Well Xavier didn't have any trouble with SJU. Someone was guarding the rim.

Nova and Xavier are so much better than us. Are they paying players?

Thus ends the easiest season of betting on Georgetown ever 😥 I actually had a hard time figuring this team out. When I thought they would cover, they would not or when I thought they would get blown out, they played a close game I found the over/under especially unpredictable to pick. Tonight I took the under of 144 and the +3.5 Once the BE started I just bet against them at home and soon there after just bet on them 1H and against them 2H and it worked out very well.

Defense only: 2014: 91 2015: 33 2016: 81 2017: 58 2018: 124 This was our worst defensive rating in the KenPom era (since 2002) and it's not particularly close. Recruiting probably only marginally fixes the problem--whatever plus Leblanc gives you in the frontcourt/wing, you're still playing the defensively challenged Govan and Derrickson heavy minutes. What's probably needed is either some creative scheme, or a real concerted effort to cut down on the poor communication and mental lapses on D (last night it was Blair's turn to have an "Oh crap! Where did my man go?" moment immediately preceding his man draining a wide open three in a key moment).

Why does everyone think the defense fell from 58 to 124 in 2018? The major differences (aside from the obvious coaching changes) that I see are:
- No Peak - No Pryor - Significantly less fouling - No Hayes or Agau - Govan & Derrickson played approximately 50% more minutes than last year - Kaleb Johnson played a lot more than last season - Add Dickerson, Blair, Walker, Pickett
To me, the major differences are: (1) Peak leaving, especially since he was a pretty good defender, and none of our guards are as good, (2) Govan/Derrickson playing more - not to say Hayes/Agau were great defenders, but they might have been better, and (3) we aren't fouling as much.
You'd think not fouling as much would be a big net plus - last season, we routinely gave opposing teams way more FTs than we took. That generally wasn't true this year. By definition that helps, but did fouling less cause us to give wide-open shots more often? I really don't know.
I do think losing Peak was significant, but that plus Govan/Derrickson playing more minutes isn't enough to go from 58 to 124. What does everyone else think?

I do think losing Peak was significant, but that plus Govan/Derrickson playing more minutes isn't enough to go from 58 to 124. What does everyone else think? I’m not good enough with the X and O’s to provide in depth analysis, but to my eyes: —PE clearly coached the team to be more of a “hands off” D to lower the fouls, meaning the bigs aren’t expected to help rotate over and try to affect/block shots if they are not in good position. He probably did this to keep MD/JG out of foul trouble, and seems to fit the NBA-like model of trying not to get posterized. —Offensively obviously our pace was much faster, and we took and missed a lot of quick shots that lead to run outs headed the other way. —We played Pickett, Blair and Dickerson a lot of minutes. I think all three were pretty bad defensively. Pickett show some flashes, but he is not a quick athlete, and I don’t think he has the motor or physicality to become a plus defender. He can and will improve though with some time weight room. —We were very easy to gameplay for. We played man basically exclusively, and mixed in a press once in a blue moon. With no variation, and not very good on ball defenders, we were very easy to plan and adjust too. Teams shredded us in the second half once they figured that out.
