Do you leave open the possibility that such racist invective, hatred and willingness to so act are prima facie evidence that he is mentally ill ? Just wondering? I don't think so. Does that mean that anyone who kills because of a belief that the majority doesn't hold but a string minority does are mentally ill? Was bin Laden and the rest of the crew who committed 9/11 prima facie mentally ill? I never like to speak as to "anyone". What I am saying is that this one guy may or may not be mentally ill. I don't know as of now. What I do know is that it does not raise the dead or comfort the grieving to rush into a classification of this horror right now. As for bin Laden and his crowd, I have serious doubts about any man who wants to kill himself to be rewarded with virgins. If I was going to off myself, I'd be looking for someone who could show me a good time...

Great question. Is alcoholism a choice? My suggestion is simply that this guy may be so mentally ill that rational choice is not capable. I don't know if this guy is closer to the Klan or the asylum. Time and facts will tell.

I say hate crime. He did put out a LONG manifesto "justifying" his racist views, which includes comments on how Jews, Hispanics and East Asians can help and hurt white people. He also made racist comments as he was shooting the 9 victims, and told one of the survivors, "I'm Going To Let You Live So You Can Tell Everyone What Happened Here." Here's his manifesto lastrhodesian.com/data/documents/rtf88.txt

Not sure how this is different from what ISIS does. Murdering completely innocent people because they are different then you. This is one very upsetting crime and one very pathetic little loser. From a legal standpoint, not close to mentally ill....certainly full understood the nature and consequences of his actions.

I found an interesting video and article in which a black friend/drinking buddy of Dylann Roof named Christon Scriven mentions that Dylann told him that he was going to "Hurt A Bunch Of People At The College Of Charleston." He said that Dylann couldn't get into the College of Charleston because of the security, so he settled for the church. He also described Dylann as troubled and confused because he "alternated between partying with black friends and ranting against blacks to his white friends." In the video, Christon Scriven says about Dylann, "I've Never Heard Him Say Anything Racist," The nonchalant attitude of Christon Scriven in the video is a bit upsetting to me considering the horrific that Dylann Roof committed, but maybe you can chalk it up to him being young and in shock about what has happened. news.yahoo.com/man-accused-church-killings-spoke-attacking-college-070747803.html?#

I am conflicted about this story. It truly bothers me that this embodiment of evil, who had accomplished absolutely nothing positive in his life (from all I have read) is now one of the most famous people in the country. He is famous for something horrific, but each day his picture is shown and stories are written, I believe he feels good about himself. Sadly, I cannot stop reading stuff about him.

Yeah, I figure the reason he told one of the survivors, "I Want You To Live So You Can Tell Everyone What I Did" is so his name can go down in infamy. Fortunately, they have laws that prevent these Pieces Of Garbage from being interviewed and gaining even more fame/followers by trolling the stupid interviewers like Charles Manson did several times. Eventually society will forget about him.
Reports say he dropped out of school after 9th grade. He's 21 now and said that he was unemployed during his court appearance yesterday. If you do the math, he's probably spent the past 5 or 6 years going aimlessly(on and off relationship with his family, getting drunk and high all the time, crashing his friends trailer home, getting arrested, developing a racist mindset) through life!! No wonder his uncle said, "He's Gonna Get What's Coming To Him"!! His uncle knew he was no good and hopeless.

The sad part is that Dylann Roof's behavior was being monitored and encouraged....someone is taking the pictures of him with the Confederate Flag and standing on/burning the American Flag.

Oh, so you mean like most racist, cowardly POS's, he didn't have the balls to say anything openly racist in front of black people that might've knocked some sense into him that means the jury is still out despite the overwhelming tidal wave of evidence - including his own words - that this was a hate crime? Right. Believe what you want, I honestly couldn't care less. My days of trying to talk reasonably with white folks about race in this country are over.

HA! That's definitely a possibility when you consider Christon Scriven actually said about Dylann in the video, "I Don't Look At Him Any Differently Today, Then I Did Last Week"!! So his "friend" KILLS 9 PEOPLE in a church after sitting in bible study with the victims for about an hour, and his feelings towards him remain the same...WOW!!! The article mentions that Dylann, Christon Scriven and another friend Joey Meek all got drunk at Scriven's house, Dylann showed them the gun and said he was going to kill people at the College of Charleston, Scriven and Meek decided to take the gun and hide it at Meek's trailer, but Meek's girlfriend told them to get rid of it because Meek is on probation, so they gave the gun back to Dylann!! That sounds like a scenario from every teen/young adult drug and party movie that's ever been made!! At least Scriven and the rest of that motley crew now feel guilty about giving the gun back to Dylann. It's good that we can see a sliver of rational thought with them.

PSA for people in the majority crying racism sexism or whatever to a minority is usually tone deaf. Think about it this way if someone who was poor told you they were in danger of losing their house because of financial difficulties would you respond I hear you, last week my wife and I traded in the 7 series for the 5 series to make ends meet?

Reading comprehension does appear to be an issue, huh, Deacon? I feel your pain. From today's NYTimes Magazine: www.nytimes.com/2015/06/19/magazine/white-terrorism-is-as-old-as-america.html?smid=fb-share&_r=0"Media outlets have been reluctant to classify the Charleston shooting as terrorism, despite how eerily it echoes our country’s history of terrorism. American-bred terrorism originated in order to restrict the movement and freedom of newly liberated black Americans who, for the first time, began to gain an element of political power. The Ku Klux Klan Act, which would in part, lawmakers hoped, suppress the Klan through the use of military force, was one of America’s first pieces of antiterrorism legislation. When it became federal law in 1871, nine South Carolina counties were placed under martial law, and scores of people were arrested. The Charleston gunman’s fears — of black men raping white women, of black people taking over the country — are the same fears that were felt by Klansmen, who used violence and intimidation to control communities of freed blacks."

Dog comment was uncalled for but If you think that's racism police brutality must make your blood boil, or systemic discrimination in hiring and promotion, or politicians using racist languages, or the uneven incarceration rate and punishment lengths for minorities vs whites, or states flying the flag of a traitor nation whose economy was based on enslaving people, or the presidents wife being called his baby momma on TV by a news organization.
In fact I'd love for you to point out to me some of the posts where you expressed outrage at these events.
