Blatter wins it after Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan withdraws. As SirSaxa pointed out, Blatter would have won anyway.

You guys are assuming that when this all shakes out FIFA will still just be a few bitter guys who are Blatter loyalists rather than a group of voting members in a un-rigged election voting for BY FAR the most logical candidate for a short-notice replacement. FINANCIAL TIMES Friday May 29 2015 BREAKING NEWS Voting for Fifa president goes to second round Incumbent Blatter gets 133 votes and challenger Ali 73. Winner needed two-thirds majority in week of scandal and arrests. In second round, a winner will need just a clear majority-------------------- Blatter only needs 51% in the second round. Looks like a slam dunk to me. All those Blatter loyalists appear to be voting pretty much as predicted. And this is exactly why I can't buy into thebin's optimism. The US can only do so much. Their investigation is centered on corruption involving media rights deals in the Americas where there's a connection to the US (Banks and whatnot), which ended up getting 15-ish people indicted. That doesn't even come close to cleaning up our own region. When bin Hammam was running for FIFA president last time, he bribed 50 carribean country heads for $40k cash each (for a total of $2M). While one person blew the whistle, the rest didn't and most are still part of the FIFA structure. After the current arrests, there were rumors that the Caribbean federations might not vote for Blattner this time, not because he was crooked, but that he distanced himself and didn't publicly support the arrested caribbean officials enough after their arrest. While their might be more CONCACAF arrests, there's dozens of caribbean federations with crooked officials, and you can't arrest them all, and they run and will always run CONCACAF by sheer numbers. Also, the African and Asian federations haven't been mentioned at all yet, and they're just as (if not more) corrupt than CONCACAF. Literally, the only chance for change in FIFA is to put $s at risk. External pressure on sponsors is important, but FIFA in the past has always been able to easily replace leaving sponsors with new ones that don't mind the stench. The other possibility is a UEFA boycott of the WC. A WC without Europe is not a draw and will have broadcasters demanding heavy money back (much like Fox concessions for a Winter WC in 2022). The question is does UEFA have the will to go through with it. The fact that Platini is even raising it as a possibility means there's a least a chance, but I doubt a boycott would ever occur.

Oh I fully expect him to be re-voted in today. The dominoes have only just begun to fall, this election is meaningless.
I'm not particularly optimistic. Have you been reading the press around the world about this event? This US action has been WILDLY applauded by soccer fans and sports media all around the world. More indictments are coming after they lean on the first group. Just like a mafia RICO investigation.
And now calls are starting for the Big Boy Sponsors to be boycotted.
This has just begun.

deadspin.com/sepp-blatter-will-resign-updating-1708471332Well that was fast, apparently we'll have to wait 4 months for them to vote in the next corrupt president. Can't wait... On Edit: It seems like it'll be longer than 4 months until a replacement is determined. I love this from Blatter's statement though - "The size of the executive committee must be reduced and its members should be elected through the FIFA Congress". Translation: We want to concentrate the power to choose WCs in even fewer hands, and I want them chosen by the body that just reelected me. If it's implemented, you'll never see another American on the Exec Committee ever again. *Drops Mic*

Coca Cola, Visa, News Corp., et al are Fifa's Iron Bank of Bravos.

Coca Cola, Visa, News Corp., et al are Fifa's Iron Bank of Bravos. That probably played a big part (though we'll never know for sure), but the revelation today that FIFA's General Secretary was involved in the $10M bribe from South Africa to Jack Warner probably sealed the deal more, since it's now clear the feds likely have something on Blatter himself. They had previously been trying to pin the blame for the bribe on someone who is now dead (always the best scapegoat). Our difference of opinion has always been what the end result of all this would be. You seem to think this will likely lead to lasting change in FIFA, or at least the US getting the 2022 WC, while I think that's highly unlikely (not impossible, just unlikely). Removing Blatter doesn't cure anything, as the problem never been confined just to him, or Qatar/Russia (neither of whom Blatter actually voted for), or CONCACAF. Issa Hayatou is just as corrupt as Jack Warner, but his name hasn't come up once. Even if it does, there are dozens of Country Federation presidents just as bad to take his place.

Yeah, it is a real shock that an international organization without any accountability whatsoever to anyone in any way is riddled with corruption, insider dealing, millions in improper payments, greed and fraud. And the UN was started with such promise in 1945. UN, FIFA, what's the difference?

Not quite World Cup but hey...we beat the World Champs today!!! Great week for the Men's National Team Nice accomplishment - not the German A team, but not ours either with Dempsey and Altidore out. Hopefully we play with the same intensity and cohesion in the Gold Cup.
