Had an early dinner reservation, so I left at the half of the Tombs-TT game. Jabril was easily the most impressive player I saw all afternoon. Was draining 3s regularly and had about three vicious dunks, including over Peak. All the frosh looked solid. Campbell is small but plays a smart game. His shot isn't the pure jumper we're used to seeing from Markel, but he has a strong handle and should contribute. White couldn't find his shot but showed good court awareness. Sead Dizdarevic was coaching Clydes, and White looks to be maybe an inch shorter than Sead. Copeland has the same sort of length that Otto Porter had and a good deal of athleticism. Peak looked good in spots but was overshadowed by Trawick. Hopkins seems to have added some muscle and was strong underneath. Riyan Williams played well in limited minutes.

I don't know about other people, but I never expected our freshmen to dominate, especially offensively. I expect DSR, Trawick and Smith to be key members of next season's team and provide much of the scoring. And Reggie. He got his freshman year out of the way with a mixed bag. With more options on the bench, Reggie needs to make his offensive mark early, and improve his defense, or his pt will be given to another player.

I may need to look at a schedule, any Hayes sightings? Agree. I was looking forward to Hayes in Kenner as I think we will need 7-10 solid mins from him next year to help Smith/Hops.

The write-up on Casual (link below) by a long time vet is spot on/clear-eyed in every way. I was at all the frosh games and really think he captured it well (special mention to the Tre C. analysis). Two other things of note on Jabril: (1) He looked very comfortable -- smooth even -- taking the three and was looking for it too. Not sure what the mechanical difference could be, but all of us I think had the same thought: if he can do THAT consistently, WOW what a backcourt with DSR... (2) And to add some detail, one of Jabril's "monster dunks" was without peer in my Kenner League viewing (and I saw Iverson play two of his three games). A two on one breakaway where GW's Kethan Savage fed Jabril an underhand alley oop on the wing that Jabril took with one hand out of the air behind his head and tomahawked it through with AUTHORITY. It....was... AWESOME..... www.casualhoya.com/2014/7/5/5873915/kenner-league-recap-july-5-2014Thanks for the link, jmw. Also, thanks to everyone for the Kenner reports. Who will be the next FL?

DevonTe Brooks @dbrookssbn 1h Aaron Bowen has been quiet in the first hafl. Bowen has 4 PTS ! & 2 Rebs Bradley Hayes has 2 points 2 blocks. Making an impact on defense
Hoyas247 @hoyas247 · 2h Cameron's knocked down two early three pointers continuing his hot shooting from yesterday. Reggie guarded Bowen briefly, moved his feet ok.
Hoyas247 @hoyas247 · 1h Half: DCX up 47-38. Bowen not shooting well but has 4 PTS, 3 REB. Cameron shooting well w/ 10 PTS. Hayes w/ 2 PTS & 2 BLK, Allen w/ 7 PTS.
Hoyas247 @hoyas247 · 1h Biggest thing I'm watching is Cameron's defense, doing better on perimeter than when on the block.
Hoyas247 @hoyas247 1h Bradley Hayes just hit a one handed shot from about 12 feet away from the bucket, still comfortable turning to the paint and shooting a hook
DevonTe Brooks @dbrookssbn 1h Bradley Hayes has picked up the intensity on the offensive side of the ball. His teammahes is getting him more involved
Hoyas247 @hoyas247 · 49m Final: Symonds wins 78-72. Cameron finishes w/ 10 PTS, Allen w/ 9. Bowen and Hayes score 8 each in the loss. Tough shooting day for Bowen.
Hoyas247 @hoyas247 · 32m Really strong start for Trey Mourning as he has six points with his two buckets coming off of offensive rebounds, including a tip slam dunk.
Hoyas247 @hoyas247 · 7m Trey Mourning had a hot start with 6 PTS, including two put backs, and 3 REB. DSR strangely quiet, not looking to shoot much, is scoreless.
Hoyas247 @hoyas247 6m Half: Clyde’s up on A. Wash 45-37. Tre Campbell much better today w/ 10 PTS, 3 AST & 2 STL at the break. Paul White w/ 2 PTS, 3 REB & 3 AST.

Hoyas247 @hoyas247 1m Paul White again very solid with 6 PTS (3/5 FG), 4 AST, 3 REB & 1 STL. White made the assist on what wound up being the game winning basket.
Details Hoyas247 @hoyas247 2m Tre Campbell with a solid performance today finishing w/ 12 PTS (5/12 FG), 5 AST, 3 REB & 2 STL. Did a much better job of attacking the rim.
Hoyas247 @hoyas247 · 4m Final: Clydes wins 82-80. Solid performances all around after DSR scored 18 in the second half. Individual stats and thoughts coming.

Hoyas247 @hoyas247 12m Trey Mourning had another nice game finishing with 9 PTS (3/7 FG 3/4 FT) and 7 REB. He's looked the part in his first two Kenner appearances

Forgot to mention I watched a few minutes of the A. Wash & Associates game yesterday and Trey looked like he belonged. More coordinated than I thought and definitely has a feel for the game.

They need to be threats to score but not necessarily big scorers. Just going from 3 on 5 to 5 on 5 on offense would help this team dramatically on offense. If it turns out Ike is good for 15 a game, great. But 7-8 within the flow of the offense and solid defense might be even more valuable.

The good news is that eventually during the season one or two of the frosh will be reliable guys who are capable of giving you double figures when they step out on the court. You add that to DSR, Joshua, Jabril, Bowen and Reggie (and hopefully with a solid Mikael) and scoring becomes less of an issue.

There were times last year when jabril was the most important guy out on the court for us. If he can play at that level through an entire season...watch out.
