Razor edge of difference between the two teams, but the Royals' experience from last year might have been the difference. I hope this talented pitching staff of the Mets is supported in the future -- if so, the Mets could be contenders for a while. Congrats to the Royals. Glad it wasn't a team I hated beating my team. I'm obviously biased, but I don't think there's a razor's edge of difference between the teams, and I don't say that because it was 4-1 series win for the Royals. The games were close; the teams were not. KC had the better offense, better bullpen, better fielding (obviously) and better baserunning. The Mets had the better starting pitching, but the edge wasn't as decisive as it looked when the Series started. The Mets should be good for a while with that starting staff, but this year there was no denying the Royals. Some more crazy stats: - In this postseason, the Royals scored 51 runs after the sixth inning. They allowed 11 runs after the sixth inning in this postseason.
- The Royals scored 40 runs in 8th inning or later in playoffs. No other team had more than 5
To me, the question is whether the Mets team that smoked the Cubs just cooled off at the wrong time or whether the Mets looked far worse because of KC. Probably a little bit of both, but I don't think the KC pitching is that dominant that guys like Murphy, Cespedes, etc. shouldn't be able to him them. They just cooled off at the wrong time. KC's hitting and fielding, on the other hand, was just on a 'whole 'nother level.' Damn good team.

Man, you are cruel. And I hate the Mets. I wasn't trolling (honest). I just thought the photo does a great job capturing the reactions of the Mets fans at that exact moment (Mets fans in primo sets BTW).

If it's even possible, the Royals' performance in the playoffs this year is an even greater testament to the quality of Madison Bumgarner's performance last season in the Series. It seems to me that the Royals pretty much played the same in the playoffs this year as last year - except when they faced Bumgarner, who they couldn't touch at all (except for that triple that just might have been an inside the park home run).

I meant this particular series in general -- The Mets could have won the Series themselves 4-1 if not for a few plays, and that's baseball for you -- once the Mets lost their leads late, the chances of the Royals winning games went wayyy wayyy up because of their much superior bullpen. I do agree that this was the Royals' year. They made the plays in the post season the Mets team made from August until 2 weeks left in the regular season. The Mets then gutted it out to get to the World Series, but they never captured their terrific second half form. And I don't put it past the Wilpons to even screw up this Mets team, which should be good for a while with such good young arms (i hope a few can be converted to the bullpen, and then the team might really be in business).

Look out for the Nats next year. Really hope we don't wet the bed again next season. I would still think the Nats should be the favorite for the division next year. I do think the Mets have closed the talent gap (and now have the edge in starting pitching), but the right moves have to be made in the offseason for the Mets to be considered favorites over the Nats.

Big off season for the Nats as well, CD. Given the number of free agents the Nats have, combined with the fact that some players won't be brought back, the team will be quite different next year. As much as I hate to admit it, the Mets were just better this year, especially down the stretch. I view you guys as serious competition for supremacy in the division, and that makes me nervous.

Bats get a huge boost by removing that dolt Williams. They will also be out to redeem themselves for this season's spineless debacle. That said, with a couple of decent moves and health of the young guns, Mets should be very tough.

Didn't really care which one the Nationals picked as their manager, but the Lerners have made this an embarrassment anyway. That's impressive. The rest of the National League is going to be loaded against whomever wins the East next year. The Cubs, Cardinals, Pirates, Dodgers and Giants aren't likely to fall apart any time soon.
