The trapping gave them the bucket to take the lead late. I like mixing it in because the bigs are terrible at hedging but no reason to extend the trap if the ball handler heads towards halfcourt. Garrett was killing us because Pryor and Cameron were trying to guard him with Peak in foul trouble. Jagan should've been in earlier to defend him. That bucket came because Rodney for some silly reason left his feet, giving the doofy kid an easy lay-in....it was a perfect trap and a perfect rotation...if Rodney stands arms up, the doofy kid has nowhere to go, and he either travels or throws up a shot with very high degree of difficulty....Down the stretch, we simply had to make someone OTHER than Garrett beat us....We did that...and we won the game A 5 foot shot from a big with a guard on him is a high degree of difficulty? I'm not disagreeing with you that the trap has worked well due to our poor PNR defense, I just don't think we need to extend as far as we did on occasion tonight, especially on the possession they took the lead.

Slightly tangential to the topic, but the repetitive commercials during the game (on FoxSportsGO at least) for the John Malkovich fashion line had me scratching my head about what alternative universe I would have to be in to actually consider purchasing any of that.

How about LJ though? Dude was money down the stretch. Put the team on his back and refused to lose. Sure he can get out of control at times, but the kid isn't afraid of the moment. He'll go down as one of my favorite Hoyas regardless of team success or lack thereof

Well, I agree that any win on the road in the BE is tough. So, great job in that respect. Frankly, though, I had to stop watching when DePaul tied it up at around the 10 minute mark. The play that led to that was emblematic of everything that frustrates me about this team and JTIII teams in general. A really silly unforced turnover leads to a drive by Depaul, the shot is missed, but DePaul scores on a putback. Ugh ugh ugh.
Props to the guys for staying in there and pulling this one out. Going forward please please cut down on the stupid silly maddening unforced turnovers, and please please please learn how to box out. Also, it wouldn't hurt learning how to stop a decent guard from penetrating at will. Glad they took the ball out of garretts hands down the stretch.
Will be there in DC with my family and a number of classmates and their families for the SHU game.

I think we can both agree the offensive execution late was much better than it has been in close games this year.

lol...the trapping down the stretch flat out won the game...we don't win without it....Garrett was killing us, and we got the ball out of his hands on three of their last four possessions The trapping gave them the bucket to take the lead late. I like mixing it in because the bigs are terrible at hedging but no reason to extend the trap if the ball handler heads towards halfcourt. Garrett was killing us because Pryor and Cameron were trying to guard him with Peak in foul trouble. Jagan should've been in earlier to defend him. Isn't Kaleb the best defender?

Jessie played very well: 14 pts, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a block. I'll take that kind of production from him on a regular basis and be happy. Yeah the 5 turnovers were a bit much but two were steals where the doubleteam came from the blind side... can't fault him too much for that.

I thought the officiating played a factor in the way we played. Peak was obviously frustrated and had to play less aggressively. However, overall I would say we did what we had to do to grind out the win. The other side desperately wanted the win as well.
This league has no let up, that's for sure.

Kaleb would've been good on him late as well, just though Jagan did well earlier in the game

Yeah that last charge call on LJ was terrible. He had a right to be frustrated but a couple of his fouls were all on him and were just poor plays.

This team doesn't know how to close out. Toss up at this point and I'd take the home team. We scored 9 of the last 12 points in the second half We scored the last 8 points of the first half Closing out is precisely what this team did tonight

My complaints: giving up offensive rebounds and making lazy passes that led to turnovers.
My positives: fantastic shooting, especially by Rodney; honorable mention to Jessie; great defense in key moments, especially at the end; nice to see Reggie play well. It's a W on the road that we needed badly, and I'll take it.
I suspect this was covered upthread, but what's the story with Bradley and Trey?

I thought the way they closed this game was big. Again Govan had a big play at end. And I can't say enough about LJ. And JT3 let him run that play without calling a time out. Amazing! Big difference from just a few weeks ago. I love feeling confident at end of game situations, and I'm getting there with this team.

That was a point in time prediction and glad they proved me wrong as they have not closed many games this year. Let's hope they precisely win some more games to climb out of this hole.

When the TV shot caught Hayes on the bench, it looked like he had a black eye (or something along those lines). Maybe he caught an elbow in practice, and they decided to hold him out? He was in uniform, so hopefully that means any possible injury is not serious.

In a more wide open NBA why couldn't he carve a nice niche in the League. Pryor too. Disgusted at this team's weak defense. Otherwise this team would be pretty darn good.

Won on the road in the Big East despite not valuing the ball and almost zero paint presence.
Take the W and get back to campus.

I think we can both agree the offensive execution late was much better than it has been in close games this year. The late game plays from the last two games should be a huge part of the offense but for some reason they are only allowed to do it when they are trying to bleed the clock out at the end of a game.
