Doubtful it's anything serious but I do like the emphasis on aggressive high motor kids.. He didn't really get on the floor a ton as a Frosh and when he did he was either fouling (Bad) or rebounding at a high rate (Good)
Doubtful it's anything more than due diligence at this point...

I realized that UNLV was in dire straits and a lot of players had left but had no idea it was down to 2 scholarship players. They need a coach who has a ton of West Coast connection and focus on California and the rest of the west coast players. Use the blueprint that Steve Fisher developed in rebuilding San Diego State and tap into the abundant transfer list every year like Mark Few does at Gonzaga. UNLV is no where near the national brand that they were when Tark was running the show. Smh

Wonder how Beard would feel if UNLV could make him sit out a year before coaching Texas Tech?

Use the blueprint that Steve Fisher developed in rebuilding San Diego State and tap into the abundant transfer list every year like Mark Few does at Gonzaga. UNLV is no where near the national brand that they were when Tark was running the show. Smh Steve Fisher had no real West Coast connection prior to coming to SDSU. What he had was a very low pressure and low expectation environment. Fact is, it took Fisher a long time to build SDSU into a Gonzaga-like nationally relevant program, and he was able to do so because SDSU had been dreadful for years and there was no alumni or local support for the program. The UNLV situation is very different, and they need to figure out (and fast) whether they will go after someone who can rebuild in a Dave Rice style, or whether they are going to be more patient and let a system coach take some time to build something. Either way, they won't give the new coach the kind of patience Fisher got. Beard knew that UNLV was a basketcase when he accepted the job---and must have had some buyers remorse when it set in just how big an undertaking that will be. Obviously UNLV is not at the level of its hey-day, but only a few years ago, when the MW was better than the Pac12, I would have said that the UNLV job was a pretty good one, and certainly more attractive than being in Lubbock. Rumor out here for a while was that UNLV was lining up Rick Pitino, thinking that he would be fired by Lousiville in the wake of the scandal, and that Sin City would not be too concerned about hooker issues. Seems unlikely that will happen, obviously. UNLV fans seem to really want Stacey Augmon to take over--which would follow the St. Johns/Mullin blueprint. Augmon apparently has lobbied hard for the job.

When I said use the Steve Fisher blueprint, I was talking about having the patience to build slowly and focus primarily on West Coast kids instead of the debacle of Dave Rice and his worldwide recruiting map focusing on 5 Star and Top 50 prospects. Like I said, Tark is not on the sidelines anymore and UNLV is no where close to a national brand IMO. I doubt the AD who I have read is on the hot seat will give the job to another former player in Stacy Augmon after how poorly Rice did.

I thought this train left the station long ago. If we still have a shot, we should be in there fighting. Of course, we only have one schollie available and Pryor is said the be a serious possibility. I guess there is no choice but to play this out because no one has committed to that last schollie. And, there is always the outside chance that both commit. Gosh, wouldn't that be a GREAT problem to have!

Guessing he is still keeping us on his list to add some cache to his list. Still a major, even if we have slipped.

Had never heard of this kid before seeing this post but from watching the highlight, this is the type of PG the program needs. He looks to have the explosiveness and creativity to beat players off the dribble and get into the paint for either his shot or to feed a teammate. I don't know if the staff ever recruited this kid or not, but finding someone like this kid would be a huge get for the program and make everyone on the team better. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/3136524/devin-watsonHis #'s are very good.. He's someone worth looking at without doubt.. jeffborzello Jeff Borzello San Francisco transfer Devin Watson is hearing from California, USC, San Diego State, Nevada, Fresno State. 20.3 PPG, first-team all-WCC.
