Jim B? Jim Boeheim might have some explaining to do to Carmelo Anthony. In his book, “Bleeding Orange,” Boeheim, for some reason, revealed Anthony’s freshman year grades at Syracuse. According to Boeheim, Anthony received four Cs and a D in the first semester of his freshman year. Melo's Place Carmelo Anthony is the Knicks' biggest star. He's also one of the all-time greats. ESPN NY's Top 25 Knicks Vote "Maybe if we hadn't won the title, he would've come back," Boeheim writes, according to the Wall Street Journal. "I honestly don't know, and I don't think Carmelo knows. Carmelo did his work, went to class and never gave us any trouble. He made four C's and a D in his first semester, and if anyone wants to roll his eyes at that, plenty of freshmen who aren't carrying a basketball team on their back do a lot worse. But we couldn’t put him in for the Wooden Award because his grades weren’t good enough. Nevertheless, this much is certain: No college basketball player in America was better than freshman Carmelo Anthony over the course of the 2002-03 season espn.go.com/blog/new-york/knicks/post/_/id/59003/boeheim-reveals-melos-freshman-gradesWTH?? Why would he say that? It’s nobodies business, plus I think it’s illegal… smh

Lawbreaking at Syracuse? What next? Sun rising in the East.
My favorite part is listening to Magoo say those grades are okay. That and his convenient omission of anything about second semester grades...or even going to a class second semester for that matter.

Chris Herring ✔ @herringwsj Follow Spoke to Jim Boeheim, who said he'd previously spoken with Carmelo about mentioning his first-semester college grades in his upcoming book.
Chris Herring ✔ @herringwsj Follow Boeheim: "The point I was trying to make, & maybe did not succeed in, was that I was impressed w/ how he did as a first-semester freshman.” Ok Jim
Chris Herring ✔ @herringwsj Follow Unclear whether Melo ever gave written consent to waive his privacy rights. But Boeheim said he spoke w Melo prior, & will reach out again

I can't stand Melo but, IMO, that's not information his coach should have shared or asked to share. Out of curiosity, is a C in Canada the same as a C in the States?

Classic example of the double standard - if he put in C level work on the court, Jimmy B would bench him, even if he made all As in class. But A work on the court excuses lower quality work in the less important class-room stuff. What holes - I don't want any recruit, no matter how good, who doesn't understand the STUDENT-athlete situation.
That said, I will not be disclosing my first semester freshman year grades at any time...

How about judging them on the fact that he attended no classes second semester. Would have loved to see the academic gymnastics necessary to keep him eligible if he opted to return

At least Nova is fairly highly ranked. Hoyas need to step up. That poll needs more Big East teams!

Disappointing result--at most, four coaches ranked Georgetown #25. Either these coaches are really down on the Hoyas or, more likely, they took the standings from last season and simply ranked the teams thusly.

That's what some guys do week to week in season too (everyone hates them). In the off-season it makes more sense since they don't know quite all the changes to each team. I'm sure the final pre-season ranking will look much different.

Think both are top 25 teams but the BE only won 1 Tourney game last season so not surprising only one team in top 25. Think Nova should be a top 10 team Preseason also since they only lost one player from a top 10 team last year.

Gtown, Nova, Xavier and then a fourth like St. Johns need to show up in early OOC games. That will carry forward through the rest of the year if we get big wins early (Like Nova last year who was on no ones radar and got a 2 seed).
