Not sure where to put this comment but this thread seems as good as any. So I'm home sick today. Flipping around in the TV, I get to the CBS Sports Network. There's a little program called, "The Doug Gottlieb Show." Whaaaaa??? He is currently talking about the college football playoff system and Adrian Peterson. WTF has become of TV programming? Is there anyone who actually tunes in daily to hear his opinion? It's worth a watch for sure as it seems like an SNL skit that is supposed to be funny but isn't but kinda is. Those 24 hours a day are not going to fill themselves. Outside of live events, there is no need for round the clock sports coverage. But that's what we have. ESPN goes with one channel of Sportscenter breathlessly repeating the top controversy of the day (manufactured or only partially manufactured), then the other channels simulcast radio shows. NBCSN (Dan Patrick), FS1 (Francesa) and CBS Sports (the bottom of the barrel) simulcast radio shows because it's cheap, and, hey, it's something. I'd like to say Gottleib is as low as we can go, but at some point, the John Feinstein Show may come to a cable channel near you. And then we will have hit rock bottom. You know what? We may hate Feinstein, but he's a hell of a lot more accomplished that Dougie. I would definitely watch Feinstein before I'd watch Dougie spew his nonsense.

St. John's is still in the running for Isaiah Briscoe (Roselle Catholic guard), who is also being recruited by Kentucky and Connecticut. From the looks of things, his recruitment by the Johnnies is of paramount importance, seeing as almost no one is expected to return for the 2015-2016 season. nypost.com/2014/11/07/briscoes-decision-key-to-st-johns-future-plans/It also appears, from the above article, that Steve Lavin has not reached any agreement on any contract extension (as otherwise rumored last spring), and his contract is in its final two seasons. It's easy to see how he could be relieved of his duties if they don't get Briscoe or any other highly-regarded talent to come to Queens, as they have no commitments at all for the incoming class.

Creighton 91, Sioux Falls 72
Crowd of 16,300 with no giveaways for an exhibition game.

Butler vs. University of Chicago (DIII) (Exhibition) www.holylandofhoops.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3817Dawgs win 88-45. Dunham 18 Chrabascz 12 Woods 12 Barlow 10 Etherington 10 Jones 8 points, 8 assists, 5 steals, 3 boards. Starting five is good. Depth will easily be this team's biggest weakness.

If you read the comments on YaBoyNyP's link, you can see just how frustrated the Johnny fan base has become with Lavin's "leadership."

Looks like Briscoe to SJU might be close to a done deal… Nice grab for Lavin if it happens Just wondering if the Briscoe-to-St. John's speculation is as accurate as Tacko Fall to Georgetown. It would be nice if the Johnnies can land a big time recruit, but let's see it actually happen first. In the words of Professor John Bailey, "I'm not cynical. I'm cheerfully skeptical."

I really do not know of another program in America that has been hit harder than DePaul over the last 20 years with stuff like this. Rutgers.

@ NJHoya
Fwiw...Only people projecting Fall to Gtown were the 247sports Crystal Ball “Experts”. Crystal Ball is just a smidgen above broken clock in terms of accuracy…

It really has been a mystery why Rutgers can't put a winning team on the basketball court. You can go back to the Bobby Lloyd-led teams of the mid-1960s (back when making the NIT really meant something), or the 1975-76 RU team led by Phil Sellers and coached by Tom Young into the Final Four, to find winning basketball teams, but otherwise it has been year after year of ugly hoops on the banks of the old Raritan. My father, an RU alum (Class of '47) gave up on the Scarlet Knight athletic program while I was still in high school.
I am skeptical (okay, cheerfully skeptical) that Eddie Jordan can change things at Rutgers. The RAC is not the imposing home court that we once saw, years ago. Rutgers does not recruit very well in New Jersey in any of the revenue sports(why should they, after all. . .we don't have too many superior players in New Jersey, right?), and the move to the Big Ten is exposing RU's athletic shortcomings. Hard to see that changing any time soon.

The podcast for the women's soccer championship appears to be locked out here in Charleston (Directv) as well as the Saturday Hoya basketball game. What gives?

It's cause they pushed the Meyers (Joey and Ray) out. Then non of the other alumini (Mark Aguirre, Dallas Comegys, Ty Corbin, Terry Cummings, Dave Corzine) wanted to come back to support or coach at a place that had unceremoniously dumped the father-son coaching dynasty.

Joey Meyer had a career head coaching record of 231-158 at DePaul, with his only two losing seasons occurring when the Blue Demons moved from the Great Midwest Conference into Conference USA. Yes, the last season was putrid (3-23), but he did have six straight 20 win seasons. How many 20 win seasons has DePaul had since Joey Meyer was fired in 1997? Four. Two under Dave Leitao, and one each under Pat Kennedy and (somehow) under Jerry Wainwright. How many NCAA appearances under Joey Meyer? Seven. How many since he was fired? Two. Hard to argue that (a) he wasn't pushed out in favor of Kennedy too quickly, and (b) that it wasn't a huge mistake, given the aftermath of the past sixteen seasons. There is no one being recruited, now, by DePaul that has any memory of the program from its glory days. Their knowledge of DePaul basketball is simply years and years of bad, bad basketball. Oh, here's a writeup of DePaul's game against that D2 powerhouse, Lewis, dated November 6: depauliaonline.com/sports/2014/11/06/depaul-mens-basketball-avoids-upset-against-lewis-with-72-68-victory/I think the comment to the story says it all.
