His defense down the stretch was key to this victory. It won't show up on any stat sheet but my hat is off to that young man on Johnson-Odom in the second half. Great Job Greg!!!!

his ability at his size on the defensive end is special. His body control is terrific, his Bball IQ on that end is awesome. Just great, great job AGAIN by Greg late.

Yep, defense won that game and Whittington was the key. I'll add Clark and Sims taking over on the offensive end, as well. Awesome.

Yes--Greg was a HUGE part of that win. How many guys his size could shut down a guy like Johnson-Odom? WOW--still shaking from that win!

This may be the second glass of 30 year old Glenfiddich talking, but I am ready to elevate Greg into the exclusive pantheon of superlative Hoya defenders. The big six have been Patrick, Zo, Dikembe, Gene Smith, David Wingate and A.I.. I think the club has a seventh member.

i take extreme pleasure in seeing Greg or Jabril marking up with their #1 outside scorer. what greg did tonight, picking which screens to go under and which to go over, getting to the gaps before the offensive player and keeping himself clean in the middle of wild reffing, well that was awesome. will be great when he gets his green light offensively, but for now i will take winning defense everyday

Great display by Greg tonight. Really the single most important contribution made outside of JC's offensive output to get the Hoyas going.

I always run straight to the stat sheet just to check on things and look if I have not noticed something, and Nate and Greg have identical stat lines, with Greg having only an additional steal. Unfortunate that the box score can't show his impact on the game, he played amazing.

Allen, you did a phenomenal job detailing Greg's defense on your blog, and it was on full display tonight. He's able to go over screens and recover so quickly, which is so important against a shooter like DJO. But he's also able to close out hard without getting into trouble (at least when Crowder isn't diving). DJO was looking for the foul on every one of Greg's closeouts, but couldn't do it. This was a superlative defensive performance by Greg, and I really do think he won us the game. The awesome thing is that Jabril is an absurd defender too. He made some mistakes with a tricky guard like DJO, but did a really good job on Mayo and the others. Those two are going to make life miserable for a host of Big East guards over the next three years.

JTIII out coached Buzz in this one. Smart move putting Whittington on Odom Agree with this on many levels. Thought it was a huge mistake when Buzz decided to hold the ball and play for a 3 pointer with 17 seconds left in the game.....especially given that GW was playing perimeter shooters. G-Dub......well done my brotha!!!

Also, people have been comparing this to the UConn game where Austin took over. To me, it's more similar to the Cuse game where Rivers won it by locking up Johnny Flynn down the stretch. Greg locked up DJO down the stretch in just the same way. Except, I have faith that Greg will be able to shoot in the future.

hollis played great d on johnson-odom that last possession. having jason and 4 guys 6'8" and over defensively gives teams fits on the perimeter.
