He probably received a phone call as soon as that interview was over. Trust me, they have Ewing under a microscope making sure he is doing everything right in order to avoid minor or major violations. but at least now you can see what i was getting at? I see what you're getting at, just no need to worry about that. They won't allow him to violate. Thye know he has a learning curve as it relates to ncaa rules and things of that nature. They'll be holding his hand all the way. Hell, there are seasoned coaches who violate. That's not the Georgetown way, mostly because the compliance office is on their game, and they will make sure PE is on his. No worries.

Thanks for the post Cosmopolitanhoya, I like to hear both sides of the issue. Another concern I heard from a coach was player development. Patrick Ewing was Dwight's Howard's "Personal Position Coach" with the Orlando Magic and the issue was Howard's game never developed... Dwight Howard lacks all the essentials that made Patrick Ewing great 1. A back to the basket game 2. No jump shot 3. Poor free throw shooter All of Dwight Howard's points come from dunks or layups This was the coach's quote: "Shaq stated Dwight Howard should be dominating the NBA... I know Ewing sees the holes in his game that I am seeing in Howard's game. Why is his game not developing? Why is Dwight Howard still one dimensional on offense?" And we care about Jay Williams' opinion why? The only advice I want from him is to stay off motorcycles. Screw him and his opinions. A little off topic but I recently walked past Jay Williams on 44th Street in Manhattan. He was talking to someone and ignored me when I said "Hey! Jay Williams!" So I proceeded to follow that up with " Edited Duke." Made my day. It's the little things in life you know?

Jay Williams nails the concerns many of us have here... The biggest knock on Ewing is his personality that is not very communicative; many are stating that what deterred him from getting a HC job in the NBA. If he was not communicative in the pros scene, I cannot imagine him being communicative with 14, 15, 16 years olds and their parents/coaches. You may see a few 4 star and 5 star players getting excited about meeting Ewing, but those star players also have big self-ego and is Ewing going to be the person who is going to cater up to their ego? If Ewing hires good assistants and leverages his NBA experiences/his name/reputation and the association of the star players to come visit those top recruits and snatch them up, many will be proven wrong, but at the same time exhilarated. But until we see some results from 2017 and 2018 classes, not gonna get the hopes up Kendall Gill dropped this on instagram today in response to Jay Williams: "Now you see why we don't look at this guy as part of our frat! He had a cup of coffee in the league and talks as if he were a 10-year vet. You don't talk about an all-time great like this! Patrick Ewing has paid his dues as an assistant in the NBA for many years. He deserves his opportunity. Especially at his alma mater, Georgetown. Even if this guy felt this way he should keep his mouth shut! You don't do that to a fraternity brother. We have a code! Obviously he never watched 'The Godfather!' 'Never tell anyone outside of the family what you're thinking!' Oops. I forgot. You're not part of the family! Show some respect dude!"

The more interviews the better. As much press as we can get. Honestly it can't hurt in recruiting.

All this chit-chat underscores the importance of having a rules pro on staff. If we somehow screw this up and it affects Waters eligibility, what a mess. Before we worry about violations, context is important. I posted this in the Waters thread, but it's possible that he was talking about after Waters arrives on campus. The actual quote was in response to a question about whether there was a spot for Iverson on the staff. Ewing said "I'm not sure if there's a spot on the staff, but he's always welcome. I'm going to use him everywhere I can. There's a kid down there in Connecticut who's a big fan of his. He had committed to Georgetown but when JT3 got let go he wanted us to release him. I know he's a big Allen fan, but at some point I'm going to try to get Allen and him together either over the phone or in person." I guess this writer didn't read my post here.

I dont think anyone in the world has doubted or stood against him getting an opportunity - he did pay his dues by serving as an assistant for the past 15 years. the question is - is the college coaching job right for him? NBA HC and NCAAM HC are two complete different animals. College HC always has to function like a GM and scout, bring in and pitch players to come in. In-game coaching is important, but it is not as emphasized as the NBA, where recruiting is half the battle here. Jay did not diss Pat in any way. He even said he loves him as a human being. But as someone like Jay, who was a touted recruit and has covered the NCAA basketball extensively over the decade, he does have some insights about how the college basketball works with with the runners, AAU coaches, dealin with parents and star-ego players. and it is quite grueling and he is simply indicating that Pat, descending from the great NBA, may not be the right fit for the job. dont think he said anything that should offend anyone and there are all reasonable concerns.
