Not to beat the refereeing dead horse, but the Derrickson foul on Huff's 3 pointer with about 3 minutes to play was an anticipation call. Fox showed a replay in which the official was in the foreground. I gave it the Zapruder film treatment on my DVR, and the ref clearly starts to raise his arm to make the foul call before Marcus actually makes contact. In real time, it's a split second and you'd never know the difference - and Marcus did make contact. But the official made up his mind to call a foul before he actually saw anything. Garbage. Good point. Those refs may have been the worst in any game in any sporting event I have witnessed in my life.

What more do you want JT3 to do? Specifics please. I was commenting that I like many here liked what jt Jr. said what he said at the press conference. I like when jt iii gets mad and shows some emotion when I feel we are getting hosed by the refs. And I liken that behavior to jt jr. That's what I meant. He does that often. People seem to only recognize it if he gets a technical which, during that game, he easy could have been rung up. Those that think he's meek and mild during games aren't paying attention.

Yeah III does not jump up and down, rip his jacket off and flap his arms around like others do, but you can often tell from his expression when he is in a ref's ear that he is barking pretty harshly. Refs generally listen to that approach more than to a coach who tries to show them up.
Which of our assistants has the "Hold Him Back" assignment when Coach starts to really go off?

Well, then you must not have watched the game. JT3 was pretty animated after some of the BS calls in the second half.

I sit ten rows behind the bench and this is absolutely correct. JTIII works the refs but not in the way some other coaches do. It's like a hitter not showing up an umpire in baseball. From my vantage point, he's in the ear of whichever ref is closest to him if he perceives the calls aren't fair. That's why the Creighton game was so unusual. I could've sworn he was going to get T'ed up.

I recall thinking midway through the second half that III needed to get T'd up because the officiating was so atrocious. One possible outcome could have been us losing by a point if CU hits both FTs. Or maybe Govan doesn't foul out and the flow is different. Hard to say. You can always tell how Editeded III is by how hard he shoves he hands into his pockets when he goes over to the officials. Clearly an effort to not show the refs up by gesticulating wildly with his hands and arms. IMO, he is barking at the refs a lot more this year than in previous years. But I am not sure how much it is going to help given our seeming inability to adjust to the new rules. With the self-fulfilling prophecy others have mentioned ("I heard Gtown fouls a lot. . . .there is no way Peak could have boxed that guy out so cleanly!), I really don't know how much getting T'd/tossed is going to help. Maybe you save it for when the calls are so egregious like Tuesday, but the FTs could have been the margin against us. Ultimately I don't know where I come down on III getting T'd up more often, but I am always happy to hear from his father. And it looks like PE Jr had the "hold him back" assignment, Frazier.

You can easily tell when JT3 is really Editeded: he puts both hands in his pockets to keep from getting too physically animated when he's bending the ear of an official. ON EDIT: Biff beat me to it

I'm in an uber on the way home. I left before the last TV timeout. I've had season tickets for twenty years and I've never left a game before the end. Today, I just couldn't take it any longer. If I decide not to renew my season tickets next year, it's not because I stopped loving my alma mater or my team. It will be because I can no longer stomach the garbage that is officiating in a Big East Georgetown game. It is no longer a sport when there isn't fair competition. I don't know what I watched tonight, but it wasn't basketball. I didn't quote this to call you out. I just thought the timing was surreal. Having just watched the game, I can't say I agree with the general reaction that we played incredibly poorly and then got lucky at the end. 1. Creighton is a good team -- their Pomeroy ranking puts them as a firm at large team and better than us. They beaten SH on the road easily and Butler at home. And they whupped us in Omaha. 2. We played them roughly even until they took a ten point lead ... that was entirely driven by a series of about five insanely bad calls in a row. That's what drove the gap that we had to make up at the end! 3. We won anyway.

It's crazy but it's also impossible to not love and also envy Rich's childlike enthusiasm that he's always had. I wish I had more of that. If he starts bottling it, I'm buying stock in the producing company the day it IPOs. Love that guy. HOYAS WIN!!
