Wade was a student manager at Clemson. I'm betting it would be really sweet for him to come back as head coach, depending on what happens with Brownell. LSU is also taking a look at Tom Crean, too: www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/lsu-gauging-interest-of-ex-indiana-coach-tom-crean-current-vcu-coach-will-wade/Saw somewhere else that Indiana was trying to put together some huge offer for Steve Alford. Now, that shows what one slam dunk as a recruit can do for you. He goes from nearly getting fired at UCLA to drawing major interest from Indiana. A lot of movements on the coaching search front.

I just saw it and was surprised too. He had been at Syracuse for so long. I was also surprised Washington was interested given that he didn't exactly wow when he stood in place of Boeheim last year. Sounds like Boeheim isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Boeheim may still be leaving after next season. They are trending down with their probation recruiting penalties, a very mediocre season just concluded, and losing 3 and possibly 4 (if Lydon leaves early)starters. Hopkins may have looked at all of that, together with the intense fan and media pressure on the only game in town (some fans want Boeheim to resign early, one year after a Final Four appearance), and just decided to go back to the west coach with a long term deal plus the post-Romar lowered expectations. There are also rumors that the new AD wants to establish his own mark at Syracuse, and would not automatically have agreed to Hopkins as the next HC, no matter what written or verbal understanding might be in place. Update - Syracuse announced an extension of Magoo "beyond the 2017-18 season" without details. Clearly in damage control mode. Nothing like extending a 72-year old who is a twice-penalized cheater, and whose last 3 teams have struggled mightily with the exception of a 2-week NCAA run aided by multiple upsets in their bracket.

It pains me to see Wade talking to LSU. That guy has such a bright future. We should have cleaned house a week and a half ago and been negotiating with Keatts, Wade and Hurley this week. Seeing guys with bright futures coming off the board while we sit completely still is very disappointing. If Georgetown came out and made it clear that III was staying, at least we'd know that much and could try and talk ourselves into how next year could somehow be better. But when there's still potential for a move and good candidates are taking jobs elsewhere makes it more painful--at least for me.

But when there's still potential for a move and good candidates are taking jobs elsewhere makes it more painful--at least for me. This sums up exactly how I feel about where things are right now. An unambiguous statement from the University would at least enshrine my temporary pessimism. It's frustrating to see really good candidates go off the board to other schools. And at another level, it seems almost like the Administration is giving a lift of the middle finger to the fan base. It's like they don't care if you give money, go to games, etc., they're just going to sit there and make sure you know nothing. Indeed, it's almost like they hope you don't care about the program so you don't ask any questions about it.

I thought part of the Cuse agreement on their last violation was his promise to step down in two years or something like that. what did I miss?

I thought part of the Cuse agreement on their last violation was his promise to step down in two years or something like that. what did I miss? Not their agreement with NCAA. Wasn't the only NCAA sanction against Magoo the nine-game suspension? Magoo stated that he intended to retire after the 2017-18 season but don't know if that was by agreement with his AD and Syverud. Obviously, he changed his mind in light of Hopkins's departure so it wasn't any type of enforceable agreement.

Obviously, he changed his mind in light of Hopkins's departure so it wasn't any type of enforceable agreement. He lost the wins in which he used players that should have been ineligible. Otherwise you are right - the 3-year time frame came from discussions with the administration, plus Magoo's hope that it would give him time to get out from other the repeat stench. I love ESPN's spin on this - the only reason Hopkins left was to ease the pressure on Boeheim to stick to his original retirement date. Do high school kids really want to be recruited by a 72+ year old man who thinks nothing of tossing them under the bus in press conferences, and is deeply rooted in his zone philosophy.

I think Cuse & us are on the same sinking ship unfortunately. Very few programs bounce back immediately from a coach for life situation and they are just prolonging the inevitable.

Syracuse was in the Final Four all of one season ago. That puts them well behind us in the sinking ship contest. And they were also a lot closer to (undeservedly) making the tournament this year than we were. Glub glub.

Alford is still beloved in Indiana, as a former Mr. Basketball and the leader of a team that won the NCAA championship. I don't think he would be drawing much interest anywhere else. Interestingly, while I would like to see Alford stay at UCLA, there doesn't seem to be much of a groundswell for that here in LA.

Alford has 3 Sweet 16s in 4 years at UCLA. Talk about unreasonable expectations.

Will Wade to LSU replacing Johnny Jones, 10-21 this year (2-16 SEC, 1-17 in last 18). Before that, Jones was 80-51 in his previous four years.

I'm a friends with a huge IU fans and surprisingly they aren't excited about the talk of Alford coming. They have pipe dreams for Stevens and want Archie Miller, Chris Mack or Tony Bennett over Alford.

Multiple sources in New Jersey and Pittsburgh report that King Rice, the head coach at Monmouth University (Metro Atlantic) has accepted the head coaching job at Duquesne (Atlantic 10). Nothing official yet, and no news conferences are pending.
