Aaron deserves a thread. Where did this guy come from? He got good overnight!

Definitely Sportscenter Top 10 worthy play by Bowen tonight. He needs more minutes, IMO.

He got playing time overnight. We recruited him. That seems to tell me he was probably always good.

He's made strides since getting time. He's sagging off of his man on D just a little more than he was early on which is helping him keep his guy in front of him. He's also dropped the hand checking and has gotten much better at fighting over picks as opposed to dropping under. I'm dying to see him pull an Iverson... flying down the lane for a putback dunk. His putback today was ridiculous. I must have rewound it 10 times. He still gets a little lost on D at times but his improvement from game to game is glaring. He's one of the guys that obviously has a lot of teammates cheering for him. Tyler especially. Keep up the hard work Aaron. It's paying off!

We beat a Top 5 team and Aaron Bowen scored the game-winning basket. Ponder that for a moment.
The athletic stuff is fun but the incremental improvements in his defense are more encouraging. If we're being fair, he is after all only a week removed from a pretty shocking defensive performance against USF. That being said, it's good to see Aaron and DSR improving on that end of the court. Really stepping up in Greg's absence.

He is one of the most athletic people in the world, so it's not too surprising.
Really happy for AB. His emergence as an actual option is the silver lining of Greg's suspension.

And from that picture, you can't even tell his ridiculous hang time. That was an absolutely unbelievable play.

I love everyone's reaction in this photo. Look at the people on the bench and Chane Behanan.

Thanks for posting that, I've been looking for a good highlight all day and night. Haha. I've been singing AB's praises for a while, although I think he still needs a bit more time but he just seems like one of those guys that senior year, announcers would discuss as a key to the game. I've maintained that (AND I AM NOT COMPARING THEIR GAMES AT ALL AB's NOT EVEN CLOSE) AB has a gait like MJ. Yes, that MJ.

He really came flying in from the wing. That was beautiful. From the front page: Quote:Bowen's tip-in was bigger than anyone knew at the time, in that it was the last basket scored by either team the remainder of the game. The 6-6 junior, who entered the game with just 49 points in his career before Saturday's game, told Coach Thompson he could make the basket.
"Literally, the dead ball before his basket, he says I'm going to get one coach, I'm going to get one, and then he goes out and does it," Thompson remarked. "That's pretty good. "I like him even better after that!

The best part of the conversation is not that Aaron said that he'd get "one" and then he got it, it's that he's referring to an offensive rebound and that was his focus. It'd be cool if he was referring to a dunk or a three, but an offensive rebound tip-in? Love that.

He is one of the most athletic people in the world, so it's not too surprising. Really happy for AB. His emergence as an actual option is the silver lining of Greg's suspension. But that begs the question, again, why doesn't III use more of his players and trust the guys he recruits? Because your point suggests, and accurately I believe, that Bowen may have gotten only a few minutes of playing time the last few weeks if Greg had been playing. Obviously we all make predictions that end up being dead wrong. So far my enthusiasm for Hopkins at center hasn't translated into my expected results on the court. Not so far at least. But I've been one of those who have been waiting for and hoping for more playing time for Bowen since the beginning of last season. I don't care about numbers and who happen to be ahead of him. It is a waste of a scholarship IMO when a player never gets on the court for meaningful games. At the very least give a player a chance. If he works out, that's great; if he doesn't well at least now you know. And NOW we know. The guy is a player. Great length, great athleticism, great explosion. And his three-point shot looks as if it could be deadly down the road. This guy has been sitting on the bench all this time? I suppose he must have not been doing much during practice....which just tells you how unreliable practice performances can be at predicting in-game effectiveness. I have mentioned probably a half-dozen times before that it is no surprise that Marquette successfully recruited Bowen (he got out of the scholarship after a coaching change). Bowen is the type of athletic perimeter performer that Marquette routinely turns into NBA players. Unfortunately I still believe that Marquette would be a better fit for Bowen. I will give III his due. He is great at half-court defenses, he does stress sharing the ball, his in-season coaching always lead to teams having successful regular seasons (particularly November through January), his teams tend to exceed pre-season expectations, and in regards to his program he runs a tight ship. But his weaknesses are still glaring too one of which happens to be putting out an offense that is a legitimate threat to score during enough offensive possessions. On this I stand side-by-side in agreement with RDF....hell, I've probably been in front of him. However I'm not interested in starting more blood-thirsty debates regarding that subject on these boards. What I will argue though is that III doesn't seem to know what to do with really athletic perimeter players especially if they are not a threat from the three-point line. His system doesn't highlight their strengths nor does his coaching tend to lead to their development of their one-on-one skills (yeah, I know many of you basketball purists hate the idea of one-on-one but .... ). Bowen at least has a workable three-point jumper to take with him out on the court. I only hope he improves enough that he can start taking the ball to the basket off the dribble. Thankfully he has gotten past the biggest hurdle : no playing time.

If people can't see how much improved Bowen's defense is even from earlier this year. I don't know what to tell you. That is why bowen was not getting more playing time IMO. He was not good on the defensive end even when he got non garbage time minutes. He has adjusted his defense and I think it would have yielded more minutes even with out Greg's absence.
