Keep working on your game..it will get better. Glad to see u got double digit minutes again. Some people have gave up on, but not me. U have a lot of game to offer to the team. This is his fourth year in the program: He's not getting any better. Yeah, when has anyone ever heard of a guy making a big leap in his fourth year? www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/henry-sims-1.html

This is his fourth year in the program: He's not getting any better. And half of that times he's been unhealthy.....it's not just that he's been here for 4 years. He is still getting better, I don't care what any of you say Kenner was evidence of that. He is the type of player that's game relies on confidence and getting in a rhythm. He has the least responsibility in out backcourt (aside who Domingo who has shown NOTHING other than his youtube videos and fiba performance) so give him a little break

The difference is Henry openly acknowledged he didn't put forth the effort he needed to get better in his first couple years here. It wasn't until year 3 that he decided basketball really mattered to him. It didn't take long into his senior season to realize that Henry was going to be an important player for us that year. Bowen is not going to be an important player for us this year, that much is obvious. At this point it would be a miracle if the light bulb just suddenly came on. Unfortunately, I think it's just burnt out.

It doesn't require you to have any idea how to play defense or how to make proper decisions with and without the basketball on the offensive end. Kenner is heaven for people like Bowen who have tremendous athletic ability and not much else.

Stop trying to over complicate basketball. Our offense is read and react, the loose play in Kenner is read and react, just with different emphasis. Obviously I'm not saying they're identical situations and that one directly correlates to the other, but if you don't see improvement in decision making and overall game then you're blind. It doesn't have to be glaringly obvious but I've played against the whole back court and Aaron is no less talented than most. It's all about getting reps in IIIs system (unless you're a special player) and he gets to decide who's development he wants to focus on. And to the previous poster trying to dispute the Henry comparison. Aaron doesn't have to publicly say he didn't take basketball seriously. We do not live in a vacuum, no one is saying they're gonna have the same exact progression. Rather, what the original poster was trying to point out is that it's never too late for a player to take their game to another level. It just takes longer for the game to slow down for some than it does for others, that doesn't necessarily mean that the latter lacks the same ability and/or potential for production. Because, I don't know if you know it or not, but life is all about timing.

No, I have never played in the Kenner League. I have only watched it. And I've watched a lot of college basketball as well. And based on my observations, I don't see the two as all that similar, especially as far as defensive intensity goes. But again, I've never played. No I don't see improvement in decision making and overall game in Aaron Bowen. Yes, it may only be two games into this season. But if he made such strides in the offseason as you're claiming, then surely some of that improvement would show through in the first two games. And it hasn't, not to me anyway. He's the same old Bowen doing the same old Bowen things.

Glad to see we have identified Aaron as our whipping boy for this season, always good to get that out of the way early. AB has not developed as much as we would like, no question about it. But to suggest he has not gotten any better in 3+ years? Silly. To suggest he will not be at all important this season? Silly. He will not be a star, but he is definitely important. He needs to get control of his game. He needs to stifle the urge to get off shots whenever possible because of limited playing time. And he certainly needs to get better on defense, to focus, to use proper techniques. But with Whit out he is the most athletic wing that we have, and he may be the quickest slasher we have. He has the athleticism to be a successful defender, maybe more so than any other small we have this year. He needs to work his tail off to give us more productive minutes at both ends. For gosh sakes, let's not give up on him on November 14!

For gosh sakes, let's not give up on him on November 14! 3+ years? How many of us actually saw him play the first two years? He played a total of like 80 minutes his first two seasons, albeit due to injury, but even when he was healthy he was largely relegated to cheerleader duty. So I guess in that sense, yes maybe he has improved because now he is actually getting on the floor. But I just don't see anything so far this year that suggests he's improved much in the offseason. Is there a chance he improves over the course of the season? I suppose. But I haven't seen any signs through two games. Surely you would see at least a sign that he made some strides in the offseason. Better shooting mechanics, better defensive technique, improved handle, better decision making...something. But I haven't seen anything yet and I just feel that we're better off allocating his minutes elsewhere.

If Whittington were healthy, Bowen wouldn't be in the regular rotation. But go ahead and tell yourselves that he's gotten better. That being said, he's a Hoya. I would love to be proven wrong

The only thing I've learned this season is that this board has not improved in 3+ years (myself included).
I'm one who has always doubted Bowen. I still doubt him. But I was actually encouraged by what I saw last night. I saw a guy with an improved handle (still not a great handle by any stretch but I no longer cringe when he attempts to dribble) who can drive to the basket on occasion and certainly can help on the glass. And a guy who is starting to get a feel for how to fit it on offense and defense - even though he still does a lot of stupid stuff. I think he has a chance to become a decent contributor this year - would like to see how he progresses over the next couple of weeks before giving up on him. I just don't want to see him taking any outside shots. Drive or pass and crash the glass and take pride in your defense. He can get there.

Attempting to draw meaningful conclusions from Kenner play is almost as bad as attempting to draw conclusions from YouTube highlight videos.

Attempting to draw meaningful conclusions from Kenner play is almost as bad as attempting to draw conclusions from YouTube highlight videos. Sure you can draw conclusions from both, just not about everything! For example, from watching the highlight videos you can see that Reggie has one of the quickest releases and best forms on his shot you will see. How good or bad a player dribbles, how athletic a player is, etc... are other examples. What you cannot conclude from both is how a player plays defense, rebounds, etc...

4pts, 4 rebs, 4 assts...all in the first half...hopefully u can improve on this stat tomorrow. Definitely liked the 2/4 50% FG for the day, as that was one of the higher percentages for the game. Keep on plugging away.

Why does Aaron Bowen have his own thread? He was a bad scholarship offer 5 years ago and has played to that level over his time on the Hilltop. He was a mid-major player at best when we recruited him. It's not his fault. If we really are a high major program (to be debated) we shouldn't be recruiting mid-major talent. That's on the staff. Don't blame the kid.

No shortage of basketball experts around here. Bowen is improving, but apparently not to the satisfaction of some. Not certain why expectations were so high for this kid--he was never touted as the next superstar. He lost one year to injury and rode the bench another year. Last year he received limited minutes. He is not a star and not a starter, but despite some of the venom that he has evoked from many posters, he is improved and contributing. His play has been far more consistent early this year than many on this team, including starters. I view him, like several on this team, as a role player capable of contributing significant minutes, but not expected to carry the team. He is the exact type of player that every high major program recruits to support the more heralded players.
