That's it! I am boycotting IA/BCS football. I would rather watch now the World Rugby championships. Plus I can see a haka or two before the game.
I thought a couple of years ago, cuse was making a big stink about staying put.
Why does football have to rule? At UNLV it is costing more than it is worth. Have you seen UNLV play lately? And this is the Mtn West, which Boise State just joined. But their bball team will survive, because it is the Running Rebels. And Georgetown is the HOYAS!

I think that immediately replacing Cuse and Pitt with Memphis and Temple/VCU would send a nice message that we're not going anywhere and that Big East basketball will survive. But has anyone laid the groundwork for such pickups?

Just lovely to see BC lose to Duke today. A small piece of karma. 0-3.

The thought of Carolina and Duke playing OUR Syracuse and Pitt make me want to wrap it up for good!

Playing in the NIT Catholic League is a one way trip to Georgetown becoming the next Fordham or Holy Cross.[/quote]
That is the truth

The impact on recruiting cannot be understated. Top recruits will salivate at the prospect of either playing for or against Carolina, Duke, Pitt and Syracuse. This moves clearly strengthens basketball ACC which only goes 2 deep with Carolina and Duke. If Conn. and WVa leave the impact is even greater. We would then turn into a team that focuses on 'niche' recruiting. Somehow ADMG.

I know its of secondary importance but this move obviously substantially degrades the BIG EAST's fledgling's lacrosse effort.
It kind of amazes me how reactive the Big East is.

Yeah ACC just became a basketball giant. Imagine if they get Uconn too.
On the plus side if the football schools all leave and we end up in the Bball only conference still called the BE we'll be the best team in the big east with the most Big East Titles and Big East Tournament Titles. So at least we'll be the big fish in the small pond.
And I knew the satalite campus thing was not realistic as yes they're looking for an office building not a true campus somewhere.
I do think we could sell out a 10,000 seat off campus basketball facility that was metro accessible. But with the economy that's a pipe dream.
Maybe we can make a deal with the neighbors that we'll house all the students on campus if they let us build an 8,000 or so seat stadium on campus. again another pipe dream.
Ok solution time people everyone needs to start playing the lottery quickly a couple billion dollars and all are problems will disappear.

Would have to think that this uncertainty-potential degradation of the BE would also cast a very negative light on big ticket fundraising for something like the bball practice facility. Any big donor is going to question what the future is for big time bball at gtwn

For what it's worth, Boeheim was clearly against the move:
"Whatever happens, we'll have to adjust to it," Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim told CBSSports.com by phone on Saturday. "I'm not commenting on Syracuse to the ACC, but in general I'm saying that I don't see how it's a good thing to have all these huge conferences. But I may be wrong. That's my opinion -- and I'm old. ... [But] some day we'll get to 16-team leagues and everybody may look back on it and say it wasn't such a great idea."

I don't care whether there's some kind of remnant conference with the name "Big East" on it, it isn't going to have the teams to fill MSG and it isn't going to interest ESPN. That means it will be the Atlantic 10. I wouldn't be surprised if five minutes after the ACC locks down Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and some other programs ESPN has them eyeing MSG for the ACC tournament. Why not?
This marks the end of any chance of Gtown being a perennial hoops power. Sad to say but we have to hitch our wagon to programs in better financial shape like Marquette and pray that the commitment of those schools is enough to push the Hoyas to try to stay competitive.
Otherwise, what about going Patriot League for all non-hoops sports and going independent in hoops--sign a deal with ESPN to broadcast most of our games and play everybody around the country?
Sad day for Hoya hoops.

It is silly, by the way, to get upset with Pitt and Syracuse. They're doing exactly what they should be doing--being proactive in a world of certainty to do what's in their best interests.

I mean football is already sort of separate from the NCAA. Can't we just completed sever football and keep the normal conferences in basketball and everything else.

It was a smart move, the money is in football, and the BE wasn't going to keep it's BCS status when the big boys make their next deaal. The Georgetown Basketball team might be the face of the University, but it's not a big money maker. Publicly, I don't see the big money alumns giving recently in support of anything athletic, sorry day for a great sports tradition.

Bunch of wussy chicken littles around here. Sure, it sucks to lose big time rivals, but Georgetown can and will remain a viable basketball power without Pitt or Syracuse or whomever. There are good programs that attract recruits and are not affiliated with football power conferences. Who knows what will happen to Lousiville, West Virinia, UConn and other schools with football, but I can't see why a conference with GU, Notre Dame, Marquette, Villanova, SJU, et al. can't thrive. Possibly add in a school or two like Xavier, even.
That is good basketball that will draw ratings and should be able to attract some decent TV packages. Go ahead and deny that if you want, but I don't buy the doomsday scenario.

Good riddance, especially to Syracuse. Thank goodness Hoya fans will no longer have to deal with the greasy gold-chained scum fanbase from the "Jersey Shore" of upstate NY.
