The rules state D I athletes must complete a year in residence at their new school before being able to play at their new school. I have been told this does apply to Ivy league players.

I thought those transfer rules only applied to scholarship athletes in FB and BB. As the Ivy league kids are not on ships I wonder if they are covered by transfer rules unless they signed some version of an LOI with that clause when they committed to the Ivy League school. ?

With all this talk about Max, I can't escape the feeling that his playing with the five freshmen at Georgetown University during the summer and his rumored transfer are somewhere related.

I dont see any correlation. I have a feeling Ed is right. Not to get too tinfoil hat-ey but I imagine there was interest on one side or another in Max becoming a Hoya after Vee decided to leave. A plausible reason for him playing with Tombs this summer could be that it was his unofficial tryout for the team.

Or that it was already decided that he'd be transferring to Georgetown, and just not made public. Therefore while most people thought Tombs represented 5 players who would be joining the team next year, it was actually 6. It does seem a little suspicious that Tombs made this great run with "5 Hoyas + Max Kenyi". Maybe it was just 6 Hoyas. Information disseminates from the program at a glacial pace, so it's plausible to me. Not concrete proof of anything of course.

I mean that explanation is the first thing that came to mind for me when I heard the rumor.

The fact that he can't elaborate suggests to me that it is in fact happening, but the loose ends have not yet been tied up. If he wasn't coming, I think he would have said flat-out "no, thats not happening".

Cryptic. But it certainly sounds like he'll be a Hoya at some point, in some capacity. Lots of smoke, probably some fire.

Sounds like this is definitely happening. Not only would this give us another defensive option, it should motivate the other guards to work that much harder on their defense, which is always a good thing. Of course adding yet another new body to the mix could be evn more chaotic, but we were already going to be a huge work in progress.

I wonder if whatever was behind his "voluntary leave of absence" from Harvard could be the basis for his being able to play immediately, a la JV.

I wonder if whatever was behind his "voluntary leave of absence" from Harvard could be the basis for his being able to play immediately, a la JV. Interesting thought. To take off on it, I wonder if the official announcement could be pending official confirmation of the waiver by the NCAA. In other words, the staff may have told him that if he is granted the waiver he is welcome to come to Georgetown for the next 2 years (2011-12 and 2012-13). However if he is not granted the waiver and would be on scholarship for 3 years (add 2013-2014 to the above) then they don't quite have room for him. This would make sense to me--as I said earlier in the thread, if he is only taking a scholarship for the next 2 years, it's a no-brainer because it's unlikely we'd want a 4 man class in 2012 and we're almost definitely going to have 3 other 'ships available. However if he was going to be on scholarship for 3 years instead of 2 it's a lot tougher to stomach, because that would mean one less 'ship available for the 2013 class as well--a class where guys like Noel, Williams, Meeks, et. al are interested in Georgetown and where we don't currently have any graduating seniors to free up scholarships (read: potential scholarship crunch that year).

I'm officially welcoming him to the team after reading Tony Parker's link (great find btw). If that isn't a Georgetown type of answer, what is?

Sounds like the kid plays with fire, especially on defense. I'm all for competition, and if you can play good defense, you can play right away in my opinion. Maybe the kid won't even see more than 2 minutes on the floor, but I am not displeased one bit that he is a Hoya.
