So jealous of a coach who fires up his players... McDermott makes $1 million a year, according to USA Today. Gotta factor in the monetary exchange rate in Nebraska, though.

Let me see if I understand this. We are in D.C. a great city with a great bball tradition and with talented players up and down I-95. Meanwhile, Creighton, in the middle of nowhere Nebraska, loses the best point guard in the country and yet seems to find guys who can put up 30+ points in a game. What's wrong with this picture?

So we lose games because we aren't very good. That's much different than losing games because we just happen to be missing threes. When we shoot very well, we have a chance. When we don't shoot well from outside, we lose. Which brings us full circle back to my initial comment where I said that plenty of other teams can win and shoot poorly from three; as we have very little else going for us, we can't.

Although it seems odd, I think we were damaged by Jessie scoring early. He then seemed to feel he had the green light to throw up everything he could get off (don't know whether it was the case, or whether he just wanted it to be), took some poor shots, and had everybody else standing around watching. LJ and Rodney had their moments the rest of the way, but never really got in the flow.

Agree 100% - again, because we have so few other offensive weapons.

guys....my apologies in advance for not reading the previous 14 pages on this thread. My concern going into this game was that we were going to be overly reliant on Jessie as if we discovered a new secret recipe. Jessie was clearly our first option and as a result we could never get going. He does much better as a 2nd or 3rd option and so does our offense.
Other thoughts. Mulmore seems to have taken a step back in his ability to push and create offense. Mosely seemed to be playing downhill and did a better job at making things happen. I thought Johnson did a nice job.
Other than that, you can pretty much stick a fork in us in terms as the ncaa's are concerned. There is always next year.

That was disappointing. Seemed like switching to the 2-3 helped us dig out of the early hole, but then we got sloppy and stuck, and Creighton took control for the last... 25... minutes... of... the...game. Ah well. I feel like my pre-game irrational exuberance was matched by Akoy. Here I was thinking he had arrived as a solid interior player with a decent shot and some good vision and lots of hustle. Akoy had other things in mind, apparently today was to be the day when he went all Magic on everybody. Not quite. For whatever reason, and Creighton certainly gets the lion share of credit, we could not get Peak and Pryor involved in the flow. There was way too much Mulmore, Agoy, Derrickson and Johnson coming off of Govan touches, we did not play what I thought was our game. Creighton was going to be tough for anybody today to be sure, we needed to get a lot more out of our mid first half surge than we did. That Foster kid had me thinking of JR Rider in terms of great performances I've unfortunately seen, he was amazing. Keep fighting fellas!

Thought Mosley played much better than Mulmore, but that is not a high bar. Kid still has no shot but does have a certain maturity that has developed this year. Disagree on Kaleb. He cannot finish, cannot shoot and looks completely overwhelmed. He plays hard and rebounds well but his defense is decent only because of those around him to which he is compared. Everyone else, particularly Agau and MD, was very poor overall. Peak and Pryor did not shoot well and both were off on defense. One thought, when a player is distracted by wanting to play well at home, leading to multiple mistakes and TOs, it is incumbent on the coach to settle him down or sit him down. Neither occurred today.

That Foster kid had me thinking of JR Rider in terms of great performances I've unfortunately seen, he was amazing. Keep fighting fellas! That's the kind of player Foster is - really streaky. He was way off in our first game, we won by 20+. He was hot today, they won by 17. There was of course a whole lot more involved in the winning and losing of both games for both teams, but Foster's play was the most dramatic difference. I figured that McDermott would have an answer for the "trap the guard on ball screens" D we used to really disrupt them in the first game. The screener slipped the screens today, and they pushed the ball upcourt really card even after made baskets, so we could not get set up on defense. this allowed them to get whatever they wanted on offense early in the game, until we backed off the trapping D. We actually settled down defensively for about 8 minutes in the first half, when we tightened things up. But then they got rolling again late in the first half, and just built on it from there. We just don't have a versatile team, in terms of either players or coaching. there have been times over the years when JTIII pulled out some clever coaching tactics, but he most often does not match the adjustments that other coaches make. Part of that is that our players have talent, but most of them have talent within a narrow range. So it is hard for them to make adjustments, because the adjustments can put them outside of the range of their talents. Example - Jesse is a good shooter/scorer. But he is a mess when he gets doubled in the post. So when he becomes a first option on offense - a good coach doubles him every time in the post, and we usually end up with a bunch of turnovers. We're just not a good team. I don't know if we are a bad team, we probably have a bit too much talent for that label. Be we definitely are not a good team, and it is hard to see that changing much any time soon with the current level of recruiting/coaching.

Props to McDermott. He knew to let Agau, Kaleb, and Jessie take shots. Both Peak and Pryor had to work for what they got. He didn't let Derrickson ever get comfortable.
Clearly everyone on the court could have played much smarter and taken better shots though. Terrible end to the first...lots of similar mistakes as many other losses. There are only so many ways you can lose a game though and we've seemed to do many of them this year. At Creighton was never going to be easy especially since they wanted revenge for the drubbing in DC. Personally, I always thought our road would be over 'Nova or through BET, that still stands. I just hope we make it through the games until then.

Patton is their best player now. He is a talented center with great moves with his back to the basket. They will go to him a lot and often. It will be imperative that the Hoyas not leave Govan one on one with Patton because he will get him in foul trouble early. It's a home game for them and the refs will more than likely call ticky tack fouls on Govan and Dickerson. I may vatch grief for saying this, but BHayes csn B'effective G-fensively v Patton. Possibly our best pure post defender (maybe AA). Send me your decryptor so we can all understand that important messaging.

Best officiated game of the year.
I liked what I saw from Akoy, Kaleb, Jagan, and LJ.
Marcus killed us. We need him to be able to hit open shots.

Govan needs to score 10+ for us to win most games so I am ok with him being aggressive with his shot. I'll give him a pass. Derrickson and Mulmore have to show up for games like this. Neither did.

We have a low IQ basketball team, top to bottom, from our highest scorers to those who cannot score at all. And not just this year. I see the same mistakes made over and over again, with no adjustment. By way of example (and there are many more), Govan is constantly caught out of position at the top of the key, leaving his man wide open for a layup or dunk. Either our coach is unable to recognize basketball IQ when recruiting or the staff is unable to raise that IQ when they get to Georgetown. A winning program is what we all want, but what I find most difficult to watch is a team that repeats the same mistakes and is not getting better.
I fear that we have yet to hit bottom.
PLAY TREY!

I'm tired of Jessie shooting 3s. I'm tired of Marcus shooting 3s. I'm tired of Akoy being allowed to shoot 3s without being benched. And I'm tired of Mulmore throwing 3PFGs at the basket.
