To a much more important point, he hurt Syracuse, which makes him one of the good guys. Twice - once as a freshman Hoya in the BET and yesterday from Dayton.

When people write this it makes me wonder one thing. Who should have sat Chris Austin or Jason Clark?? He doesn't even start for Dayton. He left cause Markel won the battle for time. Im happy for him cause he has said nothing bad about Georgetown and has stayed in contact with some of the guys via twitter that I have seen. So this all jt3 did him wrong stuff is overblown. He wouldnt even be on this team this year. Every team has transfers. He doesn't start but he finishes. It's not like he can't start, and oh, I second that ...Vee finishes strong ...

Vee always could play the one and two and was just as good and smarter than any other Hoya on that team...politics played a significant role and coach has done a better job at playing most of his players now..maybe it's something he had to work on ... I agree he has gotten better at player management. Yessir always been a true point guard if you ask me and wouldve been great at playing both positions...Im just glad we have a guard coach in Sutton..

Remember, dense, same dude who claimed Bowen would go for 23 ppg. Consider the source. I don't recall saying that. Dense was not responding to you there. If you were purple, you would have said that.

Not every point here is mutually exclusive. Yes, it was political. Wright, Freeman, Clark, Starks were all local with ties we needed to keep warm. They were gonna get their minutes. Yes, they were all better players than Vee. Yes, Vee probably deserved more minutes.
I do believe he probably would have started at the 2 his senior year, or at least split time there with Whit -- which wouldnt have mattered anyway when he got suspended -- and he would have spelled Starks at the pg for a few minutes a game too. DSR would have cut into some minutes as well but it probably would have been a by game situation. He was probably looking at 20-22 minutes a game a senior year if he had stayed. I do think he would have been useful because of his speed, especially guarding a guy like Comer who was getting into the lane at will against us last year.... I'm happy for Vee but am sad we lost a guy that could have added something most good tournament teams have which is a diversity of players with varied sizes and styles that add depth to the team. Thats a big tool when you get to the tournament and are playing all different types of teams. No doubt though that there were a lot of better players ahead of him when he was an underclassman and a lot of talent coming in when he was projecting out to be an upperclassman, so I can't blame his decision in light of his limited PT. But I don't entirely blame JT3 either. Just the way these things break sometimes....

It is also instructive here that, according the Lundquist and Raftery, Pops and Lorry Michel called Vee after his OSU game winner to congratulate him.
Bottom line: Vee made a decision based on what the coaching staff projected his role to be. I'm happy it worked out for him as I heard a lot about his struggle with lack of PT and his decision to transfer from my daughter, his classmate. He's a smart young man who probably would have been more in the rotation his Senior year but decided he wanted more. I have no problem with that.

I am honestly happy for Vee...great kid....but if he couldn't except his role here then he didn't belong here. Vee is a good ball player ...but may have never been a starter at Georgetown. He certainly would have a solid contributor and someone we could have used, but let's not pretend that the kid is a game changer. In the end, he found a good home and happy for him....just funny how the trolls start lurking as soon as the kid has a couple good games. This is the biggest key for me, Vee would have been a nice contributor here his last 2 years.. And seeing that a jr Vee would have been better than Jabril as a freshman then it's not a stretch to say he could have been a "game changer" It's crazy how just being a contributing player gets so minimized by a lot folks on the board..

Is Vee still a 5th year Senior? Lol Why can’t people just be happy for dood and leave it at that. He played behind 3 All Big East guards, tough situation and it worked our for him. Congrats Vee! Exactly

I have no first hand knowledge, but I do not think Vee Sanford left Georgetown because he didn't get 5 more minutes a game in the other seasons. With Wright, Freeman, and Clark ahead of him, there just wasn't an opportunity for Vee Sanford to get the same playing time he has gotten with Dayton.
There are a lot of assumptions here that if John Thompson III had played Vee Sanford just a little more, maybe he would have stayed. In actuality, I think Sanford would have left anyway. Benimon played a lot more than Vee, and he left anyway. I think Sanford made a decision based on what he wanted his role to be, and it seems to have worked out for him. Good for him.
I admit I generally support John Thompson III and the staff, but it's amazing how people will use almost any opportunity to take digs at the staff, even if they don't make any good sense.

I wanted to congratulate former hoya Vee Sanford on a great tournament. Its a shame that 95% of this board knew that Vee had a lot of talent and just needed more minutes. Its a testament to JT3's stubbornness that Vee had to transfer. Wouldn't have been nice to have Vee here 4 years. Should have given him playing time. We all knew it!! Doesn't seeing him hit game winning shots make you sick, while we are in the NIT! Thanks JT3. Nice. No one had to sit. Vee got very little to no playing. Current he is not starting on Dayton but providing valuable minute. He had a big time A-10 conference championship tournament. I think most people think feel he could got more minutes. There where nights Freeman, Wright and Clark was off. And usually JTIII lived and died with those guys without giving others a chance to perform. I believe in JTIII Xs and Os. But when it come to team management and development of players, It doesn't look good. I think there is a certain level stubbornness that JTIII brings to the table that I feel is detrimental to the field.

You would hope that the coach would have seen and harnessed this potential. I'm very happy for vee I just think its a knock on 3. This program better finds its edge. too complacent.

You think that everything is a knock on 3, so . . . Vee would have had a few more minutes as a junior, and even more as a senior last year. He left because he wanted a better chance to start. He went to an A10 school and could not start there. He made the best of the situation, and had a moment Thursday he will never forget. Fantastic for him. Enough of this silliness.

The discussion is would he have helped in his last 2 seasons at G'town and whether or not JT3's short rotation played a role in him leaving..

Mano y mano, Clark was not a better player than Vee; Clark was a better PERSON for the Hoyas than Vee at the time - or, at least JTIII saw it that way. Also, why not play a 3 guard lineup? if you've got 3 good guards? Or at least more minutes. Maybe i wouldn't say this if JTIII didn't consistently do this with players such as Hayes and Domingo. Talent is on the bench. Jason Clark in 2011 was a better player than Vee Samford in 2014. Jason Clark in 2012 was a MUCH better player than Vee Samford in 2014. This is a ridiculous post. Clark was a starter and team leader on a 3-seeded team. Vee comes off the bench for an 11-seed, as a fifth year senior. read again what i said. you understood incorrectly. ok let me clarify. Clark was better at the time as far as we knew because he got playing time. But in my humble opinion, VS is/was or just as good as Clark, he just didn't play. That's my opinion. As far as your perspective and probably half the folks on the board, my original post was "ridiculous"

I think Vee should have gotten more time, and he's the only transfer that made sense that I really think should have been avoided (Macklin's transfer, on the other hand, made no sense unless there were academic issues -- and I never heard of any). That said, anyone thinking fifth year Vee Sanford is not sustantially better than sophomore Vee Sanford is more than a little crazy. Vee was, at best, the 4th best guard on that roster. Future NBA player Hollis Thompson was splitting time between the 4 and the 3, trying to keep us from playing small all the time. Vee wasn't a PG, so Markel got some extra time. So, yeah, Vee could have gotten more time. But there's a lot of revisionist history here (like Purple asking why not play a 3 guard lineup. Umm, we did, for much of the game. And everyone hated it because our defense sucked.) cool. i was responding to someone who said it would've been stupid to play a 3 guard lineup. that lineup can work. in fact, GU has gotten beat multiple times by 3 guard lineups.
