolling at Georgetown. Some might have confused his relative lack of quickness for being out of shape. I wish nothing but the best for this kid. Three years of losing ball, turmoil and a coaching change. He still stayed with the team when others transferred and he played his heart out.

Exactly. Derrickson has clearly always put in effort.
It has never made sense to me that some people rip on players who get into better shape when they leave college and are focusing on basketball professionally. It makes sense that when basketball is your 100% focus that you might make strides in ways you never did while in college. I’m not sure why it is surprising to anybody that this happens.

Marcus looks much thinner in that video. Spoke with his representation again this weekend. Indicated he is now down 25 pounds from college, which seems a bit excessive to me, but what do I know. I felt he was unique because of his ability to shoot NBA threes while also being big enough to be effective in the post. If he's that skinny, hes just an unathletic SF with a good shot. Anyway, he said he's worked out with two NBA teams already and seems very confident Marcus will get the "two way" G League deal, rather than going to Europe. The two way deal could earn him over 300k if he is called up to the NBA for at least a few weeks. We'll see..hope for the best!

The NBA G League will increase base salaries next season for players under contract, the league announced Tuesday.
Players will now earn a base salary of $7,000 per month, or $35,000 for the five-month regular season. The previous salaries were $26,000 or $19,000.
Also added to the salary increase are housing and insurance benefits.
Players can earn additional income through affiliate player bonuses and being called up to NBA teams.
This past season, 50 G League players were called up to the NBA, earning more than $11 million. Two-way contracts will also continue, with two-way players will earning $77,250. Salaries are prorated for days spent on an NBA G League roster.
The league said that 83 players across all 30 NBA teams signed two-way contracts.
The Washington Wizards will introduce its G-League team, the Capital City Go-Go, next season.
Three teams, the Denver Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans and Portland Trailblazers, are the only NBA teams without a G League affiliate.

So with the new rules that players can come back to school after declaring/going pro and having the school foot the bill, is it possible in the future we can have guys playing in the G League WHILE continuing their education simultaneously if the G League team they join resides in the same area they went to school? In other words could a Derrickson or Govan attend Georgetown classes in between playing games for Capital City Go-Go?
And, yes, I realize the players would have to both make a team and be fortunate to have that team be in the same part of the country as their college.
