Met pitchers need to ignore stats and pitch. Syndergaard is best when throwing gas and should do just that. His first pitch should buzz Escobar's tower at 100 just to say hello. Then he should mix pitches as he always does. If the Royals beat him so be it, but he needs to pitch to his strength and see if it is enough. No blood yet in this series but to call this a must game for the Mets is a gross understatement. Does anyone else picture Elvado chomping on a cigar stump and hammering away at his typewriter as he bangs out his posts. Old school, man. Without a doubt, the nicest thing ever said about my posts...

For all of their spunk and tough guy bravado, the Royals sound like a bunch of whiny bitches this morning.
Just one little fact check for the Midwesterners: the ball did not hit him. Syndergaard backed him off with a ball that did not hit him.
And all of this from a team which employs both Herrera and Ventura and lead the league in bench clearing incidents. Shut up and play. Their own pitcher had a chance to react and Syndergaard got a hit off him.
This is still baseball.

The only way that ball ever hits him is if he 8 feet tall.
Your team is very good but any team that employs Herrera and Ventura has nothing to say about throwing at people.
Period.

He did not hit him and it was 18 inches over his head. Try winning with some grace Give one example of how they're not winning with grace. One. They complained about the Mets throwing at the head of the lead off batter. That's not winning without grace. Also, it's rich that you are the one talking about people acting without grace.

Actually, this little spat is interesting. Amazing how two people can see the same thing yet see them so differently! I'll just play politician and say that I see both sides of the argument.

I am not understanding all the praise for Syndergaard. He did not intimidate anyone. Six of the first ten batters got hits with an RBI ground out and a sacrifice bunt in there. The overturned play at third may have saved him from being knocked out of the game in the 2nd inning. The Mets won because they hit homers off Ventura, not because of Syndergaard's brush-back pitch. Even after he pitched well in the middle innings, Syndergaard was no more effective than Harvey. They both gave up 3 runs in 6 IP.

It's awfully quiet on this thread. What's everyone think? Royals win in five or in six? Five it is.

Congrats to a worthy champion. The better team clearly won this series. Razor edge of difference between the two teams, but the Royals' experience from last year might have been the difference. I hope this talented pitching staff of the Mets is supported in the future -- if so, the Mets could be contenders for a while. Congrats to the Royals. Glad it wasn't a team I hated beating my team.

I'm obviously biased, but I don't think there's a razor's edge of difference between the teams, and I don't say that because it was 4-1 series win for the Royals. The games were close; the teams were not. KC had the better offense, better bullpen, better fielding (obviously) and better baserunning. The Mets had the better starting pitching, but the edge wasn't as decisive as it looked when the Series started. The Mets should be good for a while with that starting staff, but this year there was no denying the Royals. Some more crazy stats: - In this postseason, the Royals scored 51 runs after the sixth inning. They allowed 11 runs after the sixth inning in this postseason.
- The Royals scored 40 runs in 8th inning or later in playoffs. No other team had more than 5

Clutch. Happy KC won, but was hoping for a longer series.
