I bet until the Butler/Nova games most of us shared most if not all of those beliefs. You saw it in the posts and in the sense of impending doom after the Providence game. I think we were all suffering from a 2014 team hangover and couldn't see that this new Hoya team is light years ahead of last year's. It is worth noting that we're a couple of inches or shots away from being 4-4 in the Big East. I think this team is getting better everyday, and better than last year. But if Tre misses that shot against Butler or any one of a number of things happen against Marquette, we're not nearly as happy right now. I agree, and I keep telling myself that. And then I remember back to 2008, where it seemed like we should've lost so many games then too (last second foul in both Marquette and Nova, no goaltending call in WVU, which really could've gone either way). As cliche as it sounds, it seems like good teams tend to find ways to win and execute. On the flip side, it struck me on Saturday, that Marquette is like our team last year. A couple guys who need to go off in order to win.

Fair enough, but under that logic, we're also one Mikael Hopkins made FT in the Dunkin Donuts Center away from being 7-1 in conference (and nearing Top-10 in the country). Ultimately, all that counts is the final result when looking at what we've accomplished. When looking at how we're playing (or how well we might play in the next game), all of the continuing weaknesses or areas for improvement are certainly relevant. As for me, I'll happily take first place in the conference, and hope we can continue to improve on both our quality of play and our record while dealing some payback to a Xavier team with a worse road record than ours.

That's true, too. I'm not saying we're not good and I'm not saying we're not getting better. I still think there's a ton of upside to this team. But it's not like we're blowing everyone out, either. The emergence of Isaac Copeland has been pretty fantastic. Hopefully Paul can get out of his slump and the rest of the team can continue their recent performance.

True, but we are also a free throw (out of 6) and a couple made shots away from being 17-2 (7-1)and ranked in the top ten. The number of close games we have been in has been truly amazing - and stressful. And if you look at Pomeroy, we have a lot more of that to come in the next five weeks.

Somewhat reminiscent of the 79-80 Heart Attack Hoyas... ...I've still got a Heart Attack Hoyas t-shirt kicking around in a drawer somewhere at home.

We've pulled out some close wins, but I think we've earned them. Looking at kenpom, teams have shot an absurdly high FT percentage against us (only 7 teams have fared worse in this category than the Hoyas) which works against us in close games. I like the way this team is trending, and I'm growing more confident about their chances. It feels different than our last highly touted team in 2013, which I always felt walked the razor's edge and was too dependent on Otto (as fantastic as he was). This year's team is starting to be able to win a lot of different ways and looking like a dangerous group come March. Just defend the 3, please!

Copeland hit the shot against Butler and Tre helped us beat Marquette. Two freshmen we didn't have last year. And don't forget the Nova blowout. I realize I'm being slightly optimistic but we have so many more tools than we've had in a while. We easily beat Xavier and Providence at home and squeak by Creighton on the road. Nova and Butler away will be tough but if we win one of those I think we are a lock For BE Title.

These games are all going to be intense. The Creighton game is the only left against a team that doesn't have a realistic prospect of making the NCAA tournament. (DePaul is obviously far-fetched.)

We're no more than a 3/4 point favorite or dog in most of these games so they're expected to be close. Still second in the league in scoring margin so it seems pretty consistent where the Hoyas' record lands. The conference is just very tight.

Why don't you add that we had a 14 pt second half lead. And that with All American seniors Duren and Shelton soon to depart the Hilltop, our best hopes for a Final Four were dashed! And change your screen name to Debbie Downer. JK

Am I deluding myself in thinking that we are just as good as Villanova? I continue to refuse to believe that they are a top 10 team and as a result suspect that we are effectively equals.

And change your screen name to Debbie Downer. JK The picture on the front page of the sports section of the Post the next day showed Craig Shelton's hand stuck in the net/bent back as he came over to block the lay-up that turned into the winning 3 point play for Iowa...We had beaten MD in the regional semi two days before, and Iowa had knocked off Syracuse in the other eastern regional semi -- so we were on the verge of an incredible high. But... no.... Another tidbit is that the term "Heart Attack Hoyas" actually originated few years before, in '77-78, when in February the team came back at McDonough from 5 down/1 minute to play to beat a very tough Detroit team by one/snap Detroit's 13 game win streak (iconic photo in the Post of Shelton dunking over/fouling out Terry Tyler, their stud and future NBA forward); came back from 22 points down/10 minutes to play to beat Manhattan (remember, pre-3 point shot and shot clock); and most famously came back from 5 down/one minute to play to tie GW, then needed the Esherick 40 footer at the buzzer to tie again/then win 79-78 in OT. (Fun fact for you golfers: the star of the prior year's GW team/his brother Bob was still coach was Pat Tallent, who won the US Senior Amateur this year -- but he's still a tool...) The Post had an article around this time headlined "Pacemakers Ordered for the Hoya Faithful",invoking the by-then fairly well-known term "Heart Attack Hoyas" in recounting the run of incredibly close games... Now, I have to go yell at a bunch of kids to get off my lawn and not storm the court...

Are we just: "As good as Nova"? What kind of question is that BigDog?!?!? Clearly, you ARE deluding yourself. Some Nova fan must have spiked your ... adult beverage. No, we are not just "as good as Nova". We are BETTER! And we are on an upward trajectory as the season unfolds! Just don't let any more Wildcats put anything in your drinks. Here....have a glass of this Kool-aid instead!

As important as it is to win at home, and as painful as it would be to lose at 0-7 Creighton, none of these next 3 games is easy and we haven't exactly modeled consistency in our games.

Will this game be played tomorrow, considering the magnitude of the storm they are predicting (at least up in NYC)?

One game at a time. Beat Xavier. We had our worst game of the season against them on New Year's Eve, and appropriately got our asses handed to us. I think they're a good but not great team, and a much different team away from home (as stated, 1-5 on the road, and 0-4 in Big East). This is a game we should win - I do not want to get swept by the Mouseketeers. Another game to prove what we're made of, and hopefully a good home crowd follows our last two thrilling games at Verizon and our new #21 ranking. Go Hoyas.
