WVU v Pitt tonight. Traitors' game. Lesser of two evils is Pitt losing, having 10+ losses and making it impossible for the NCAA Selection Com. to invite Dixon et al.

Yeah and I want as many BE teams to make the NCAAs as possible even if it is WV. Pitt has no shot, but WV still does.

I actually dont like that a lot of BE teams make the tourney. 7-8 should be about right. The more teams in clog the system and f'up seedings and matchups. I dont see that as a big factor for our reputation. It cuts a lot of ways because 11 teams in means more scrutiny on justifying those bids. Plus, yeah, we definitely dont want the traitor schools in because that's argument for those bids to go elsewhere next year. Nothing would make me happier than Pitt and WVU not getting into the tourney this year.

When the Hoyas played USF, I thought USF was awful and wondered how they had won any BE games. Still wonder.

At what BE conf record can USF force the NCAA committee's hand and give them a tournament berth? Has 11-7 ever been denied? 12-6? Truth be told they could end up 9-9 because they have a brutal final stretch. Judging by the way they played against us, they should really lose all 5 of their remaining games. Even their home games are against desperate teams - like Cincy and WVU. But, I hear you, even if they go 10-8, they finish in the top 6-7, right? Which means, they also have a winnable first round BET game. I dont see an 11-9 BE team not making the tourney. The BE is down this year, but who is going to take their spot, Alabama? USF's conference record, and where it finishs in the BE standings, are not something that the selection committee looks at, which seems stupid to me. If you're looking at the merit of a team, I think you have to look at where they finished in their conference, and how tough of a conference it was.

USF's problem will lie in the fact that they really don't have any very good wins. They have built their record by crushing the lower-tier teams in the Big East (which this year, is larger than in past years), but losing to the better teams.
Look at their 9 wins: Villanova (twice), Rutgers, DePaul, St. John's, Providence (twice), Pittsburgh, and Seton Hall. Eight of USF's nine wins have come against the six worst teams in the Big East. USF does have a tough schedule remaining, so I am not sure they'll get many more wins.
That said, one could envision a scenario where you could easily make a stronger case for a 9-9 West Virginia making the tournament versus a 10-8 USF.

This, unless in a particular game they happen to be playing an opponent whose losing would work to our benefit. I, too, hope they miss the tournament.

I just use that as a way to give context. It's very likely they could end up in 6-7th place and not make the tourney.

wow Duke is getting blown out by NC state at home.
Seems like Cameron is no longer that intimidating to play in. Maybe the refs have stopped cheating for them?
Miami, Florida St, and now NC state now have gone in and beaten Duke at home.

yeah early on in the 2nd half the refs were calling everything cause the game was getting really physical...the problem is NCst goes 8 deep Duke can go 10-11 deep. and all of NCSt's big guys have foul issues.

Classic talented player goes to hometown school/not great program. Leslie hasn't learned how to play the game. Wish Devonta takes notes.
Unreal choke job by state. Wow
