Packed house already at McDonough and I can confirm that Hollis Thompson's 76ers jersey is up on the wall.
We can all exhale now.

His form remained good all season, he just needs added strength and more confidence. He can be a big force for us outside.

Final, Higher Learning 77, Clyde's 61.
Unofficially, I had Paul with:
8 PTS, 1-8 FG (1-4 3-PT FG, 3-3 FT), 2 REB, BLOCK, TO, 3 PF
Tre with:
7 PTS, 3-12 FG (1-3 3-PT FG), 3 REB, AST, STL, FG, PF
As evident from their numbers, neither got into a flow offensively. If you ever saw Tre play at St. John's, you know he likes to push the ball and look for his teammates and that's what he did however his teammates also struggled as well, aside from GW guard Paul Jorgensen, who was impressive.
Paul doesn't force too much and he didn't today and while he got some good looks, his jumper just wasn't falling. However, he was very impressive defensively. He had a spectacular block in transition in the first half and played excellent perimeter defense all game. If anything, I'm excited about what he'll bring to the table as far as length on the perimeter and his offensive game will be fine. He's too skilled and smart for it not to be.
Not the best start for either, but there were encouraging signs.

Michael Bohlin @mbohlin247 · 14m Trawick with his third three pointer of the first half, has 15 points in 14 minutes. If he can consistently knock that shot down, watch out.
Michael Bohlin @mbohlin247 · 3m Half: Takeover leads Tombs 58-32. Jabril Trawick has been great w/ 17 PTS, 3 AST, 2 STL. Mikael Hopkins just as good, 8 PTS, 6 REB & 1 BLK.
Michael Bohlin @mbohlin247 · 1m Isaac Copeland with a solid start to his Kenner career w/ 6 PTS, 1 STL & 1 BLK. Playing hard on both ends and showing off his midrange game.
Michael Bohlin @mbohlin247 · 27s LJ Peak living up to his billing as a slasher. Big time athlete had one dunk and seemingly attacked at all times.
DevonTe Brooks @dbrookssbn 5m Team takeover leads Tombs at half with score being 58-32. LJ peak has 2PTS 1ast &1 rebound. Isaac Copeland has 6PTS, 3 rebounds and 1 block

TTO ran Tombs out of the building. I was writing stats in my Notes app on my phone and somehow managed to delete Copeland's statline, but for everyone else ...
Trawick:
21 PTS, 8-12 FG (3-5 3-PT FG), 4 AST, STL, REB, BLK, 2 PF
Hopkins:
17 PTS, 7-10 FG ( 3-5 FT), 8 REB, 5 BLK, 2 TO
Peak:
11 PTS, 5-12 FG (3-4 FT), 2 AST, REB, STL, PF
It was the Jabril Trawick show in the first half. He drained threes, ran the offense, fed teammates for easy buckets, punished the rim on two highlight-worthy dunks, strapped up on defense, etc.. My man who met me at the game and who is a die-hard 'Cuse fan volunteered that he looked like a future pro. He pretty much did whatever he wanted whenever he wanted the entire game. Awfully impressive first game for Jabril.
Copeland was impressive as well. He easily had double figures scoring and while he's more of a catch-and-shoot guy on the perimeter right now, he shoots the ball with confidence and made a few mid-range jumpers that looked good the second they left his hand. Also has good floor vision and found teammates for a few easy buckets. Very fluid athlete. Ran the floor well, rebounded and played solid defense. Good first game overall for him.
Peak started the game slow playing off the ball and looked more like a spectator for stretches of the first half. However, it seems like there was an effort to get him the ball and allow him to create in the second half and he looked a lot better. Has a quick first step and is explosive driving to the cup. Has a lot of arc on his jumper and has no problem getting it off against taller defenders. Plays with a calm, steady pace. TTO started to throw two defenders at him and he never got rattled or rushed anything. Could exert more effort defensively in half court and on transition but we already knew that. Has the athleticism and wingspan to be a lockdown defender if he wants to be. Overall, I liked what I saw.
If you've ever seen Mikael at KL, this was a pretty standard performance for him. Was stuffed under the basket on his first few attempts, but got off with offensive putbacks, a few post-ups and drives to the basket for and-1's as the game progressed. Rebounded well and blocked pretty much everything in his area. Again, solid performance but this is what he does at KL.

Thanks, Deacon! Man, I just can't believe it is that time of the year again. Also, glad to hear that the freshmen are solid ball players and seem likely to contribute right away. I like the confidence.

I, for one, feel bad for Markel. That damned NBA summer league has prevented him from maximizing his full potential. May he average a Kenner League stat line against the rest of the league.

Sounds like the returning vets showed the frosh they are not going to just step aside for them. And, maybe it's the start of lowering our expectations. It's only one Kenner game but......

I don't know about other people, but I never expected our freshmen to dominate, especially offensively. I expect DSR, Trawick and Smith to be key members of next season's team and provide much of the scoring.
What I hope to get out of the freshmen is defense, rebounding, depth on the floor and on the bench. We really weren't that bad last year, but we got killed by personnel losses and awful defense, especially down low. Copeland and White are going to help with that. They will all chip in on offense, but if any of them turn into an offensive star, that's a huge bonus.

What we can hope for is for 1-2 to produce seasons like we got from Porter or DSR, but even then it will take time. I think that Smith, Hopkins, Trawick and DSR start initially with Bowen,Cameron, White, Copeland and Peak assured of some minutes.

The write-up on Casual (link below) by a long time vet is spot on/clear-eyed in every way. I was at all the frosh games and really think he captured it well (special mention to the Tre C. analysis). Two other things of note on Jabril: (1) He looked very comfortable -- smooth even -- taking the three and was looking for it too. Not sure what the mechanical difference could be, but all of us I think had the same thought: if he can do THAT consistently, WOW what a backcourt with DSR... (2) And to add some detail, one of Jabril's "monster dunks" was without peer in my Kenner League viewing (and I saw Iverson play two of his three games). A two on one breakaway where GW's Kethan Savage fed Jabril an underhand alley oop on the wing that Jabril took with one hand out of the air behind his head and tomahawked it through with AUTHORITY. It....was... AWESOME..... www.casualhoya.com/2014/7/5/5873915/kenner-league-recap-july-5-2014

If anyone is planning on going to check Kenner out, make sure you go on a day Team Takeover is playing just so you can see Jabril play. Can't say enough how impressive he was yesterday and I forgot to mention he looks like he could be 6'6", 230 now and it's all muscle.
Him and Josh Hart man the backcourt for TTO and from what I saw yesterday, it's not fair.
