Paul White should have played tonight! Very unselfish player who generates offense. Why no minutes when Hoyas have won all the games he has played? Elite talent! What a waste to be on the sidelines! Couldn't agree more...if he is healthy! Where are JTIII's post game remarks? Obviously, that question would have been asked.

This thread is ridiculous. Every time we lose to a team that people don't respect they bring this nonsense up.
No, Monmouth isn't the worst loss of the JT3 era. That assertion by ThisJustIn is ridiculous. Radford, for one, was clearly worse. The 2013 team had a horrible loss to USF that was far worse than Monmouth. And DePaul at the BET was really awful too.
None of this merits hot seat discussion. And the idea that JT3's salary could easily bring in a quality coach is ridiculous too. We've been over this numerous times. Not to mention that it's highly unlikely Georgetown would give any other coach that amount of money.

For me Radford wasn't a worse loss, the team lost that game on a buzzer beater in the 2nd OT after they battled back on a number of occasions.. Tonight they got whooped by a team they knew was going to be a tough out on their home floor.. They played lethargic basketball the very next game after almost blowing a 20+ pt lead 3 days ago.. This loss was far worse than Radford in my view..

Not to mention that it's highly unlikely Georgetown would give any other coach that amount of money. So with the understanding that this March will mark nine years since this program has survived the first weekend of the tournament and this university spends an absurd amount of money on the basketball program yearly, which of course includes a salary of $2.8 million for a coach in charge of a program with home losses to Radford and Monmouth, what exactly should merit that discussion? Just curious.

2 or 3 consecutive post season NIT appearances or what is known as the end of the Eshrick era.

I'm also curious why a discussion of the coach doesn't merit attention as to whether he should be on the hot seat as well? Top shelf guards don't like how the team plays and apparently neither does the casual fan. When was the last time the team actually overachieved overall? You know kinda how what Monmouth is doing.

Those who have defended JT3 will always defend him no matter what - will always tell us to go back to 2006-07 season, which is almost a decade ago. will always threaten that if we fire JT3, all the NBA alums are just going to dump us. think both side's arguments are gettin pretty old

The topic merits discussion, of course. After all, this is a message board. But talk all we want, the fact is that the coach's father built the modern-era program and has an athletic center that is under construction named after him. The coach is not going anywhere. Again, not that this means we can't discuss the topic.
Personally, I think I have finally reached the breaking point. Too much talent on this team to be performing as we are. I am now looking to losses (Duke, UMCP) to bolster my optimism. That is not a sign of a program trending in the right direction.

LOL the 2012-13 team was a massive overachievement. Team was mostly just Otto, with markel as his robin. Look at the rest of that roster. And we were easily a top 8 team in the country. Arguably best defense in the country. NCAA 2 seed. Go ahead and point to the FGCU loss, but don't tell me jtiii didn't prepare that team to the point where any blue blood program would have been shaking in their boots if they had to play us.

III should not be on the hot seat. Having said that, he did a poor job last night, but not for most of the strategic reasons people are discussing. On some level, it was his job to get that team ready to play, and certainly to inspire them to take it personally when they got pushed around by a bunch of confident but mediocre (at best) nobodies. He failed at that last night.
Having said that, all in all he is a fine coach who DOES THINGS THE RIGHT WAY. He will be the coach as long as he wants to be the coach, and as fans we should be glad that is the case.

We shouldn't have been surprised by what they do. There was plenty of digital evidence. Seems we were poorly prepared or perhaps we simply wanted to watch the bench mob play out. We aren't quick enough to guard the perimeter and that's the fault of recruiting and it falls at the feet of the coach. As bad as this year is becoming, next year will be worse. This maybe the only intelligent post in this entire thread perhaps the post of the season. The point made has been clearly evident for some time and has not been addressed by the staff for 3 years.

I'm tired of making excuses for some of our more surprising losses, which seem to be coming with greater regularity. It's gotten to the point where people seem okay with saying and knowing that a team like Monmouth was simply better as a team. It's just utterly disappointing that this seems to be the new normal for Georgetown. Maybe it's time I start to resign myself to the fact that times have simply changed, and we aren't as relevant as this board would like to believe.

JTIII has to start recruiting point guards who may not be top 100 talent to complement his point-forward approach..

He isn't near the hot seat nor will he likely ever be. He will leave on his own terms. That being said, he got outcoached last night. Their ball movement was far superior. When we are down a dozen with three to go you can't run your normal sets that are too slow to get an initial good look. You can't run the same line-up out that got us thrashed in the first half (with Reggie for Marcus just to F up D more) and expect to improve. What about going really small? What about going really big with Govan, Hayes & Mourning? Give me something that resembles effort.
I would have been happy if he ran out a second half line-up of Williams, Mourning, Govan, White & fill in the blank. Bench the starters and light a fire. Do something!

For the last freaking time:
The program belongs to Pops. He earned that.
If you know anything about Jack DeGioia, then you know there is no way that he will make a move on JTIII while they are launching a new athletic center with his father's name on the door.
The idea that JTIII has a lifetime appointment even if he doesn't perform is wrong. Pops and Esh had a close relationship that spanned three decades -- it is why Pops handpicked him to coach the team. Yet the university made a change anyway. That does not happen without Pops' blessing. He may give his son a little more rope, but I doubt he would ever allow the program to flounder just to keep JTIII employed.
Perspective, folks. If you factor in the program's historical performance (NCAA appearances, national championship, conference titles, player behavior/academics and overall impact on college basketball), Georgetown is a top 20 program, maybe higher. Considering the lack of facilities and the university's policy of not caving on academics, that is an exceptional achievement.
You want someone else? OK -- but aside from Roy Williams and probably a couple others I can't remember, there aren't many instances where a new guy sits in the legend's chair and takes his team to the national championship.
Maybe the program just is what is. It could be a lot worse -- can we not live with that?

To quote the ad, "We Are Georgetown!!!" Sadly, when it comes to basketball, that means we are a middling former power that routinely craps the bed against mid-majors.
I still root for the Hoyas and always will, but expectations are lowered.
