Anyone else think this guy may be the surprise of the season. I think III may have a hard time keeping him off the court.
He seems very tall. Listed at 6-6 but he seemed almost as tall as Whittington. Kaleb might be around 6-7 with long arms.
He seems like a Hollis/Trawick hybrid.
Good handles, active on the boards, can finish with authority (better than Hollis but probably not as good as Trawick), nice stroke, and is a heat seeking missile for every loose ball. He's more athletic than advertised. A glue guy but also with high skill level.
In fact the best unit might be: DSR, Peak, Kaleb Johnson, Copleand, Govan (even though I don't like Copleand at the 4).
This kid may put us over the top this year. The final piece or ingredient.

I'm thinking more Trawick/Bowen hybrid. He's not the shooter that Hollis was.
That lineup isn't one that needs someone super polished, a glue guy will help. Although it'll be hard to supplant White though since his facilitating will be useful to that lineup.
A lineup of Tre, Peak, Kaleb, White, Govan/Agau/Hayes will be a hell of a tornado though.
He's a great late signing.

Matching Hollis as a 3pt shooter of course is a tall task but 43% in high school isn't bad. He also defensive rebounds like Hollis when Hollis was playing power forward. He's a little more explosive than Hollis and seems like he has a better no step vertical.

Love those guys and we never seem to have enough of 'em. I love these last two classes.

The College line is also further back than HS. Everything I've seen says shooting will not be his forte day one. He might grow into a decent shooter but if he shows that next year that would be a pretty decent surprise... Agree with everything else, definitely sneaky athletic and very long so he can catch kids slippin. Had a pretty sick dunk on Killeya Jones this year. He's all left right now though, BE coaches will scout that so he's going to have to work hard on his off hand. Still if you let him get left he's hard to stop similar to Jones from Butler (Going right)

No doubt but they're different players just referencing a player who everybody in the gym knows is going one way yet still manages to be effective..

Pretty impressive for a freshman to be that good defensively during the preseason. I agree, gonna be a favorite Hoya!

I hope that means that Johnson is a Boubacar clone (PLEASE) and not that the rest of the team is average or worse on defense. Peak is a pretty darn good defender, though, so if Johnson is better than him (or even close at this point), he is going to be a good one.

In either case, it's great to hear when a freshman is putting in the work on the defensive end. This team will need that contribution without a doubt.

Yeah, I'm not sure the bar is super high on this team to be the best defender. Peak is probably the closest thing to a plus defender among returnees. DSR has improved a lot from his freshman year, may be slightly above average as a defender at this point. Campbell and Cameron are below average defenders. Copeland can block shots and is long, but his lack of strength probably keeps him from being a really good defender at this point. White seems pretty average defensively. Word on Derrickson and Govan is that they are likely to be further along offensively than defensively. Hayes fouls a ton and we haven't really seen much of him in three years, though it seems like he's a pretty good shot blocker. Anyway, long winded way of saying that Kaleb being the best defender isn't really going that far out on a limb by Rothstein.

It's not what Rothstein thinks though, he's relaying what JT3 is telling him(I have to assume it's JT3). Whether he's the best of a bad bunch shouldn't matter anyway, I'm glad to hear the kid is making an impression on the staff..

Could be 2 Top 10ish and deep classes in a row if Govan, Derrickson, and Kaleb meet their recently elevated expectations.
Top caliber back to back recruiting classes usually translates to good things. Very pumped to hear that Derrickson and Kaleb appear ready to contribute from Day 1 as frosh [and have always assumed that Govan will be a day 1 starter].
