so technical means "official visits" and all that stuff? thanks didnt know that I dunno. I couldn't find the definition in the rule book, but I didn't look too hard. It is very clear that any recruited player is a counter, but I don't know the definition. For instance, I'm sure Lee Melchionni talked with a member of the Duke coaching staff before walking on (as I'm sure AKD did as well). Is that recruiting? Are any walk-ons these days real walkons in the sense that they are taken from a student body after school starts? I'd bet an official visit (money spent on a player) or a home visit counts as "recruiting" but phone calls may or may not.

Stupid question: does Rivers have to take a scholarship? Or can a player like him pay his own way (Doc can't be making too bad a salary, can he?)? We all know he is a scholarship-caliber player, but just wanted to see how the logistics could be worked out. I think there was something on this board about the recruiting process saying that once you are recruited, you automatically take a scholarship spot but I cannot remember. Great to see Rivers will be a Hoya! No, really bad idea. Top 40 kids get schollies no matter what. Asking someone like that to walk on would be classless and really stupid. Unless they offered themselves, no way, and almost no one like that is gonna offer to walk on, this is a lot about pride as well. The only reason I would conisder Ewing is because he's not coming straight out of high school and he'll only be playing for 2 seasons.

Its not a Celtic connection. Rivers has only coached there for one year. Its more of personal connection base on Jeremiah Rivers quotes. Rivers and Ewing were teammates on the Knicks.

Let's not get greedy and start expecting scholarship players to pay their own way. This is a great get for the Hoyas, especially because we beat out Notre Dame, Kansas and others for his services.
You never know how players are going to turn out, so all I hope for every year is that the staff gets a few of the guys they really want. It is a great time to be a Hoya fan.

It seems like some people on this board are getting a little too greedy. Let's enjoy the fact that we would have NEVER gotten a recruit of Rivers' caliber while Esherick was here. It seemed that Esherick would get close, but he could never seal the deal. Rivers' commitment tells me that JTIII can seal the deal, and we'll be getting big time recruits for years to come. Man, am I excited about this commitment. This is huge.

WELCOME TO THE HOYA FAMILY JEREMIAH!! I'm sure I speak for all Hoya fans when I say we're happy to have a new FAMILY member and look forward to seeing you suit up and follow your career. Forgive the talk of scholarship/non scholarships, but I think the board is just so excited about the program and future that we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves. I know I can't help but to get excited with the recruiting news we've received in last 12 hours and the play of the team last year with promise of even bigger things ahead. The PARANOIA IS BACK and WILL BE CRAZIER THAN EVER!!!!!

Just want to add to the excitement - I have had a smile at work all day! The Pukie who sits next to me doesn't know I am smiling about what Gtown is going to do to him in the years to come...
Go Hoyas! Welcome to the Family Jeremiah!

Rivals has some video clips, plus a minimal write-up on him.
As best as I can tell, he plays a lot like his dad. Physical point who plays decent defense. Finishes well in the paint. Has a mid-range shot but needs a bit of work at the 3. From the video, he seemed to dribble well with both hands.
Not necessarily explosive or a spectacular athlete, like you might expect from someone ranked that high. Leading to a lot of comments saying he is overrated. Now he may have a 0% chance of being the best player in the class, but I'd bet his bust factor is much lower than the players ranked around him.
It may just be the father factor, but there is some NBA buzz about him (not out of HS, but more NBA potential).

In the videos he looks like a very physical guard who takes it strong to the hole and finishes extremely well. They show him finishing a lot of and 1's and his jumper form looks pretty good although he apparently needs to improve his 3 point shooting a bit.
Style of play reminds me of Deron Williams, not because of the skin color, haha, but because he is big and while he isn't the flashiest guy ever he is extremely effective and looks smooth.

The Post art. is great. It sounds like III was the biggest draw for Doc, Jr. I am really excited for the next couple of years. It is really nice to read a positive little blurb like this in the Post.

Lets hope the Ewing/Rivers commitments are a repeat of the dynamics witnessed at North Carolina. Where May/Felton/McCants and Williams jelled together at various All Star games and decided to help restore a program to national prominance by all signing with the same team. It seems to me we are one big man away from this same dynamic(Macklin,Thomas, Summers, etc.) Are there any top 5 big men who want to make history like the Fab 5 and the North Carolina gang? Come on, and get onboard the JT3 Express.

That said, WOO HOO!
