This team has a lot of issues but I don't get that we could "lose to anyone." Sure that's true as much as it always is but the story of this team is it can't win on the road. I almost like our chances to win two or three at the Garden more than having to replay the Butler game at Butler for example. My comment that we could lose to anyone was limited to other Big East schools. Considering that we struggled at home with DePaul, lost twice to Seton Hall and and went to overtime against Butler I stand by the comment particularly at a road or neutral venue. DePaul thankfully has lost its best player in Cleveland Melvin if thats any consolation for Wednesday's game

Anyone else think that this team(without Josh Smith) would finish 11-7 or 12-6 if we could start BE play all over again today? I predict we kill DePaul, squeak by Creighton, easily beat Xavier and give Nova a run for the championship.

Pete Thamel @sipetethamel 8m Bad news: Big East Tournament is not sold out. Good news: Creighton fans have bought 2,100 packages, most of any school. We knew both of these things, but there ya go. Wenzel(I think) mentioned on the air the other day, that a buddy of his could not find a tix anywhere. I'm guessing he was just trying the make the league look good.

I add to this quote that if one of the teams on the opposite side takes out Nova we will win the Championship..........crazy talk.......... I truly believe that we got the best draw that we could possibly ask for. All of the problem children are on the opposite side of the bracket. It not an coincidence that SH beat up twice easily and we played Creighton and Xavier tough twice. It's all about match-ups............

For those of you in New York, there was an advertisement about a "Big East Tip Off" event at Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central on March 11. Of course, I cannot find any information about it online at all, so I have no idea what time it will be or what it even consists of. Anyway, since I work nearby I will probably try to check it out in case John Thompson III or any of our guys are there.
If anybody knows more about this event, let me know.

Just checked Ticketmaster, and there are a scary number of seats available for all sessions. They are all pretty bad seats in the upper deck and in the corners. I checked it couple of months ago, and it doesn't seem like they have sold a single ticket since. The available seating chart looks exactly the same. That's really disappointing.

Looking at the ticket situation for the BET on ticketmaster, it's starting to look pretty ugly. Huge swaths of unsold seats in dozens of sections. There's potential that it won't be a very good look at all for the league - and if that place is as empty as it looks like it may well be, it'll be hard to blame the building if it opts to bring in the ACC and other conferences at some point in the near future.
EDIT: Looks like the above post and this one went up at almost the exact same time. Guess we both pushed the panic button together!

Not unless MSG wants to be in breach of contract. Clearly, swapping the Syracuse, Louisville and UConn fan bases for Creighton, Butler, and Xavier doesn't sell as many seats. However, it probably doesn't matter to MSG. Why? Events like this are not owned or managed by the Garden (i.e., you're not buying tickets from them). My guess is that the Big East has a four day facility rental on MSG. If, for sake of example, it costs $500K a day to rent the Garden, the Big East then writes a $2 million check and either makes or breaks based on what they sell. If you're in the conference offices, you are hopeful St. John's and Creighton are there on Saturday; Providence and Butler, less so. MSG is the most expensive facility to rent in the nation. In part, that's why you don't see Fordham or Manhattan playing basketball in the building like they used to, because they can't afford it. St. John's probably can't afford it but they eat the costs. The Millrose Games were there for 100 years but moved out a few years ago, because there's not much money in indoor track meets anymore. Even a group like the WWE promotes fewer shows at the Garden then in years past because the cost makes it tough to break even on a single event without a sold out crowd. But as long as the Big East writes that check, the Garden has agreed to rent the building whether there's 20,000 or 2,000 in the door.

Honestly, BET was always kinda empty the first day or two of the tournament. I suspect it'll fill up by thursday night. Definitely by Friday. BET at MSG is the type of place where there are a lot of walk-up sales before gametime. If Gtown wins Wednesday, I for one will be buying at the ticket window on Thursday. I suspect I'm not alone. Friday night is the Key. Those back to back games in the semis is just an electric atmosphere. Finals too and that will sell-out for sure. As long as those two days are sell-outs we're all good....

I don't know (and I assume none of us does) the exact contractual terms of the deal. But I find it hard to believe it is simply a matter of the conference writing a check. I assume MSG keeps all (or at least some) of the significant concession sales during the tournament -- fewer attendees, fewer dollars. My guess is that there is some sort of out in the contract if MSG isn't making enough money overall on the deal. There's also value for MSG in being "the" place for the biggest events. Big begets big, from a marketing standpoint, particuarly since there is now, for the first time in ages, significant competition for MSG within the city. If the BET isn't getting it done, I don't know why they wouldn't look elsewhere.

Works the same with a place like Verizon Center but that's how rents are negotiated.

As with all things in the conference, I'm sure our Overlords from FoxSports will have a substantial say (with $$$ and otherwise) concerning whether we stay in the Garden (or not) down the road. I very much doubt the actual crowd in the building matters a bit to them, and if they prefer it in the Garden, there it shall stay...

I attended several Millrose games in the 1960's and it was always a great show at the Garden, which was convenient to us since we came in on the LIRR. But the attendance fell over the years and the Armory has a very nice track and it is less to rent. Cliche time: take the BET tournament one game at a time. Beat DePaul; don't take them for granted; come out with energy. Set the tone right off. GO HOYAS!!!!!
