No, a coach can no longer call a timeout when the ball is live. Question on this for anyone: can the players call a TO when the ball is live? or is it no TOs at all? Players can call a TO during live play.

I think its time for geezers like Lichoya and me to weigh in on this discussion. Georgetown is a small private school with an outstanding academic reputation. We have limited basketball related athletic facilities and a small but enthusiastic alumni base. We are competing against schools who will do anything to win and who share none of our values or standards. The fact that our basketball program has done as well as it has over the last 10 years is a testament to JTIII and his staff. We have to understand that considering who we are competing against we have very little margin for error. Austin develops diabetes, Wright breaks his wrist, Otto leaves after 2 years, Whit gets tossed. Guys like Hopkins and Lubick never live up to their high school hype. I saw during the Esh era (and the pre-JT2 and 3) what this bball program would look like with a mediocre coach. Do I wish we did better in the NCAA tourney? Sure. But the fact that we can compete against and beat much bigger schools and deeper programs and regularly compete for our league championship - and actually be top seeded in the NCAA tourney while never sinking to the UNC, Louisville, Syracuse level of corruption is more than enough for me. Hell I was Editeded after the loss to Redford and will be mad if this team doesn't perform better but losing JT3 will not suddenly turn us into a basketball powerhouse. So let's just lighten up on JT3 and enjoy what will probably be a rocky but I'm guessing an enjoyable year. I can't +1 this enough. Every time I read something like this : georgetownvoice.com/2015/11/06/all-bark-no-bite-can-georgetown-rebuild-its-damaged-reputation/where the author compares us to Kentucky, UNC, and Duke and makes the argument that head coaching is really the thing that is holding us back from being one of the top tier in college basketball, I immediately tune out because that person has no clue. Georgetown is not a power-5 conference member, we aren't televised on ESPN, we have no on-campus facilities comparable to those other schools. It's ludicrous to compare ourselves to Kentucky, UNC, and Duke. JT3 is a very, very successful coach given what Georgetown is. People who want to move on from this level of success have completely forgotten where the program could be - we could endlessly shuffle head coaches and repeat 2002-2004 levels. Their hyperbole about the state of this program would actually make sense then. 1. TC, I appreciate you reading my column. 2. You got the whole premise of my column wrong. I never said that coaching is the thing that is holding Georgetown back from being a top tier program again. I would ask for you to direct me to the part where I say that Thompson should be fired. But that's nonexistent throughout the piece. That is all. I hope you continue to read our stuff at the Voice.

3 X Big East Championship Coaches (2007,2008 & 2013) & Big East Coach of Years (2013) don't grow on trees. For those who want him fired, who are you replacing him with? Also aren't these the same people who were chirping after the South Florida loss in 2012-2013 season. The team went on to win the Big East championship and JTIII was named COY.
This year's version is made up of DSR (no excuse to start the Radford game that slow), little used Hayes, Peak, Copeland & Campbell (perimeter defense from all three against Radford was inexcusable) who now need to be more than complementary pieces this year and Freshman. It looks like no one knew their role when the bullets started flying. This will be corrected with in game experience.

it's all politics. those type of decisions need to be made in the off season, not now

This isnt Radford. They beat UCLA who beat UK. But we've had a lot of these losses, or at least they are magnified.

We shouldn't have been surprised by what they do. There was plenty of digital evidence. Seems we were poorly prepared or perhaps we simply wanted to watch the bench mob play out. We aren't quick enough to guard the perimeter and that's the fault of recruiting and it falls at the feet of the coach. As bad as this year is becoming, next year will be worse.

It's not that this was just a loss, but we got handled from tip to finish and that's what most frustrating about these kinds of losses.
You're crazy if you think the school wouldn't be able to throw JTIII's salary around and bring in a damn good coach.

This was a pathetic showing by coach and team. Worst game of season. Now we need to go back to the basics and wipe this one from the memory banks. We played FAR better against everyone else. We will get past this, but it sure sucks right now.

JTIII $2.7 million per year
King Rice $300,000 per year
Is the Monmouth loss, the worst loss of the JTIII era?

Maybe we need to run the film of these games on a loop in the locker room, to pound home how crappy we can play and how very much work we need.

We will get past this, but it sure sucks right now. Who have we played better then so far this year. Syracuse and Wisconsin are trash this year. Syracuse won't play in the tournament this year and Wisconsin will be a bubble team at best. We have nearly blown every large lead we had so far this year (except for Bryant). We struggle with very quick guards breaking down our defense either off pick n roll or straight off the bounce. We also struggle with teams when they speed up the tempo either through style of play or full court pressure. Tre has been awful this year. He barely even looks to shoot when wide open. He has struggled in the little things like making solid passes into the post, on ball defense and constantly going underneath screens on shooters. There were times tonight in the 2nd half where he got the ball wide open and passed it without even looking to shoot. We need him because he is the fastest/quickest player on this team. He has to play so we can somewhat matchup with teams with very quick penetrating guards but he is not helping us right now in any way. It might be time to face the fact that we are not that good right now and we have a very very long way to go to even make the NCAA tournament.

Where's the disconnect between expected/perceived talent level and on-court performance?

No JT3 is not on the Hot Seat after this game. This is a ridiculous thread. This game was a horrible matchup for us, UCLA, USC and Notre Dame. The difference is we would get swept by this team in a 5 or 7 game series. This is just a horrible matchup for our team as constructed without Tre and PW contributing positively. I think PW could have helped tonight. Reggie and Derrickson struggled mightily with defending Monmouth off the bounce. I think PW could have helped with seeing the floor offensively and ball movement and defending Monmouth's wings off the dribble.

Time to hang out the help wanted sign. How odd that you never showed up here after we beat Wisconsin and Syracuse, and fought to the buzzer with Duke and UMD. Or maybe not so odd.

Where's the disconnect between expected/perceived talent level and on-court performance? I do not think that anyone would have fathom losses to Radford & Monmouth with a returning DSR and the the best recruiting class of the JTIII era. Now people are saying we are not that good or we have over estimated the talent... Either way you cut it...whose fault is that?? In the beginning of the year and last year, poster were talking about Peak, Ike and PW going pro early. Now, month later those talks are gone. Monmouth players looked more athletic than the Hoyas tonight...how is that possible with NBA level talent on the team??

Paul White should have played tonight! Very unselfish player who generates offense. Why no minutes when Hoyas have won all the games he has played? Elite talent! What a waste to be on the sidelines!

Given how highly regarded many of our recruits have been out of high school, how can it be that we are not that good? Where's the disconnect between expected/perceived talent level and on-court performance? Based on players who are actually getting significant playing time, this team is very very young in terms of on court experience. DSR, LJ and Copeland are the only players with any major experience. LJ can't get stay out of foul trouble. PW isn't playing for some reason. As well as Hayes has played so far this year, he is relatively very inexperienced in game experience. Reggie barely played last season and struggled mightily as a freshman that he eventually got benched. The freshman are freshman and Tre is struggling big time. You basically have 2 players with significant experience and a 3rd who it seems starts the game with 3 fouls. So this team is making a ton of mistakes in crucial times and struggles to defend pick n roll and dribble penetration. It will be very difficult to improve against dribble penetration and pick n roll in practice because we have no one who can simulate those actions because we lack any on our roster with these attributes in their game.
