I don't think this team really needs a true point guard. What they need are confident ball handlers who can bring the ball up against pressure and then once they get into the offense what they need are guys who can see the court, pass, hit both mid-range and deep jumpers and penetrate. That kind of skill set can come from anywhere, not just stereotypical point guard types. They don't need someone running every play and controlling the ball on each possession.

I hear you. That's a fair point, especially in the context of our normal offense. But every team should have a couple lock-down ball handlers who can help secure victories down the stretch in tight games by maintaining possessions, limiting turnovers, and hitting FTs.
You might not need a pure PG for 38 minutes in our offense. But when we're up 2 with 2 minutes to play, inbounding against intense full court pressure, you got to have a couple PG types who you just give the ball to and ask them to win the game by making good decisions. Our Princetown sets don't have a chance to operate in helter skelter end of game situations.
As I look across the roster and our recruits coming in, I think we might lack that type of player. Tre is the only one committed who potentially fits that bill after DSR departs.
If not Class of 2015, I would think pure PG would be a top priority for 2016.

Penn State basketball will host its first skills camp this weekend with plenty of talent on the way to Happy Valley. As the 2015 recruiting class looks to finish up, it could be an important weekend for both the program and the recruits who could make Penn State their collegiate destination. Here is a look at six players scheduled to make an appearance this weekend.
2015 Targets: Josh Reaves 6-4-, 185, SG: Reaves has been a longtime recruiting project for Chambers and his staff with visits and conversations dating back well into 2013. Villanova looks to be Penn State's biggest competition in the race for Reaves' services but Georgetown and VCU have gotten in on the action as well. If Reaves ends up in Happy Valley, it could cap off the best recruiting class under Chambers thus far.

Why are ranking services so down on Reaves: 119th and 120th in the latest Rivals and 247 rankings?

Why are ranking services so down on Reaves: 119th and 120th in the latest Rivals and 247 rankings? Needs to develop skills which he is working very hard to do… Plays more like a 6’4 SF than a 6’4 guard

pennstate.247sports.com/Article/Penn-State-basketball-Advanced-Skills-notebook-29377050Josh Reaves Fresh off a high school switch to national power Oak Hill Academy, Reaves was all over the court at the Penn State camp. The Nittany Lions coaching staff gave the 247Sports Composite No. 93 player a five-star treatment, chatting in his ear at every turn. Playing on assistant coach Dwayne Anderson’s team, Reaves was electric in transition and active on defense. The athletic 6-foot-5 guard is the top target on Penn State’s board for 2015, and he’s high on the Nittany Lions as well.

Perhaps they can recruit syracuse' former big man coach. He should fit right in and I hear the players really like his wife! (P.S. please don't block me if you find this offensive, I behave most of the time!)

Also interesting that this is one of the first tangential signs of Maryland being in the B1G. Probably going to be seeing more of these kind of signings.

Our other issue is that he's more of a tweener between a 2 guard and a small forward....he really didn't fill a need. Now that he's committed elsewhere ...we can speak openly:).

I can see that right now but I won't be surprised when/if his handle & Jumper improves over the next year or two.. To me he was a nice prospect to take a chance on..

Yeah man.. to me he’s an undersized 3 but he’s a hard worker so he could turn the corner… Wish him the best he should do well up there. We need shot creators not glue energy guys. Players that can get buckets themselves and or create easy ones for others

Mostly agree about not being too bummed but I could also see him being the next Oladipo.

Penn State also just sign a home/home with GW. They'll be in the area at least once a year.
