Fitting to start the postseason with an away game.

it's going to be one and done if this team doesn't give a much better defensive effort than they have the last few games.

As much as I don't want to give SJU any credit, going 5 for 8 down the stretch (w/ Duke, Nova) was an impressive way to wrap up a down year. And two of the losses were toss-up games.
I think a victory here for us would be a pretty nice win.

We know we can beat them at the Garden. As usual - fight on the boards, value the ball. Survive and move on.

We are not going to sweep St. John’s this season, especially with an injured Derrickson. Plus, they are home.

Anybody know if Doc is going to play? During the Nova game the announcers were talking about that being a possibility.

Beating a team three times in a season is continually a challenge in good years. Hoping Hoyas pull it together and go all out against SJU.
I wish there was a definitive on Derrickson, but we will know Wednesday. It was sounding like he was going to be game ready Wednesday, from announcers and snippets (likely repeating announcers) from the internet / Twitter.

After the way we ended the season, it's hard to be optimistic heading into the BET. I think a win over St. John's would be a nice accomplishment in Ewing's first season. I think it'll be tough-- we have best them twice already, and SJU played a little better down the stretch but neither team has played well of late. I will say, if we can get past the Johnnies, I could actually see us giving Xavier a game.
I plan to be there to take in the BET in person. Hope we get a win on Wednesday.

Tough to beat a team 3x? That bodes well for our matchup with Xavier and beyond.

It will never come out, but I bet Derrickson was held back to some extent for the BET. On the flip side, the same could be said for Ponds. I know it's a long shot, but there is way more to play for this week than the meaningless last game of the season.

It was a very NBA-like move to hold out Derrickson in a game we were 19 point underdogs. Even minor injury is enough reason to sit him down. This is going to be a tough battle with SJU. They will be hyped to play at home and no question are playing better than earlier in the season. Would be a solid win if the Hoyas can get it.

It's been a (another) rough year. We could use some luck to go our way this week, just like Syracuse that year...

There's truth to the "tough to beat 3 times" thing, but I think it's less that both teams know each other better (though it's a factor) than the simple fact that when you play the same scenario repeatedly, it's less likely that one team will win all three games, all four games, all five games, etc. All things held equal, it doesn't mean that winning the third game is less likely than the first or second, though.
That said, we are not a bigger underdog in this game according to KenPom (35% versus about 25% last time) than we were in our previous away game at St. John's. So according to this, at least, we have a better chance Wednesday that we did in our first game.

surprising line. Ponds hasnt played in awhile. I assume Marcus is gonna play. I agree with if he was gimpy no sense in playing him versus Villanova.
