Any discussion of the Syracuse game has to start with an honest discussion, after last night, of where this team is and where it's going. You gotta love this team. Lose three leading scorers from last year and yet are on track to be co-champions of the BE. BUT, we have to be honest. This team, like all hoya teams since our final four appearance, is missing one major ingredient and last night once again displayed it. We need a powerful big man. A guy who can rebound, block shots, DRAW FOULS AND SCORE. In short we need Roy Hibbert. You put Roy on this team, or any of our teams since he left and we are BE champions and possibly final four material. Without him we are very good, maybe even BET champs but probably not better than elite 8 material. With him Syracuse would be toast Saturday. Without him we will bounce back from the Nova game and win but in a close game. I do not think the team needs a Roy Hibbert...if the team still had Henry Simms, who could pass from the high post, rebound and score that would have been a lethal combination with an improved Otto Porter at the SF position

Just a quick note for those who were planning to drop by - the Hoop Club pregame at the Dewar's Club is SOLD OUT. The DC Alumni Club is hosting a game watch at Irish Channel for anyone who didn't get tickets to the game. I'd guess there'd be some folks that go to the Channel to pre-and-post game as well, so for those who weren't able to get tickets to Dewar's, that's an option.

Since Syracuse is absolutely wedded to the Zone, do you think that they are practicing a box and one with the extra man on Otto???

This has to be a joke, right? Obviously every team in the country could use a guy like Henry Sims on their roster. We don;t have him, and we are 13-4 in the conference. Get over yourselves. We can win with the guys we have. We have won with the guys we have. I'd certainly feel more confident this march if we had Henry and Roy on our roster, but I'd also feel better if we had Lebron James starting for us as well. What's your point? We have beaten Cuse and we can beat them again. Let's do this, for God, for conference and for Hoya Nation!

JT5, we desperately need dribble-drive penetration and dishing from in this game. Continuation from Feb. 23. Play defense with your damn feet, NOT your hands. Most tenacious defender on the team. We can't have you sitting 20 minutes this Saturday due to foul trouble.
DSR, I'd say look for your shot because I can't count on my fingers and toes how many times I've yelled at you for passing up an open jumper over the past few weeks, but against Cuse, I see those opportunities for you to be few and far between given their length. Move without the ball, play smart and pick your spots for open jumpers.
Markel, enough with the boneheaded turnovers. You are an incredibly gifted and smart player. Need you to be floor general, hit your open jumpers and mix in a few dribble-drives. You have all the tools, kid. Just keep the turnovers down. Please.
Nate, limit turnovers. You are a great passer but sometimes force the ball. You also get easily flustered at the top of the key when your defender pressures you on the ball. Don't be afraid to take that 6 foot hook shot or back your defender down in the paint. Believe in yourself on offense. You have the skills to succeed. Go up strong this weekend or else Cuse will reject the living 'ish out of you.
Mikael, limit your mistakes. Don't put the ball on the floor and don't try to be the man with the shot clock ticking down. Rebound, play tough interior D and, I repeat, do NOT put the ball on the floor. Limit offensive usage.
Moses, keep doing your thang. And rest of the team, consider dishing to Moses on PnRs because he is butt naked sometimes and can convert bunnies. Give the dude a shot and Moses don't be afraid to put it in the hole if you are butt naked wide open.
Otto, I am scared you are exhausted. You've played SO EFFIN MUCH over the past month or so and at such a high level. You take no plays off on offense or defense and have been truly spectacular. Please get some rest before Saturday. Soak in a hot tub for a while. Please don't be out of gas. We need you at your best over the next 4 weeks.
Get Back On D. Limit Transition Opportunities which are Cuse's bread-and-butter. Beat these aholes. Hoya Saxa.

Really, all we need is an NBA Center. And that's it and that's the only thing we need... We don't need this or this. Just this ashtray. And this paddle game, the ashtray and the paddle game and that's all we need. And this remote control. The ashtray, the paddle game, and the remote control, and that's all we need. And these matches. The ashtray, and these matches, and the remote control and the paddle ball. And this lamp. The ashtray, this paddle game and the remote control and the lamp and that's all we need.

Need Starks to stay in the game MENTALLY!! He is taking a lot of silly fouls which is parking him on the bench. The last four games he has gotten 4 fouls in each game. We are not deep enough in the back court to make up for his loss. This was evident last night. He is also turning the ball over a lot (14 turnovers in last 4 games). He is a the key to this team. With only Porter and DRS (as Tim Brando likes to call him), there are only two potential scorers on the floor. This is where we miss Whittington the most!

Unfortunately it is what it is and we will have to wait until next year for a big man. For now, this team has done a great job of compensating for this deficiency and most impressively on defense where Roy provided so much value. I think III and the players have done a great job reinventing themselves this season. Last night was an abberation in my opinion, it was 8 on 5 combined with poor guard play. Luckily, Cuse has zero inside presence so we should still be able to take care of business on Saturday.

Cuse still haven't figured out how to score against a zone. I expect another low scoring affair, and I have to believe they will do a better job of locating Otto. I thought Nova did a good job running a doubleteam his way last night and I think we'll see a similar thing come Saturday.
Limit the turnovers and long missed jumpers which lead to run outs and I think we got this one.
