Weirdly, DePaul an St. Johns were only 2 times that we looked worse when facing a team the second time around! Otherwise, clear impprovement, especially lately. Except for depth at PG, we don't look all that different from the top teams in the league right now. Well done coaches and team! [/quote Might have been that St. John’s and Depaul were also actually getting better!

A win against a solid team like Butler is a big step in the right direction for this program, especially when they had the opportunity for a major letdown following the win vs. Seton Hall. There was both good and bad, but I'll start with the good.
First off, hats off to Trey Dickerson for what was certainly his best game as a Hoya. I don't think he played nearly as well on Saturday as Lappas gave him credit for, but he was a positive factor tonight on both ends, which I don't think I could've said once this season prior to tonight. Let's just hope this doesn't turn out to be Tre Campbell vs. Xavier 2.0 where he goes back to being invisible for the rest of his career. I've been his biggest critic this year, but tonight was a step in the right direction.
MD was his usual beastly self, and it's starting to become easy to take him for granted even though we shouldn't. Solid at both ends and made some gigantic plays down the stretch not only as a scorer but a facilitator. Him and Jessie made just enough plays down the stretch for us to hold on.
One move I really like from Pat was around the 9 minute mark after the lead had started to dwindle under double digits. He had the guys press for a few possessions which completely took Butler off guard, and it forced a couple of key turnovers. Wonderful in-game adjustment by Pat there.
That being said, there was also bad...
End game execution. It's been a weakness of ours all year long, but my god did we play stupid in the final 2:30. By my count, we took 3 shots with 20 or more seconds on the shot clock up 7-9 points. There was absolutely no reason Butler should have had enough time to make it a one possession game, but we moronically lengthened the game for them. That's partially on Trey for getting too sped up by the press and panicking and also on Pat for not instructing his guys to adjust based on time and situation. Additionally, it's clear we don't realize we can run the baseline after a make (they failed to do so several times not just tonight, but in the past few games). We HAVE to clean up these errors if we are going to win more close games moving forward. I put this things on Pat; he has to do a better job teaching his guys what to do and what not to do in these situations. Lord knows we've been in enough of them this season to warrant it.
Rotation. I haven't had the impression Pat has had a good handle on his minutes distribution (especially at 1 and 2) all conference season, and tonight was no different. Very puzzling to keep Dickerson on the bench while he was running hot and Mulmore couldn't seem to get out of his own way all night. I don't know if it's a fatigue/stamina issue, but Pat's got to do a better job identifying the hot hand between Trey/Mulmore and Mosely/Blair (who were both eh tonight) and riding them when they're on a hot streak.
Officiating. Those guys tonight sucked and we were lucky to come out of there with a win. I don't think they made a single correct block/charge call in the 1st half, and they weren't much better in the 2nd either. The missed basket interference / technical for hanging on the rim was criminal. The egregious hold on Dickerson which caused him to lose the ball at midcourt for a transition basket the other way was bad. And the missed obvious travel on Martin late could've cost us too. Kudos to our guys for playing through all of that, because that's one that easily could've gone against us because of some home cooking.
Hope we can continue to build momentum heading into NYC; if we can steal another game or two before the BET, I think the way we will have trended thus far in February will be extremely beneficial for this program moving forward.

So impressive. They looked confident from the start and controlled basically the whole game. Wow.
Anyone doubting Ewing now?

See how having a point guard run the team? Is all the Hoyas ever needed. Keep it up!!!

Three unnecessarily quick shots (Pickett x 2 and the Govan dunk attempt). You've got a decent lead and less than 3 minutes to play, you have to run some offense. I hear you but our pg play is so suspect that slowing the game down when you know opponent is gong to press just invites turnovers. With better ball handlers sure run some clock but I think (and I think PE knows) that if you have the shot take it.

Dude Govan played the worst defensive game tonight in a Georgetown jersey and we still won. And we got next to nothing from the freshman and Jagan and still won!

Dickerson controlled the tempo of last game as well. Ewing showing trust in him. He doesnt have to put up a lot of numbers just knock down shots when he's suppose too. Dickerson is a much better point guard than Tre Campbell was. Campbell never controlled the tempo of a whole game better yet two games and getting better. Dickerson has more heart as well!!! Crazy to mention Campbell smh. No disrespect to the young man Tre. Love Tre like a son.

What Patrick Ewing is doing is just AMAZING !!!! This team is getting better and better even with its limitations. The way the team is playing is just AMAZING !!!!. For those NBA Owners that think they know basketball, they completely missed on a great BASKETBALL COACH. And if you are a recruit and you want to play in the NBA, just look at Georgetown and learn.

The record ain't pretty but I'm really proud of this team. During a tough year, they're playing with heart and pride. This group has character. Most times, you can't coach that or, at the least, it only takes one or two guys to torpedo that during a rough stretch. Your guys have it or they don't. This group has it. I'm very proud of our guys, top to bottom.

I wouldnt say we got nothing from the freshman. This is a team game. Big rebound by Blair. Pickett hit a couple of big shots we needed although it was tough.

I love that the effort has been there night in and night out, whether we got blitzed by 25 or the rough stretch of losing a couple close ones or ones you thought you should’ve had. Still things to clean up, still mistakes we make at critical points in the game, but we seem to have a strong game plan going in to every game and the guys give 110% out there.

IIRC, that’s 5 games in a row that the Hoyas have beat the spread. This time by 15.5 points!

Some other good news:
We avoid a third straight losing season.
We matched our February win total...from the last two years combined.
We move to 4-4 In close/OT games in conference (in case you thought we lose them all).

I'm very proud of our guys, top to bottom. Hoya 84. You are spot on. I am a graduate of another very good BB school who has a granddaughter playing Soccer for G'town. Last year was tough, and the coaching was horribly unexciting with JTIII, especially on offense. Ewing was hired and it was a 50/50 split on this board. I was even unsure, but with his playing experience, passion, and asst coach NBA experience I was more optimistic than most. Lo' and behold, Ewing is doing day by day, week by week. This team is evolving. The frosh are not only growing and getting older as they would naturally, but they are understanding what the game is really about. This team is not 100% yet, but is improving daily. That folks, is Patrick Ewing. JTIII watched the same relative talent stagnate. The rest of this year will be a roller coaster. Next year, a dream. G'town BB will be back in its time honored place. Thank you players, thank you Patrick Ewing. I hope he is as excited as I am. And BTW, I hear we have a very good PG coming in next year to boot. Great win, go Hoyas.
