This does not mean it is true or that it is going to happen - but if correct this would be beyond TERRIBLE for us and the BE. I have always had the gnawing feeling that we would end up where we came from because the people at Georgetown have no vision!!!

Hopefully it doesn't happen--will be interesting but potentially painful to watch-obviously this could prompt ND to move-unless a power conf is willing to take us as a non football member, it looks like were pretty much relegated to a second division. Not very confident re: our admin's ability to successfully navigate this scenario successfully.

We are currently a huge conference. Sure, these two departures would be terrible because they're two of the consistent powerhouse teams. But what makes us think the whole conference will dissolve over this? And with us, UConn, Nova, Marquette, ND, Louisville, and hopefully resurgent Cinci and SJU teams, that's not a bad league.

BE needs to have or perhaps still can up the fee for leaving the conference ours is 5 million ACC's is 30 million. BE needs to impose something like a 50 million buy out.
The ridiculous thing is that in a couple years the BE could be better positioned than the ACC, but now we'll probably never know. If they just had faith they could get everything they want from the BE.

A few days ago, Boeheim said something I 110% agreed with and that made me feel dirty. And now I know why he said it publicly: "The ideal conference has 10 teams in the same geographic area where you play everyone twice. We're going as far away from that as we can. Why? To make money".
As much as I despise Syracuse, I don't blame them or Pitt for leaving. It was a great conference with Georgetown, UCONN, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, Syracuse, Villanova, Pitt, Rutgers and WVU, all schools IN the east. Then you add Notre Dame in 1995, ok, a little odd as they're in the midwest, but 12 is still ok. Then for no reason whatsoever in 2005, you add Cincy, Depaul, Louisville, Marquette, South Florida, bloating the conference with teams that aren't in the same geographic location, and to top things off, you add TCU. Things have gotten completely ridiculous, and the Big East administration only has itself to blame.

Teams have to give 27 months notice before leaving so that means we'll have two years of lame duck status for these turncloaks? Ugh... what an awful prospect that is.
Even worse is the idea of a conference that houses both Maryland and Syracuse at the same time... how could college basketball survive such a concentration of evil?

If this happens, Rutgers and West Virginia wouldn't be far behind. I think they both see the Big East becoming like the Big 12 and instead of dealing with a conference in survival mode, they're trying to get out now, which I don't blame them for doing.
For us, this blows of course and it will be interesting to see what the university does to make sure we're still players when the smoke clears.
However, we may need to begin thinking about our positioning in a new basketball only conference. Us, 'Nova, St. John's, DePaul, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, Xavier, Temple, Butler and some mix of GMU, VCU, ODU, Richmond, etc ... wouldn't be too shabby.

This is it, our time in a bcs conference is over. Only move left is to quickly pUt together the best non football conference we can. Glorified a10? You bet your ass. It's that or just regular a10. It's over.

don't even want to think about what impact this might have on recruiting.

I agree this won't stop with those 2. With Syracuse and Pit leaving there's no reason for anyone to stick around in the BE. Wouldn't be surprised if Uconn and Rutgers(or WV) joined the ACC as well.
We're seriously boned.

Things have gotten completely ridiculous, and the Big East administration only has itself to blame. This isn't exactly fair or true. Remember that part where Miami, BC, and VT left the BE? You can argue whether adding 4 midwest teams + USF was the right move, but it wasn't "for no good reason whatsoever"

There is no reason for us to even consider staying in a conference w any IA football schools. We must get away from that kryptonite forever. Even if a school isn't currently attractive to any bcs conference, that's all they will be looking to do. Let's get away from all football schools forever.
