A lot of times people ask if JT3 could get hired if he left Georgetown. If Johnny Dawkins can get hired immediately after being fired after several seasons with no success, it's pretty clear JT3's prospects would be pretty good.

Plus, there's the Duke connection. What was he getting paid? What will UCF pay him? I think JT3 would get hired somewhere else for a lot less than he is making now.

As of 2011, Dawkins was reportedly making about $1 million a year. He had received a contract extension in 2014, though, after making the NCAA tournament the single time. Given that, and the passage of 5 years, I am guessing he was somewhere in the mid 1 millions.

Pitt board a great read right now as they meltdown on news they'll apparently being hiring Kevin Stallings: pittsburgh.forums.rivals.com/forums/basketball-board.26/I'd tend to agree with their fans that this hire isn't exactly inspiring. I'd rather get somebody thats an up-and-comer at a mid or low major than someone who has established himself as mediocre at a high major over a number of years. At least that way you have some hope. Hard to not see this as a downgrade for them. They are definitely in danger of getting Boston College'd in their new league. I just don't think that job is as attractive today, when it's harder to recruit kids from NYC and the northeast. If I'm a good young coach, why would I want to go to a league where I know that in the long run I'm generally not going to be able to surpass Duke, UNC, Syracuse or Louisville, and maybe even ascendant UVA most years, and I have to dog fight it out with teams like Miami, NC State or Tech to finish 6th and get into the dance? It just doesn't seem that attractive anymore. And while I certainly think Georgetown needs to be open to the possibility that JT3 is not the right guy for the job if next season doesn't go well, the Pitt search sort of shows what can happen if you cast aside a coach who has been "pretty good" because you're hoping you'll land someone better. I don't think Kevin Stallings is where their AD thought they'd end up, and I can see them trending hard toward mediocrity or worse. Their fans were all hoping Dixon would leave because they thought they'd land a young stud, and instead they got Kevin Stallings. Something similar happened with NC state some years back when Herb Sendek had been a solid but uninspiring coach and the State fans thought they could do better. So they ousted him and ended up with Sidney Lowe who was a disaster. I still think that if next season looks like this one that it's time for us to move in another direction and hope for the best, but there are definitely scenarios where letting go of a coach who has established himself as "good but not great" leads to getting someone who is awful, and we need to prepare ourselves for that possibility.

RBHoya is spot on with his analysis of what happened at Pittsburgh (and their board is quite the read right now!) and what might happen at Georgetown. "Be careful what you ask for, because you just might get it."

Chris Beard, who oversaw a 17-game turnaround this season at Arkansas-Little Rock, has agreed in principle to be head coach at UNLV. I am not sure what agrees in principle is, but the NMState coach withdrew his name after Cronin of Cincy turned UNLV down.
