We are really gonna have to hold strong through the second half, where they are averaging over 40 pts:
Second halves for Xavier:
vs Depaul 47-26 vs Providence 40-28 vs. Marquette 40-27 vs. Villanova 48-43 vs. Butler 45-54 vs Georgetown 39-28
First halves:
vs Depaul 42-50 vs Providence 20-32 vs. Marquette 22-31 vs. Villanova 27-45 vs. Butler 31-34 vs Georgetown 31-25

Hoyas have been a darn good second half team too. And we have won 6 of 7. Ready for some Payback!

Xavier has won just one of six true road games this season (at Missouri), and has lost five straight away from Cintas Center. Assuming that both Peak and Trawick are good to go on Tuesday, they will be extremely well rested (Peak just played five minutes; Trawick ten). With the short turn-around, that will be helpful. I'm figuring that form, vis-a-vis Xavier on the road, will hold. They are a much different team away from home.

Last year Hoyas lost @ Xavier by 13 and won the rematch by 22. This year we lost by 17. So we'll either win the rematch by 26 or 18. Not sure how that works yet.

Here's a summary of the key stats from first game: HOYAS shoot 2/13 from behind the 3pt. arc and Xavier goes 6/12; HOYAS shoot 17/25 from FT line and Xavier shoots 24/29; and Hoyas commit 16 turnovers to 10. Add the fact that Hopkins fouled out and Smith, Trawick and Peak each finished with four fouls and therein lies the statistical story to an ugly loss. Copeland also played 7 minutes.

1st game of season Very late on NY's Eve Hyper Hostile crowd Freshmen's first exposure to BE road games We got embarrassed Our guys have come a long way since then... think about Copes and Campbell especially. BTW, is this the same Josh Smith who looked so lackadaisical v. St. Francis in the first game of the year? What was it JT3 said? "Unacceptable" or something like that? Wow... has Josh turned things around. GU is a much better team than it was 4 weeks ago. Not to say this one will be easy. It is a BIG EAST game and we are quickly learning that nothing comes easy in the BE - unless we are playing Nova at home. I am expecting GU to come out ready -- prepared by Coaching staff, and psyched for some payback. HOYA SAXA!!

Xavier is 0-4 on the road in the conference to date. Lost at DePaul, Nova, Providence, and Butler, and the Butler and Nova games were not close.
Here's hoping an enthused crowd comes out pumped up by our top 25 ranking (which Xavier ruined once already this year).
I like that after the string of big wins we have a revenge game at home coming up. Seems really unlikely we would be unprepared or take this one for granted.

Well not to be a Debbie Downer, but a couple things concern me. First, I suspect Xavier is a bad matchup for Georgetown. Stainbrook did a good job against Smith last time and the Hoyas offense looked flustered in response. And second, how healthy are Peak, Trawick, and Bowen? I've seen the encouraging update that they will play, but I'm not sure how much confidence to have in that, and if they do play, will they be at 100%? Xavier will be tough to beat if the Hoyas are short-handed. I think it's reasonable to expect another nail-biter.

The guy who really killed us last time was Reynolds. He is a good looking player for them.

OK, this is a great job by Georgetown and Fox Sports with Jabril featured in promo for the game. "Astronauts are trained to be able to handle a minimum of 7Gs of force. The defense is going to have to train at least that hard to handle Jabril Trawick." Jabril AstronautSaw it during the Marquette game, GU athletics linked to it.

Listen my brothers. I used to believe that Hopkins couldn't hit clutch free throws, that DSR had lost his 3 point shot touch, that Josh Smith couldn't rebound or play D, that Isaac Copeland and Tre Campbell were a year away, that JT3 didn't know how to attack a 2-3 zone, that Nova would win the BE and that we would be lucky to make the NCCA tourney this year. BUT THOSE DAYS ARE OVER! Hear me when I say that my eyes are now open and I see the light! We are going to win the BE regular season and tourney. We are going to be a 2 seed in the NCAA. DSR will be BE player of the year, Copeland will be BE rookie of the year, JT3 will be BE coach of the year, and Hop will be BE defensive player of the year. DO I HEAR AN AMEN?! LIC DO I HEAR AN AMEN? And, BTW, last year's Hoyas beat Xavier at Verizon by 20 points. Enough said.

Don't you dare wish a 2 seed on us. Don't you put that evil on us.

I bet until the Butler/Nova games most of us shared most if not all of those beliefs. You saw it in the posts and in the sense of impending doom after the Providence game. I think we were all suffering from a 2014 team hangover and couldn't see that this new Hoya team is light years ahead of last year's.

It is worth noting that we're a couple of inches or shots away from being 4-4 in the Big East. I think this team is getting better everyday, and better than last year. But if Tre misses that shot against Butler or any one of a number of things happen against Marquette, we're not nearly as happy right now.
