Anyone who thinks that the Dodgers are a lock to even win tonight is crazy. Greinke has had an unbelievable year, but the fact is that DeGrom outpitched both Greinke and Kershaw head to head this year. I don't think the Dodgers have scored against him. I'm hoping they'll eke out a 1-0 win. My guess is that kc is referring to the Royals, not the Dodgers. He was referring to the fact that everyone left wears blue.

Nice to see tough guy Utley weakly fly out to lead the Dodger fizzle in the 9th. Even better to see the best team Magic's money can buy fail in the playoffs again (sorry 'rooter). Cubs-Mets will be a compelling series.

The brain dead nature of the Dodgers starts w Mattingly. Great player but simply hideous on the bench. His post game interview revealed much when he was not sure why no one covered, or even who was to cover. Do they not practice these things?
One also wonders why Ethier did not let D'Arnaud's ball drop foul. Count would have been 0-2 and Greinke was handling the Mets well at that point. Instead he catches clearly foul ball where he has zero chance to throw Murphy out at the plate.
Mets/Cubs should be fun with the power arms of NY against the young stud hitters on the Cubs. Throw in Arrieta and his dominance and this should be great fun.

Throw in Arrieta and his dominance and this should be great fun. The "drop the foul ball" one is interesting. I'm not sure there's a right answer. On the one hand are the points you mention. But on the other hand are the fact that it was "only" to tie the game, was only the 4th inning, and there were runners on 1st and 3rd (such that there is legitimate fear for a big inning with, say, a double). Maybe I would have dropped it, but I don't think it was brain dead (or even wrong) to catch it. As to the steal by Murphy, Mattingly began by suggesting it should have been the SS, but then he stopped himself, probably not wanting to call out a very young player publicly. Regardless, it almost surely should have been the SS. The kid was called up at the very end of the year. They surely don't spend a lot of time practicing anything during the season, and he wouldn't have been involved in whatever they did in the spring. So, it's easy to see where this would fall through the cracks. And all that said, for all we know he was told specifically -- and just didn't do it. You also saw Kendrick, before the at-bat, tell Greinke that Greinke had to cover third on a steal, so the Dodgers clearly were on top of the issue generally.

Of course, a well managed team knows to simply call time out after a walk in that situation and remove the possibility. This was more egregious than Damon's steal vs Philadelphia in 2009 because that was off alive ball and a throw..
Dodgers are poorly managed mishmash with a lot of high priced talent and almost zero cohesion. Once Justin Turner goes back on the Lucky Charms box and stops impersonating a credible MLB star they will be even more ordinary.
Finally, hitting a clearly shot Utley for Pederson bordered on criminal stupidity given the need for a long ball.

Not reflected here yet, though, is that the Dodgers stank in the clutch from May on, and it came back to bite them in the kiester last night. After the two RBI singles, they were 0-11 with RISP. They had plenty of chances, and couldn't do diddly, and ended up getting beat by some guy who must have sold his soul to Mr. Applegate prior to the start of the series. They hit about 40 points lower this year with RISP than otherwise, and that's despite a very hot April.

I think it was more that the Royals played their game. And Bautista did a great job throwing his teammate under the bus. What a d-bag. Stay classy Jose.

And that's the problem. If the outfielder charging in can make the play, it's his play to make. Bautista's comments are a much smaller problem than the fact that, apparently, he doesn't know that. It's his ball. He should have been the one calling off the 2nd baseman.

It was clear from watching the video that Goins thought he heard Bautista/someone call him off at the last second.

Nice to see those "oh so loyal" Cub fans streaming out the gates while the game is still being played.
I am so tired of hearing these fans lionized. Their team loses a lot. Great. Try staying for the whole game even if you are about to be swept.

In fairness, Vadie, the Mets ripped out their hearts in the first two innings. I was actually surprised that the majority of the Cubs' fans stayed as long as they did. It wasn't as bad as the Nationals' fans streaming out of the ballpark after each loss to the Mets in early September.
Instead of criticizing Cubs fans, let's celebrate as Mets fans. I still can't believe that they swept this series. I'm going to enjoy this ride while it lasts, because this team's best days have yet to come.

I have less against Cub fans than I do against the knee-jerk idiots in the media that always opt for the lazy, easy story or report.
That said, pouring through the exits in the 8th inning is a bad look and a bad showing by these "wonderfully loyal fans".
