Well, we were all hoping to discuss this under different circumstances. But, it doesn't change the fact that we have to win. Butler, if Seton Hall wins; DePaul, if Butler wins. I could care less. Just win... DePaul, it is. BET Bracket

If we beat DePaul on Wednesday, you know we will all be back here on Thursday night for our serving of delusion and torture....

Based on how Creighton is playing tonight (up 40-18 with 4 to play in 1st half- shooting about 70%) - torture is probably the right word for it. Although I will hold on to the fact that we have a recent history of defending Creighton well.

Bench Hopkins and send him on his way. Time for a fresh start.

Bench Hopkins and send him on his way. Time for a fresh start. That is not going to happen. But it would help to find a reduced role more suited to his strengths. And he does have some. He just fails to use them sometimes.

Bench Hopkins and send him on his way. Time for a fresh start. I understand your well deserved frustration, but the one thing that Hop has done really well this year is defend Doug McDermott and we will be playing Creighton on Thursday.......

Pete Thamel @sipetethamel 8m
Bad news: Big East Tournament is not sold out. Good news: Creighton fans have bought 2,100 packages, most of any school.
We knew both of these things, but there ya go.

The other thing you can probably deduce from this is that if Gtown can pull the upset on Thursday night there will be a good amount of Creighton tickets flooding the market for the semis and finals....

In the glass half full department (appropriate since I am posting this from Fantasyland in Disney World), I think the BET bracket sets up quite nicely for the Hoyas. Time to take advantage of the opportunity. No excuses.

Definitely. DePaul, Creighton, Xavier are much better matchups than butler, nova, SJU/providence. Just gotta come out and bury DePaul and get the ball rolling...

If we beat DePaul on Wednesday, you know we will all be back here on Thursday night for our serving of delusion and torture.... I'm hoping so. For me, there's one underlying question that matters for the BET: is this team capable of playing multiple good games in a row? If I'm being honest, I don't think so. During Big East play, you'd probably look at the Nova-MSU-@depaul-Butler-Providence stretch as the best example of multiple good performances. I would argue @depaul (remember the first half?) and Butler were actually blah performances against bad teams, and Nova was a loss--a not-badly-played loss, but good losses don't get us into the NCAAs at this point. I guess there's good news in that we have decent matchups on our half of the bracket (we probably match up the worst against Marquette). And I guess we could get away with a blah performance and beat DePaul, as long as we got the high caliber performance on Thursday night. But for any number of reasons we've discussed on the board all season--foul trouble, poor defense, lack of offensive options, the lack of a Chick Fil A promotion at MSG--I don't see everything going right (and to me we're a "things have to go right" team this year) for three straight nights to get us into the BET Final...and FWIW that's where I think we need to get for a NCAA bid to become a possibility. But I'm still hoping for more delusion and torture, because why the #123fireballs not?

I can no longer assume that this team will beat anyone. If we beat DePaul then I think that we are a good matchup with Creighton. However, the real issue for our Hoyas is not match ups but mindsets. If these kids show up and play within themselves we can play against any Big East team and most others. When they don't there is no team in the Big East that cannot take us out.

What is past is prologue.
I too want to hope. I was full of hope at 2:10 pm yesterday.
I will cheer on this team until their season ends - whenever that will be.
Go Hoyas!

This team has a lot of issues but I don't get that we could "lose to anyone." Sure that's true as much as it always is but the story of this team is it can't win on the road. I almost like our chances to win two or three at the Garden more than having to replay the Butler game at Butler for example.

My comment that we could lose to anyone was limited to other Big East schools. Considering that we struggled at home with DePaul, lost twice to Seton Hall and and went to overtime against Butler I stand by the comment particularly at a road or neutral venue.
