Hard to judge overall Euro performance quite yet. Some of those remaining teams have a serious shot to move forward especially, unfortunately, Belgium.

Every cup one or two european powers fails to move on. Can't ever recall a cup with 4 teams as celebrated as those 4 being bounced.
More noteworthy is the fact that almost 20% of the Round of 16 is comprised of CONCACAF teams. A great cup for the Americas for sure, but a fantastic effort from the northern weak sister confederation.
I actually have not been impressed with Belgiums on field results thus far. Holland and Germany look to be the only european threats to take this thing. Still like Colombia and Chile better than anyone except the Dutch. (I measuring by results of the fist three games rather than talent/history.)

Belgium is very likely the least formidable of the Euro teams still in play. Their record thus far is primarily the result of a very weak group. If Altidore makes it back to give Dempsey some help up front, we certainly have a solid chance.

Belgium is certainly better than Greece and has several top flight players from the EPL and La Liga including a fabulous goaltender in Courtois.

But Belgium still is far less intimidating than Germany, France or Netherlands. We are of course underdogs, and have to figure out a way to tighten the defense and get Bradley to be less timid, but it is still a game we can win. Now Argentina would be another matter . . .

Awesome win by Costa Rica! The country is going crazy! Going down to 10 men with more than an hour to go and still pull it off was great to see.

Too bad for Mexico... what a heartbreak! They played too defensively after their goal. With an offensive machine like Netherlands, it was just a matter of time. BTW, too me it looked like the penalty call was correct with Rafa M. stepping on Robben's foot.
CONCACAF almost went 2-0 vs. UEFA! Let's make it 2-1 in favor of CONCACAF with the US win.

It probably was a foul on Robbins out on the pitch, there was some contact; the defender extended his leg, and Robbins' foot caught the defenders foot; however Robbins greatly exaggerated the contact, and had already taken an admitted dive earlier, so at that stage of the game it is a questionable call at best. That being said, after the Snider goal tied it up, Mexico was never going to hold them off for 30 minutes of extra time, so it probably did not matter.

I thought there was a foul on the Mexico defender, although the refs let several similar plays go earlier in the match. I am sorry to see our neighbors to the south and their coach explode into the chorus of blaming the officials after the loss. Perhaps the Mexicans should be the ones wearing orange.

I heard a soccer commentator on radio last week say that there has never been a South American team that lost any soccer game that was not blamed on the referee. Perhaps Mexico has learned its lessons?

Considering how the CONCACAF final round went for Mexico, I actually thought they had a great tournament and looked more like a team than in their recent history.

The arms were an exaggeration, but the stepping on the foot was Marquez's fault. I've listened to some Mexican radioheads and some even mention that Robben dragged his foot to catch Marquez's foot. Bottom line: Marquez put himself in a position for the ref to call the penalty by stepping on Robben's foot. Not the first time that MArquez has done something similarly stupid in a FIFA tournament...
