A coach gets a lot more leash with the BE and with some success you can last a long time. Just look at the run of our last coach after only one FF. Jay Wright likely has a lifetime contract now with a NC. It seems like the money isn't all that different either. What am I missing about these jobs? To a certain extent National Perception. ESPN referred to Xavier as mid-major. Michael Wilbon and Dock Walker of ESPN implied that the JTIII was ham strunged by lack of facilities and that the Hoyas fan base doesn't know how good they had it. AKA, the grass is not always greener on the other side That's ESPN who is ACC news and will bury BE basketball at every turn. Just remember their entire studio on selection Sunday and what everyone's FF looked like and how many ACC schools were not seeded properly. I think we know how that played out. Go Kentucky.

I think you have a good point there. Tom Crean goes from BIG10 Coach of the year to getting fired the next year. John Calipari for all the talk of Kentucky's talent can barely keep the Wildcats fans base happy as they want banners hanging every year. These guys are under tremendous pressure not to have a down year. A little surprised that Archie Miller would sign up for the Hoosier job after seeing how Crean got treated. Fan base loyalty in the BE is top notch Below is an excerpt on facebook from a fan on the Hoyas fan group page "In 30 years of watching and being involved in athletics, I have never been as disgusted by what has amounted to a public lynching over the past month of someone who has represented Georgetown University with nothing other than class over the past thirteen years by the media, fans, students, and alumni. When a public statement of support by Georgetown University could have stopped these outbursts from the community, the university stood quiet and allowed John Thompson III to stand on an island by himself and have his foundation chopped down at the knees. Did you think your student and alumni protests were going to convince recruits to attend Georgetown? What did you think Tremont Waters was going to do?
Maybe if we went to the games and cheered, those close home losses against Seton Hall, Butler, Depaul, and Xavier would have become victories. Did you think L.J. Peak was going to stick around and play in an environment where criticizing his coach had become the norm. Things are never perfect, but a true judge of character comes when things are not how we want or expect them to be. Many of us chose to complain publicly, criticize, hang firing banners in opposing arenas, write negative articles, and draw letters in the snow. It is one thing to privately tell someone that you support them, but the university silence during this time period spoke volumes and only fueled the public protests."

You can read the rest hereThe protests were a bit ridiculous and embarrassing but so were the thoughts that Waters left over the fanbase sentiment. III had a good run early in his tenure and then went downhill for a long slow slide that lead to what we witnessed. Still think he was given tremendous support to right the ship but the direction of the program was in reverse. Let's hope we make the right hire and things get better. Let's hope the III era is remembered more for the 2007 days and we have a great relationship with the Thompson's going forward.

...hopefully the staff is reaching out to the "people" associated with some of these coaches' class of 2017 recruits. A list of their committed players: NC State: Thomas Allen, SG (247 Ranking: #149), though he's an unlikely target as he played on the same AAU team (Garner Road) and prep school (Brewster Academy) as Isaac Copeland Indiana: Clifton Moore, PF/C (247 Ranking: #141), Justin Smith, SF (247 Ranking: #72), Al Durham PG/SG (247 Ranking: #237) - Moore's a really interesting late bloomer from PA who the Hoyas were reported to be recruiting at one point Clemson: Aamir Simms, SF/PF (247 Ranking: #116), AJ Oliver, SG (247 Ranking: #175), Malik William, PF (247 Ranking: #191), Clyde Trapp, SG (247 Ranking: #298) - Simms was a major target of former Hoyas assistant Kevin Sutton and the Hoyas were thought to be the leader in his recruitment prior to Sutton's departure My take is the Hoyas could certainly use another big man going into next season and Moore/Simms would be ideal late additions. A true shooter wouldn't hurt, either, with Allen being a potentially interesting target if the relationships with Garner Road and Brewster are not beyond repair for this coaching staff. It was no surprise when Thomas Allen committed to NC State in the fall. The high level shot maker had a very good relationship with the coaches at NC State and he was from the Raleigh area. However after a year at Brewster Academy and a coaching change, Allen has opened things up. "Thomas met with his family today and spoke with Coach (Kevin) Keatts requesting his release," said Brewster Academy Head Coach Jason Smith. Allen is one of the best shot makers in the class with a very solid feel for the game. He continues to work to become more of a combo guard who can handle pressure, but still his biggest strength is putting the ball in the basket from deep. Allen also had interest from Nebraska, Saint Louis, and Texas A&M along with many others when he initially chose NC State. As the best shooter now available in the 2017 class, expect a lot of inquires for Allen who plans to take his time with the process. www.scout.com/college/basketball/recruiting/story/1765348-allen-requests-release
