Somewhat reminiscent of the 79-80 Heart Attack Hoyas... ...I've still got a Heart Attack Hoyas t-shirt kicking around in a drawer somewhere at home. Is that the team that lost to Iowa on the final shot of the game , in the Elite 8 in Philly? That was heartbreak. yes

Will this game be played tomorrow, considering the magnitude of the storm they are predicting (at least up in NYC)? Yes. There's nothing on the ground in DC right now (wet flakes have been alternating with rain), and by tomorrow morning, we'll have 2-3" at most.

Maybe. I might just be terrified of the crash this board will take if lose another game. (Look! I said "if"!) That would be silly. As important as it is to win at home, and as painful as it would be to lose at 0-7 Creighton, none of these next 3 games is easy and we haven't exactly modeled consistency in our games. I think SFHoya agrees with you that it would be silly. That doesn't mean it won't happen anyway

Will this game be played tomorrow, considering the magnitude of the storm they are predicting (at least up in NYC)? I can't see why not, unless the DC area forecast is way off. What I've read and seen reported suggests three inches -- at most -- overnight. Tuesday is supposed to be sunny by the afternoon. We should be good to go in the evening.

Did you really have to bring that up? Why don't you add that we had a 14 pt second half lead. And that with All American seniors Duren and Shelton soon to depart the Hilltop, our best hopes for a Final Four were dashed! And change your screen name to Debbie Downer. JK Please tell me that Kevin Boyle isn't posting as beenaround. I threw a shoe at my television set when that game ended. LOL! I was at that game at the Spectrum. The guys had just beaten the Twerps a couple days before, and JT decided to basically take the air out of the ball the final several minutes, leading to that final play. You are right...at the time, we thought we might never make it back to the Elite 8. I remember Ronnie Lester was dam good for Iowa.

And that with All American seniors Duren and Shelton soon to depart the Hilltop, our best hopes for a Final Four were dashed! And change your screen name to Debbie Downer. JK The picture on the front page of the sports section of the Post the next day showed Craig Shelton's hand stuck in the net/bent back as he came over to block the lay-up that turned into the winning 3 point play for Iowa...We had beaten MD in the regional semi two days before, and Iowa had knocked off Syracuse in the other eastern regional semi -- so we were on the verge of an incredible high. But... no.... Another tidbit is that the term "Heart Attack Hoyas" actually originated few years before, in '77-78, when in February the team came back at McDonough from 5 down/1 minute to play to beat a very tough Detroit team by one/snap Detroit's 13 game win streak (iconic photo in the Post of Shelton dunking over/fouling out Terry Tyler, their stud and future NBA forward); came back from 22 points down/10 minutes to play to beat Manhattan (remember, pre-3 point shot and shot clock); and most famously came back from 5 down/one minute to play to tie GW, then needed the Esherick 40 footer at the buzzer to tie again/then win 79-78 in OT. (Fun fact for you golfers: the star of the prior year's GW team/his brother Bob was still coach was Pat Tallent, who won the US Senior Amateur this year -- but he's still a tool...) The Post had an article around this time headlined "Pacemakers Ordered for the Hoya Faithful",invoking the by-then fairly well-known term "Heart Attack Hoyas" in recounting the run of incredibly close games... Now, I have to go yell at a bunch of kids to get off my lawn and not storm the court... Yes - my freshman year (77-78) was the genesis of the Heart Attack Hoyas. My shirt also says "#1 in the Big East" so it's from 79-80. All I remember about Ronnie Lester was.... DAMN.

I like to break the season into chunks of 4 games. The 6-2 conference record has exceeded my expectations big time. And I would say that if we go 3-1 over the next 4, we will convince almost everyone that we are a real threat to Big East title and high seed.
Also need to guard against the recent history of Georgetown basketball which is to peak in January/February, only to fall apart in March.
JTIII needs to really dig deep in his tool kit and figure out a way to keep everyone motivated and pushing through February and into March with the same focus and intensity.
Alas, I am jumping ahead a bit...

Well if either Peak or Trawick cannot play tomorrow or is at less than full speed, this game is going to be that much tougher. Xavier is a better team than Marquette and has the size in the middle to neutralize Smith. Not certain that Tre is up to 30-35 miunutes yet. I guess the rotation would be Tre, DSR and White with Bowen coming in as the only substitute. Another potential opportunity for Reggie perhaps, though I do not want to stir up that debate on this thread.

Alas, I am jumping ahead a bit... This isn't even accurate as the Cuse blowout at Verizon was in March, the 2008 and 2010 BE final runs were in March, etc. There are no guarantees come tournament time, and we have learned that if we can't defend consistently, we are in danger of being upset.

I have to highlight JTIII's quote at the end of his Xavier interview, "The great thing about this team is that the guys like each other. There is a sense of selflessness in that (they think) I'm just as happy for you if you're scoring..."
He also didn't sound that confident as to whether Trawick and Peak would play tomorrow. Left it completely up in the air as far as I could tell.

I wasn't even born then HA I must admit I was. That was a great game against Detroit in McDonough. I believe Dick Vitale had coached them the year before. IN addition to Terry Tyler they also had John Long....both guys played in the NBA for awhile. That win against a highly ranked team kind of put the country on notice that the Hoyas could ball. GUess its time for my nurse to put me to bed now!

Going to need a big game from Hopkins. Especially when they play Stainbrook and Reynolds together. Reynolds destroyed us last game and Hop was the only one who could guard him. He abused White last game and Isaac didn't play much, but I imagine he'll be too strong for Ike too. Need Hopkins to be available to guard Reynolds.
Last game we turned it over 16 times and shot 15% from 3. We were also massively in foul trouble Xavier shot 29 Fts and we had 4 players with 4 or more fouls. Hopefully get a more even whistle tonight, take care of the ball better as we have been and knock down some 3's.

HSB nail on head. Reynolds ate us alive last game. I hope a better performance by all and a similar result to last year.
