This one was for you, Big Dog.
I don't know how we won this game. We played most of the game down two starters, against a team that lit it up for most of the game. And then we lost Bowen to boot. And DSR failed to score in the second half. And still we prevailed. Just a huge win on the road. Epic.
Josh was great, Copeland was great, Tre was great. And 11-12. There is absolutely no question that we lose today if Hopkins is shooting his season percentage.

That arena was cursed today. brandon Jennings broke his leg or tore his Achilles slipping in the bucks NBA game a couple hours after the hoyas game.

John Gasaway @johngasaway 8h8 hours ago In the OT loss to Georgetown, Marquette recorded its best shooting in a Big East game in almost 2 years (3/2/13): 62.3 eFG%.

I am sincerely looking forward to the next 3 1/2 years of Tre Campbell. I still remember one poster saying that Tre looked like a nice backup point guard for George Mason. The guy has a lot of things going for him...his shot, his speed, defense, etc.; but the one thing that really impresses me about him is his confidence out on the floor. He knows he belongs and he is not out there just to give DSR a breather. Campbell wasn't asked to score much at St. Johns and was great at just managing the team and running the point. I think his shooting has surprised a lot of people. Some probably thought he was too small for the Big East too, but he's been just fine. I always thought he could compete at this level, but I predicted it would take a couple seasons for him to develop. What he's doing right now is very eye opening.

People thought 6'2" 170 was too little to play PG in the Big East?

That poster was comparing Tre to Melo Trimble - he was upset that Hoyas did not really pursue Trimble and picked up Tre instead. Not to mention Tre got destroyed by Trimble in high school. and Trimble is playing pretty damn good right now. Tre is a solid player though - definitely more than a backup point guard for Mason - I can see him either starting for us in two years or continue to come off the bench as our first backup guard.

...The thing to remember here, though, is that we still haven't seen this team hit on all cylinders yet. It will happen, and it will be glorious. Really? Wish I hadn't already erased my recording of the Villanova game, 'cause now I want to rewatch the first half to make sure I saw what seemed to me was as complete a performance by the Hoyas since the 2013 Syracuse dismantlings. If what we did to the 'Cats wasn't hitting on all cylinders, Lord help the CBB world if we can improve on that!

Josh just sucked up every rebound. He was tired and still grabbed them all with several Marquette players hanging on him like remoras. Loved it.
Hop has found his groove. Is he headed for All BE Defensive team?

Not enough being said about DSR's g-fense against Carlino - refs said he was being hounded by the whole GU team, but for the most part, after the hot start and Peak and 'bril going out, DSR drew the assignment and really kept Carlino off his shot for meaningful stretches. He has never gotten much respect for his D but I think yesterday we saw one of the most complete games by a guard, on d, dishing out a 5-1 asst-to ratio and raining responsive rainbow jumpers as well. Kid is a monster.

Agree. I hadn't really noticed DSR defensively in the past, but in the 1st half, I watched DSR and Carlino with DSR slowing him down significantly.

You are not the 1st person who has assumed that, I'm gonna have to change my avatar. You aren't bill O'Reilly are, lol. A female with a Beyonce avatar would seem more odd than a male, one would think. 2/3 of a day late to this response but actually....no. Bunch of women worship Beyonce and therefore would use her as an avatar like guys would their favorite athlete....or Benjamin Sisko.

Can I just hit the "thumbs up" button and have it apply to every single post in this thread? I probably shouldn't be this happy after they beat a pretty mediocre Marquette team...but the Bradley center, winning despite injuries, taking sole possession of 1st place, Hop going 11-12, etc, etc, etc.. I have a paper I'm supposed to be writing. It's just not happening. I'm old and single. I'll write the paper for you.

Still can't believe the boys pulled that game out with everything that they were going up against. Unbelievable resiliency. Honestly, isn't this exactly what we were hoping for from some of the past teams? Man, I hope they continue on this trajectory...

Thing about him is he's quicker than any guard JTIII's had. His defense is good too.

I am still trying to wrap my mind around how we prevailed in that epic battle. So far, I have not seen any really adequate analysis, either. If I am overlooking something of this nature, forgive me and--please, re-post. Thanks!

Kid is a monster. Just to repeat what I said last week--maybe no one on this board is paying attention--coming out of high school, DSR was given a bad rap for his inability/unwillingness to play defense. He was seen as a ball hog. What we are seeing is the evolution of a basketball player who can and is adapting his game to whatever it is he has to do to help his team win. Is that not the true mark of a team player? Also, DSR is playing with an extremely high level of confidence right now, making steals, stripping the ball, shooting the 3s, whatever.
