This tweet from Roy to Greg on Jan 26 says it all: Hoya2aPacer Roy Hibbert @ @greghoya2 u know this summer u gotta hit the weights hard n eat breakfast. Two things that helped me between my freshman year n soph year.Roy may be the best thing to happen to Georgetown basketball in a long time. Having a guy like him talking to players like this while at the same time building his name at the NBA level is awesome. Obviously a great guy. And I expect Greg to make a huge leap next year. Right now, he's rarely if ever one of our top 3 scoring options on the floor. But when he is, and after a year of work, the dude will be dangerous. I'm not sure any ex-player loves Georgetown as much as Roy does. He's a huge asset.

He looks so good on those three's that hit nothing but net. BTW, he was nearly 3-5 from deep, but he must have had one foot on the line because he hit another very long two as well. If he can start doing that consistently, it just make GU that much tougher to defend... opens up things for everyone. I like his Hoya future, but I'd be even happier if that future is now!

Todays performance is a long time coming but it makes me think of the shots he passed up against SUcks...I was especially proud that he used a dribble drive pull up twice...when he elevates for it the guards can't disrupt his shot id like to see him do it more against the zone in fact the whole team do it.

Is it crazy to suggest Whittington might have the highest ceiling of any of our freshmen?

Hoping the ceiling is glass and the frosh class is Willy Wonka's elevator!

Is it crazy to suggest Whittington might have the highest ceiling of any of our freshmen? No, because since the summer some have been suggesting that may be the case.

Otto and Greg have the potential to be a very unique and complementary 1-2 punch from the wings. They both have great upside, and bring different skill sets to the game. Very exciting. If we could land a dominant big man down low, Whit and Otto will absolutely thrive.
With a game like this from Whit, the recruitment of Pollard seems a bit less critical. The recruitment of Noel, if successful, could jump us into national title discussion.

HP's numbers for net +/- averaged over a full game are second highest for Greg, only a fraction of a point behind Otto. Obviously, that is not a perfect measure of a player's impact, but nevertheless advanced metrics suggest he is already very, very valuable to this team even without putting up big scoring numbers which I expect will come in time.

Noel is quoted as saying " I love the offense". Doesn't mean he's coming, but it defeats the other coaches saying negative things about the offense. Noel has seen it and knows he'd thrive in the high post.

Yep - when Greg was hitting a ton of shots at Kenner he looked like the most dangerous threat on offense. The fact that he's reinvented himself as a defensive stopper when his shot hasn't fallen says a lot about his basketball maturity. If his performance today gives him more confidence in his offense the rest of the way we're going to be a nightmare for other teams. Even a modest improvement on offense from the group of Otto/Greg/Jabril/Nate will give us a great team next year.

The ceiling is high for him and for Porter. Porter has a higher BB IQ right now but both guys have a lot of potential. I've been texting one of my undergrad roommates all season in-game about "wait until Whitt starts hitting jumpers" and he was texting me like crazy today. You can see Greg developing that confidence and adjusting to the speed of the college game. Man that's fun to see as a fan. Great performance from him today. I hope it's just a starting point for him. He's clearly got the skills. Just needs the confidence and to develop some consistency. He can be an offensive threat and a defensive killer. Check the recruiting boards all you want but the staff deserves big time credit for the group they brought in this year. Love this team.

I agree tash. Not only for the numbers they brought in, which were necessary, but for the quality of person/player that all these guys are. Very unselfish and pull for one another.

With all of this being said, the team is doing this with two players that had been counted on to contribute not playing in 95 per cent of the games ( Tyler and Moses). Remember that Tyler was ranked higher than Hopkins, Whittington, Trawick or Otto. He was recruited by the mighty Duke. It's a shame that JT3 will again lose the BE coach of the year to Brey or Mr. Magoo.

Nonetheless, if Tyler can be as good as what Hopkins looks like he may be, then we're in good shape. (I actually think he could be better) And then you add Moses...

Going back and looking at this year's class:
Jabril - 6'5" Otto - 6'8" Greg - 6'8" Mikael - 6'9" Tyler - 6'9"
That's a pretty beastly starting five.

Going back and looking at this year's class: Jabril - 6'5" Otto - 6'8" Greg - 6'8" Mikael - 6'9" Tyler - 6'9" That's a pretty beastly starting five. Actually they each might be slightly taller. Jabril said he's still growing and im pretty sure (correct me if im wrong) but a few months ago he tweeted that he had grown closer to 6'6". The next four all seem to be withing a half-inch to an inch of each other. And Hollis measured in at 6'7".5 w/o shoes in Chicago pre-draft cam8p last year. That means that with shoes on he is easily above 6'8". To me, Otto, Greg, Mikael, and Tyler all appear to be taller than him. So i'd put my money on them each being at least 6'9" in shoes. That is HUGE. More length than the majority of NBA rosters when we go Jabril, Hollis, Greg, Otto, Henry (which we have). That just speaks to how awesome our class is and how lucky we are to have it. Honestly, we have the best 5 man class in the country outside of Kentucky. WHat makes this class so special is that we have immense size at each position and although everyone but Jabril is pretty much the same height, they each have different skillsets (different positions). Throw in that they LOVE to compete and defend we really may have (one of) the most special classes in GU history. Only time will tell and these kids just need to keep putting in hard work and all will fall in place. The lockout, along with our trips to China and Hawaii, came at the perfect time. A critical developmental period for high schoolers making the transition to college athletics was filled with a wealth of resources from which they could quickly get better, and thats exactly what they did. They took advantage of the help offered by several prominent alumni and other current pros and took it to heart. They leave it all on the court and are all hard working. Just look at the Fresh Five and tell me its not crazy that Greg wasn't even in the top 200 in the nation. Each player, IMO, has the opportunity to be the best in this class by the time they leave the hilltop (Tyler, based on his ranking mostly and his 8pt 3rb performance earlier in the year, since we havent gotten to see much of him). By that I mean that they are all very good basketball players with much room for growth in the next four years . I know Otto is playing really well right now and is "the best frosh" but I still think that him, Bril, Greg, and Hop are all really good and very close to each other in value (or will be). I mean, c'mon, we've had six different players lead the team in scoring this year. 6!!!!! thats a lot of versatility. That speaks to the depth of this class and the GREAT job by JT3 and the staff.

I had to double check your measurements, as I thought Hollis looked closer to 6'7" with shoes. The DraftExpress numbers put him at 6'6.5" w/o shoes and 6'8.5" with shoes. That's taller than I thought - and it does look like Otto and Greg have at least an inch on him so those are some tall dudes and probably should be listed at 6'9" (and hopefully still growing). www.draftexpress.com/profile/Hollis-Thompson-5823/

I'm amazed at what III has done with this youth. A few missed Hop bunnies and no calls by the refs and Hoyas would have 20 wins in a "rebuilding", "10th in the BE", lower expectations year. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect. The addition of O and the re-immergence of Broadus cannot be overstated.
I hope they all stay aggressive, humble and hungry.
