Did Sodom even get any PT in the game? I was watching on a cellphone so tough to tell who was in.

Yeah it's on my to-do to rewatch, unfortunately I'm moving this week so not much time. Did Sodom even get any PT in the game? I was watching on a cellphone so tough to tell who was in. DNP Thanks. To be expected since it was a closer game throughout. Hopefully the next few games until Cuse will get him plenty of PT. So far he's improved per minute he's played.

Thanks, I was trying to get a recorded DVD version. Don't know how long this will be available online on Stadium's site.

Now that I've seen the game (thanks yaboy and eva), I can't say I saw a ton of NEW positives. But I saw a couple! - Jonathon Mulmore! Man, he looked like the best overall player on the floor. Driving, dishing, making his shots, really both controlling the game and creating the offense when we needed it but also keeping everyone involved. He came up big every time we needed him. He was decisive and effective.
- The shooting improvement. Maybe we're just hot, but man, do I see some real improvement in shooting stroke for a bunch of these guys. Kaleb, Mulmore, Mosley, to be specific. I don't know if that's Ewing or just hard work over the summer, but many of us were worried that there wouldn't be enough shooting to provide spacing. Instead, outside shooting has been the biggest strength of the offense so far.
- Did I mention Johnathon Mulmore?
More worrisome elements: - If you took the names off the jersey, I'm not sure it'd be clear who was a high major and who was a midmajor. I mean, you can, because we were taller, longer and more athletic. But not by that much, and it was much closer than any of us should be comfortable with. It looked like two mediocre teams with a talented offensive guard and an offensive talented and defensively weak big each.
- Turnovers, turnover, turnovers. It's a good thing we are all very positive about Ewing, because this team still makes an absurd amount of dumb
- Soft in the middle. No, we didn't get killed on the boards, but Richmond is terrible down low. We weren't strong there. We won, but didn't dominate like we should have.

So, I finally have a few minutes for some thoughts as well. SFHoya99 just covered some of my thoughts, but here we go:
The Good:
(1) Mulmore. SFHoya99 pretty much said it all there. He had a really nice game. If he can keep this going, we will be in great shape.
Generally, this was a good offensive game for everybody but Blair. Pickett had that key three point shot, and also had 3 assists. I think he's going to be a really good to great player for us eventually.
(2) Three Point Shooting. We continue to shoot threes at a great clip. Will this continue? The current team numbers (47.6% from three!) aren't sustainable, but I would be pleased with a three point percentage in the high 30s. I am sincerely hoping this is not just a small sample size.
(3) Free throws. We went 22-26, and made ten more than Richmond. This was decisive. It doesn't appear that we have anybody (so far) who is awful or even bad at free throws. This is a great asset, and something I love to see, as I think bad free throw shooting is really unacceptable.
(4) Fouls. While our foul total was fairly high this game, I want to give Ewing and the staff credit for our guys fouling a LOT less than last year. Ranked out of 351 teams, the last four seasons we were ranked 246, 345, 306, and 331 in fouling too much.
This year, we are ranked 94 in the same stat. That's a huge turnaround, and one that will help us. Granted, if we start using more help defense, etc., this number could go up. But for now, this is a nice turnaround.
The Concerning:
(1) Turnovers. Too many, which led to...
(2) Richmond took 16 more FGs than us! Of course, we won and this is partially because of our three point shots and free throws, but we cannot turn it over like this against even a slightly better team than Richmond, or we will not end up on the winning end.
(3) Two point defense. Richmond 61.1% on twos. This is a really bad defensive showing, particularly for the frontcourt. This was largely because of their dribble penetration and our poor help defense, and because they killed us on the backdoor cuts (exactly what the cuts are supposed to do). Still, this is an extremely porous defense and the skill level of our opponents in conference play will go way up.

Finally caught the Richmond game and I will say, despite how poorly they shot that night, I love the stones and confidence that Blair and Pickett have. They aren't scared. They make mistakes but they still compete and will still take big shots even when not having productive games. We all know about Pickett's big three towards the end, but Blair made timely threes in the first half which helped prevented Richmond from pulling too far ahead. Once his shots start falling more, albeit against tougher competition, he's gonna be a very good source for points coming off the bench. I feel confident with him on the court. Pickett may just be the most creative passer on the team. He just has to work on that freshman sloppiness he has.
Also Mosely is already one of my favorite players on the team. His height and athleticism were already impressive tools for him but his handling and passing have shown continuous improvement. And now his shot seems to be falling more. When you include the fact that his defense is arguably as solid as anyone on the team, it is hard imagining him not getting major minutes.
Mulmore was game MVP and he has surprised me the most so far. I didn't expect such an Assist to Turnover ration from him. He is playing very solid ball right now.
The Hoyas weren't terribly impressive in the game and they will have to raise their level in roughly a month. But I will give the team credit for not falling apart on the road when they went down by seven points in the first half. They kept their heads and got themselves back in the game.

Shooters need to have their coach's blessing and confidence to keep shooting. It paid off as Blair and especially Pickett hit big shots after starting cold. You can't sit a shooter after he misses a couple of shots. I still feel that Cameron and Copeland could have contributed more under the right setting.

Same goes for Kaleb Johnson. After the first or second game Johnson spoke about the one three-pointer he hit (one in which fans on this very site stated they didn't want him taking many more of those despite his making it) and that he took the attempt because he had an open look and Ewing instructed the players to take shot attempts when left open. Ewing confirmed this to the press and said that if Johnson wasn't willing to take such shots he would sit him on the bench. I loved that. I loved hearing Ewing giving him a green light and the confidence and how it seemed predicated on a coaching philosophy. In the followup game Johnson hit all of those three pointers and broke his career scoring mark in the first half of that game alone.
