Sounds like a nice gut. I took a few of those in college.

Tap dance is a course basketball players take at Georgetown? And as FRESHMEN? It sounds like the elective to end all electives.

I don't know why the official social media outlet of the basketball team needs to be trumpeting our players' enrollment in a joke class.

I don't know why the official social media outlet of the basketball team needs to be trumpeting our players' enrollment in a joke class. It's called Theater and the Catholic Imagination. FWIW, I took the Catholic Imagination when I was in school. It didn't have any theater component but it did, IIRC, satisfy a theology requirement.

That was about a min long? On campus. And I think I could learn that rutine in an hour. AND you could probably hide in the middle of you were self conscious.
AND GREG WHITTINGTON DIDNT SHOW UP FOR THIS TYPE OF THING?!?!
All the anger from a few years ago has come back.
Glad these kids took this course. Jesuits are about educating the whole person. Looks like a bunch of students worked together as a team in pursuit of a common goal. Seems fine to me. They still have to take math. Let them have this one.
There seems to be ZERO reason not to show up. Thanks Greg.

Tap dance is a course basketball players take at Georgetown? Probably helps their footwork! CtoC, I bet it does help! Way back in the day, Lynn Swann, HOF receiver for the Steelers when they won their 4 Superbowls in the 70s. He was the most graceful looking receiver I can remember. If I might add an additional point in response to some of the earlier posts in this thread, the only class I could find on the GU Course schedule that included tap and a performance is listed below. Anyone care to guess how many credits that class counts for? Here's the answer. ZEROIt sounds to me more like a fun opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of dance arts, meet more fellow students, and have some fun. Good for them. ------------------- Fall for 2015-2016 Spring for 2015-2016 Dance Faculty See listings below Credits: 0Prerequisites: None Sections: DANC-101-10 GU Dance Company Fall for 2015-2016 Spring for 2015-2016 Faculty: Parmer, Kimberly This course focuses on developing skills in dance technique, choreography and performance through participation as members of Georgetown Dance Company (GUDC). GUDC is a pre-professional concert repertory dance company performing works in classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, indigenous, hip hop, and tap. The course consists of 3 hours of technique class per week in either ballet or modern, and up to 12 hours per week of rehearsal. Choreography is created by student and professional guest choreographers. Dancers must attend at least two professional dance productions and provide a critical review of the technique. Auditions are held in September and performances are once per semester. courses.georgetown.edu/index.cfm?Action=View&CourseID=DANC-101

This is the class: CATH-200-01 Theater & Cath ImaginationFall for 2015-2016 Spring for 2015-2016 Faculty: Curry, Richard Theater has been a part of Jesuit education from the very beginning. This is no accident. The early Jesuits, like the Jesuits of today, recognized that theater could draw deeply from the resources of the Catholic imagination and speak powerfully about the mystery of human experience. They also knew that the demands of the theater were perfectly suited to helping students develop the skills of clear self expression that Jesuits refer to as "eloquentia perfecta." This course will enable students to learn about theater and the energy it derives from the Catholic imagination. We will learn by reading, but mostly we will learn by doing. No previous acting or other theater experience required. Credits: 3 Prerequisites: None

OK, it still doesn't sound like the most demanding class on campus, but clearly NOT a Tap Dance class as tweeted by the Voice.

If, as we were led to believe with the GW situation, that dance performance is the final exam, it certainly looks like a joke class. I don't have a problem with the players (or any other student) taking a freebie or two, but I don't know if we should be celebrating it. Think of the comments we would be making if a similar video was tweeted by the Syracuse AD.

No previous acting or other theater experience required. Credits: 3 Prerequisites: None Listen, this is a real, actual class. I am sure there are a bunch of other people in the class, including non-basketball players. This is not a fictional class (UNC), or a class whose final exam asks how many halves are in a college basketball game or how many points are scored on a three point shot (see Georgia PE exam, circa 2004). The point being, the class wasn't created or invented for athletes to get 100 and easily pass. Is it the hardest class Georgetown offers? No, but I bet both Govan and Kaleb Johnson have tougher classes. And, they are high major athletes and have the time commitments that come along with it. So, really, I think it's going overboard to criticize this. Recall, Govan is the guy who said he was going to take AP classes in his senior year of high school (something he surely could have avoided in the NYC public schools if he wanted to). And for those of you who went to Georgetown, did you pick your schedule based on the hardest ones offered? I did not, and most of the classmates I knew certainly did not either. You always went for a combination of what was interesting, good professors, and a few that might not be the hardest out there either. If you did pick the hardest classes possible, more power to you, but I think most non-athletes don't even do that. Now, if another school like Syracuse posted something similar, would we make fun of it? Maybe, but that's part of fandom. People need to stop taking everything so seriously.

Agreed, but with the difference being it would've been a course Syracuse offers, not GU. which is an entirely different story
