I'll start it off with a couple of questions.
USA getting out of the group of death?
Was the Nigeria friendly Jozy's Wilfred Brimley dip in the Awakening pool moment?

The team looked pretty good during that last friendly against Nigeria. Play the same against Ghana, get a win and hope fate is on our side against Portugal or Germany (or hope that Ghana wins a game other then against us in the group). If we get out of the group then who knows what could happen.

I hope to be pleasantly surprised despite my increasingly low expectations...
Nigeria definitely helped to fuel that hope.

World Cup Teams To Watch If you make it through all 12 slides without cracking up many, many times, you are probably rooting for Germany.

Sepp Blatter XII is proud to announce the 3022 World Cup has been awarded to Tatooine. Gangsters, slaves, oppressive heat, wretched hives of scum and villainy...it's right up FIFA's alley. JJ Abrams has already announced "Sepp Blatter" as the big bad in Episode VII.

Ah! We should've done the HT WC poll. Anyway, I'm picking Argentina. Also, the US gets out of the Group of Death.

God save me from opening ceremonies! (or closing ones, for that matter)
Judging by the visible attendance, I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I also like Argentina. There would be delicious irony in Argentina hoisting the Cup in Brazil.
That said, Spain are champs until they are not.

I honestly forgot JLo had a music background. Very uninspired choice and execution for Opening ceremonies.
Think the bookmakers 40% odds of US getting out of group sounds about right.

I travel to Brazil on business fairly often. You haven't seen traffic until you've been to Rio or São Paulo trying to get to the international airport in the late afternoon.

Not much better work from the refs today. Hopefully, this will change. Also, memo to FIFA: see how hard it is raining today? That's because the World Cup is being hosted in a rain forest. It rains hard and it rains a lot. Nothing wrong with playing some matches in the rain. It can be very exciting. But the lesson here is: Mother Nature does not care how much you've been bribed. She'll do what she wants. So, about that decision to host the World Cup in a desert? As bad as the refs have been in the first two matches, having "the refs suck" as a theme isn't quite as bad as having "and now we see the players drinking their own urine to survive."
